New tires for my 260
FWIW. I went from stock tires on Western Wheel Mags to BFG 225/60-14's on vintage Chowini Racing rims and the performance difference was immense (original tires were quite old mind you). The car corners like its on a rail now.

Driving music
I suggest listening to Internet Radio Stations from offshore to get better variety (I like one call Zeilsteen). That's where a lot of the obscure stuff comes from and commercial radio just plays various versions of genre specific Top 40. Also try college radio, some neat stuff there (some downright bad stuff too). Oh, and is doesn't hurt I'm a music nut (some of the bands mentioned I've tracked down from a 10 second clip in a TV ad).

Minneapolis....
I was there yesterday...landed just after the collapse and my driver detoured around it (just though it was some garden variety accident). Flew back in the early afternoon and didn't realize the scope of it until I got home. Simply horrible. We had an overpass go down in Montreal last year and 5 people perished. Our thougths are with you...

Nissan says: what's a 280z?
Yeah, that makes sense. S30's and S130's (even Z31's for that matter) are rarer than hen's teeth up here in the snow/salted road tundra... We do have a few good dealership guys though. Willowdale Nissan and Brantford Nissan are both active in helping find parts when necessary and their pricing isn't egregious. The goods guys are out there...somewhere...

Country Music
Saw Son Volt at a tiny club in Cleveland. Must have '99 or '00 or so...A buddy took me. Didn't know who they were before but man what a show... Other than that, I like to play "Convoy" by Paul Brandt when we all get together to go to car shows... That's about it for country...

MAJOR wire issues...new harness? 260z
If the body is truly very good, $1,000 is a fine price. Key places to check are the bottom of the doors, under the battery tray, the rear deck under the hatch, the doglegs and the floors. Check them thoroughly. If they are solid it's a good deal, electrical on these cars is not super-complicated and can be addressed. Good luck.

Nissan says: what's a 280z?
Same experience here. Was out in my Z31 to test drive some vehicles. Pulled into the Nissan dealership, parked it right out front and nothing...not a sniff. Pulled into the Mazda dealership down the road and I had 2 sales guys drooling all over my vehicle. Got total respect and actually made me want to deal with those guys so much more...

Factory Restored 240Z's
If you are thinking of purchasing on Ebay, be careful. There are numerous tales of Ebay transactions that didn't quite measure up to expectations (in particular with regard to rust issues, so important as Carl mentioned). Often this is not outright fraudulent behaviour, but sellers who simply don't know the vehicles very well and think they look o.k. Have someone who is local and knows Z's inspect the car for you. Post your request here and you will likely find a volunteer or someone can direct to a local Z shop that can evaluate the car for you. Best of luck! While you may enjoy the top down, 2nd gear in a Z is pure heaven... Cheers,

Watch my Z video!!!
I'm with the girlie name crew. If the '73 Mach I Mustang in Gone in 60 Seconds and the modded '67 Mustang Fastback in Gone in 60 Seconds II qualified for the name Eleanor, I'm not sure how a 240Z gets significantly more "butch" than they are...:cross-eye Once I beef up the engine performance in my 240Z somewhat I might call it a nice, androgynous "Sneaky Z"...:cheeky: My Z31 which will likely remain stock will be its younger sibling "Sleepy Z"...

3.5 Altima
Pricing differential can be attributed to a number of things: 1. Import duties. The import duty on a non-free trade vehicle is 6.1% in Canada. In the US it is 2.5%. That will equate to roughly $1,000 in difference. 2. Currency translation. While the Canadian dollar is currently approaching parity, this is a recent occurence that hasn't been the case for approximately 30 years. Canadian market pricing was established when the dollar was less favourable and while I don't like it, if I was a car manufacturer, I wouldn't be in a hurry to adjust pricing (either you are giving away free profit and/or what if the currency swings the other way). It should be noted that the recent strength of the Canadian currency is somewhat over-estimated. The actual fact is that the US dollar is plummeting versus world currencies. (Rough fiscal policy to elect a "conservative" who runs deficits like Armageddon is around the corner). 3. Package variants. The base package on the 350Z in Canada is significantly more equipped than the US base package (still cheeses me that I can't buy a true base version though). The Canadian base is the GT (Grand Touring) model. The US models/packages available are (in order of price/equipment): Base, Enthusiast, Touring & GT. The US GT is $36,100. 4. Economies of scale. Lastly, we simply sell fewer vehicles in Canada, but some of the fixed costs of operating in a market would be similar. For argument's sake, imagine that the cost to run the marketing & finance departments is $20 million in both markets. If the US sells 200,000 cars, that means the cost per car is $100. If Canada sells 20,000 cars, the cost per car is $1,000 (it adds up quick). Enough of the economics lesson. What do you do? One way around this is to play "vehicle arbitrage" as my brother did on his Escalade. Investigate this option before you buy a vehicle. You need to be careful of potential warranty issues, but you can save a bundle. Cheers,

3.5 Altima
Yeah, Sailorbob and I wish...Canadian pricing is wacky. The fluctuations in currency exchange have not been fully reflected in price and in many cases, due to the lower # of vehicles produced for this market, cars such as the 350Z have relatively few trim options. Case in point: Base price of a Altima Coupe 3.5 SE: $31,398 CAD ($30,255 USD) Options available: CVT $1,200 CAD ($1,156 USD) Premium Package $4,000 CAD ($3,854 USD) Navigation $3,000 CAD ($2,890 USD) Metallic Paint $125 CAD ($120 USD) 3 Coat Paint $285 CAD ($275 USD) Now brace yourself... Base price of a 350Z GT Coupe: $49,798 CAD ($47,985 USD) Options available: Navigation $2,950 CAD ($2,843 USD) That's it. No other options...The GT Coupe is the cheapest model available, the only other model available is the Roadster. On top of this, add $1,350 freight and PDE to my dealer and tack on 15% sales tax and the cheapest you can get a 350Z off the lot for is over $57,000 CAD ($54,925 USD)!!! Not often you will hear me say this, but every once in a while I wish I lived in the US... As a side note, this isn't just Nissan. My brother just bought an Escalade ESV stateside for $62,000 USD. The exact same vehicle in Canada is listed at $90,600 CAD ($87,302 USD). Makes you want to spear an automotive marketing in the gut (hockey reference for you non-Canadians)... Cheers,
