Z car NooB
Welcome to the Z world. Learning curve won't be too bad. The Z's are remarkably uncomplicated (why we love them). Mind you, old VW's aren't that complicated either. Tons of info on the board. Use the search function and you will find almost all of the answers you need. If not ask and you will be amazed at the speed and quality of response. There are even a few FI experts on the board... Welcome!

Rims
Try calling a local performance shop or possibly a big wrecking yard. They will know someone.

Rims
Take it to them and they will tell you if they can fix it. These very commonly show up on the board or on craigslist. If need be you can find a replacement to match.

Rims
Your's are commonly referred to as slotted mags. These were aftermarket by a few different suppliers. I much prefer them to the ZX rims. As long as there are only scratches and not massive curb rash, you should be able to polish them nicely. Ideally, take them to a shop that polishes wheels for a living, you will be amazed at what they can do. Also, keep an eye on the web. You never know what you'll find. I got vintage Japanese racing wheels with new rubber for $400...the deals are out there... Cheers,

Rims
Standard wheels for a 280zx (1979-83). The $100 price is very good as long as they can resurrected. Not bad on a 240Z, but in my opinion you can do better (they look a little out of place).

Down for the count
Oh dude. That's rough. I severely messed up my back over the holidays trying to get our old horse back up after a fall on the ice (unfortunately we lost him that day...rough one). Needed to see a chiropractor for the back and still had some residual nerve issues with my shoulder (actually brachial plexus neuritis) that I needed an osteopath to fix that up. While I wouldn't necessarily suggest the chiropractor (some scary stuff there when they start cracking your spine) but I would absolutely recommend you see an osteopath. I had been in serious chronic pain for about three weeks it only took one treatment to fix me up (interestingly enough working on the opposite side of the pain). Simply amazing. Good luck and get well.

If you did not have your Z....
When I bought my first Z, I was hunting for an early 911 project car as well, so I guess it would be a that. Upgrade might be a Type E. Other ones of interest from time to time are early 70's Celica and 90's Supra TT.

whate is the value of these cars
Welcome to the world of Z's... Very little money in restoring as there are simply too many passable examples with "mild" rust out there. The value of any Z is totally dependant on 1) body (no rust); 2) interior; 3) mechanical... Mechanical is #3 as they are reasonably easy to fix and parts are plentiful (not so with bodies and interiors). You a 280Z hood on the car (happens from time to time). The pink interior most likely detracts from the value (unless Miss Piggy is in the market for a Z)... Other than that need more info on condition and upgrades if present.

Need help from my Canadian bretheren (longer post)
The key Datsun shop in Toronto is Whitehead Performance (416-665-2220; ask for Greg or Mike). You could also try www.new-datsun-parts.com (I think they're in Vancouver). Good luck.

Got a bet here
A couple of aternative thoughts... 1. Take a part-time job as a hand on a local horse farm. When we moved onto the farm my wife lost 20 lbs (and I thought she was hot to begin with) in the first 2 months shovelling manure, etc. And that was looking after only 2 horses. Make a few extra bucks for Z projects as a benefit. 2. Bear with me on this one. Comes from my borther who is a pro athlete... Bust up your shoulder or knee so you require arthroscopic surgery. Make sure you are prescribed Demerol as a pain killer. As well as a decent buzz it makes for a great appetite suppressant. My brother lost 20 lbs in 5 weeks on the stuff. All kidding aside, be healthy. No bet is worth your life.

Saturday Plans For the Amelia Island Weekend.
Oh I know, but I'd have to get one of the Z's by 3 ft snow banks still... Instead my weekend will be a drive down to Toronto (first good highway trip with the C230 Sport Sedan), hit the Flames/Leaf morning skate Saturday a.m. and then to watch my little brother play (go Flames go)... So don't shed too many tears... Congrats Carl...soak it in...your commitment has earned it...someday I'll pop in to see the car in person...

Price per Pound Contest
How much do D hubcaps weigh? (2lbs per sounds about right). The appreciation/cost parameters are in the ballpark... If they weigh less than subsequent caps, you would be reducing your unsprung weight which would improve performance (however marginally)... Fact that they aren't already installed could just be a preservation choice...
