  2. Most of the industrial plating shops will zinc plate and yellow chromate, however they will not guarantee results (yellow chromate can have a blue or purple hue to it). One alternative is to piant the parts (or powder coat) a similar color. I painted several years ago and was very happy (paint has dulled and discolored over the years and I will need to do again at some point). The best thing you can do is clean, clean, clean the engine compartment. I use Tuff-Stuff foam degreaser/cleaner. It is mild enough not to damage like Purple Stuff or Castrol Degreaser. Spend tons of time in each section and rinse with a light mist. The Avalon Racing site has a good detail section, also see the ZCCA judging sheets on the ZCCA site. Both will give you some great ideas as to what to look for and how to clean. Good luck, Glen 78 280Z
  3. I have not done this operation, but we press bearings and gears all the time (I work for Boston Gear). General advise: 1. Be sure you support your work. 2. Use the right size pressing head. 3. When you start to press, start, back off, start again. Do this twice. It will allow the work to self center if your press is square. If you start and the work is off, you can really damage parts. 4. Steady pressure. 5. When you hit bottom, know when to stop. Good luck, Glen 78 280Z 94 300ZX 2+2
  4. Yes, however, the cost to register the day of is $25 instead of $20 for preregistration. Thanks, Glen
  5. We want you there. Glen

Please see this write up of the event by one of the attendees (who is also a member of the Carolina Z Club out of Charlotte) - I could not have said it any better. Regards, Glen 78 280Z 94 300ZX 2+2 Anyone who couldn't go missed an awesome event!! There were close to 200 cars that represented a spectacular display of every generation Z car. Some participants traveled over 1000 miles to be a part of this event. This weekend was so much fun, I don't even know where to start...so I'll just go chronologically. Friday: My wife and I had a nice leisurely drive up late Friday. Stopped in Bryson City for dinner and checked out The Great Smokey Mountains Railroad. The drive on route 74 was wide open with very little traffic and then the last leg on route 28 was just a tease for things to come. Check in at Fontana Village was a breeze, however, the couple in front of us was complaining about their room...no sheets, no pillows, etc...turns out the husband reserved a "camping cabin" and the wife wanted "The Ritz". Found our cottage on the first try...dumb luck. The resort is a lot like the summer camps our parents would sent us to for two weeks every year. Lots of things to do and we could walk to almost everything. Calling Fontana a "Resort" is really for the imaginative people, it's really a camp in a very remote and beautiful location. The first thing you notice is how quite and peaceful it is. Lots of frogs, crickets, birds and the sweet sound of a Z exhaust every now and then... We walked around a little and then hit the sack in anticipation of the day to come. Saturday: Woke up much later than normal (slept great), went to another CZC member's cabin for a cup of coffee at 8:00...finding his cabin was more like a road rally. The "resort map" (a real oxymoron), was more of a rough trail map and not even close to scale. We eventually all found our way around. As for this cabin, we all wanted to move in with him it was in new condition and very roomy.... All the club members and I all headed to the General Store for breakfast...cookies and soda..... We all tended to meet at the General Store, probably cause it was hardly ever open and the parking lot was always empty. As we hung out at the store, other CZC members started showing up and we were all getting the itch to "run the Dragon" but knew we didn't really have the time with the show beginning at noon. So one of the members said follow me and we all took of down route 28. I think we only exceeded the speed limit once, primarily because once we broke it, we never went back below the speed limit until ending at Deals Gap and the beginning of the Dragon. Just kidding, we had to stop once because one member blew one of his intercooler hoses off. I'm sure it was a bad clamp and not the jillion pounds of boost we were all running... We all hung out on the hairpin turn watching the cars and bike scream by as we worked on his car. We all than calmly raced back to the village and began the car wash routine. It was something to watch 200 cars trying to use one hose...it actually went quit smoothly... Of course, I went to the gas station where the sign said "car wash" and figured I'd avoid the rush. Went in to pay and the guy laughed and pointed to the hose... The car show started promptly at noon and it was packed. Great Zs everywhere you looked!! The ZDayz staff worked their butts off ALL DAY and I'm sure missed most of the fun. THANK YOU TO ANDY...what a great event. The registration group spent the entire afternoon handing all the registrations and logistics. Their typing must be over 70 words per minute after all the practice Saturday...THANKS GUYS!!! So many people, so many cars, so many give always, so much fun... Took so long and had to postpone the trophy presentation until dinner... Actually, it took 3 hours for the guys to count all the votes. The BBQ dinner was an event in itself...lots of good conversation with fellow Z enthusiasts from all over. Met lots of people, Bob Bell publisher of Sport Z Magazine, a factory Nissan executive, several people from Z1, lots of the car owners...could have talked Zs all night. Award highlights (I'm not sure I have these exactly correct): Mike Jr. wins 3rd generation Modified - Best in Class Mike Sr. takes Best Dressed Engine Mike Jr gives is dad some grief because his trophy is bigger than dads..... Then....10 minutes later, Mike Sr. wins Best in Show!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! After the awards and trophies we had cake...not just an ordinary cake, it was a 4 foot Z decorated to look like the tail of the dragon. Covered with Z cars racing up the Dragon..I particularly like the cop car in the ditch... Most of us called it a night but the poker game went well into the evening. Sunday: Met at the General Store at 8:00AM. Not that we were anxious to run the Dragon but a few guys never shut their cars off while we gathered... We all took off down rout 28 to Deals Gap...wolfed down a sausage egg and biscuit, a few people gassed up, talked with a few other Z guys and bikers and then got "the report"....NO COPS out yet today...so we take off with Ron driving Dave's 300ZX and Dave operating the video...they set the pace, so you know it was fun... WORDS CAN NOT DESCRIBE THE NEXT 15 MINUTES!!! No one in front of us the entire way. Tight left and right turns, hairpins, decreasing radius, smooth S turns and the surface conditions were perfect and dry. The road surface was smooth and well marked with double yellow in the middle, with a white line on the right edge. The single and double black strips leading to the woods usually meant slow down. I'm not sure it would be possible to have more fun in your Z car than running the Dragon.. We got to the other end way too soon...pulled off by the bridge and shot the breeze with the group and other Z enthusiasts that pulled in. Had never seen my car "launch" from a dead stop and asked if someone wanted to launch it up the ¼ mile straight section we were hanging out at...Yup, Ron volunteered for the job...just didn't here what the "job" was...took the keys an blew out of the lot across the bridge. Not a sound of him for 5 minutes and then he comes screaming across the bridge...I heard the shift into 4th gear and if he shifted at the redline I told him to shift at it's probably best I don't say how fast he was going. He went up to the turnaround and then came blasting back past us and over the bridge again and out of sight, then screaming over the bridge and past us AGAIN...Thanks to one of the members for throwing the "black flag" to him on his way back for his 5th pass...he never did get the drag race launch in... O well, I guess there will be another day... At least he left me enough gas to get back on... We ran the Dragon again going back and we were all grinning from ear to ear... You have not lived until you "Run the Dragon". Anyone who has not been able to make the ZdayZ event really needs to find a way to make it happen next year. It was great to see everyone from CZC!! What a great weekend... Randy

April 18, 2005 Greetings, everyone! With just over a month to go, ZDayZ is shaping up to be one of the best Z events this year! At last count, Fontana Village was nearing capacity with over 100 room reservations! And, so far, we have pre-registered more Zs for this year’s car show than we had in total last year! Remember, we’ve extended registration until April 30th. So, you still have a little time to get signed up for the car show or to pre-order your event t-shirts at discounted rates. ZDayZ Sponsors Giveaways If hanging out with your Z-buddies isn’t enough to get you motivated, perhaps you can be enticed by the prizes being graciously donated by our sponsors (and even some donated by “unofficial” ZDayZ sponsors!). The items received will be given away at various activities throughout the weekend. Your best chance to walk away with some Z-booty will be during the Friday Welcome Dinner, the Car Show Raffle, or during the ZDayZ Texas Hold’em Tournament. Though, we will have prizes at other times to be announced at ZDayZ. Boxes are still arriving with goodies. So, at this point, we cannot provide a full list of what we’ll be giving away yet. A small sample of items already waiting for a new home include a set of Hotchkis Sway Bars (from GSC motorsports), a Crawford Cast Plenum (from Crawford Z Car service), Gift Certificates for Concept Z Performance, Popchargers (from Jim Wolf Technology), plenty of Z goodies (from Courtesy Nissan), something really cool from Triangle Z Club which I will not announce until ZDayZ, and much more! All our sponsors are kicking in prizes. Here is the “official” list of sponsors, in no particular order. We’ll be announcing a few late additions to this list at ZDayZ: · Fontana Village Resort · Sport Z Magazine · Concept Z Performance · GSC Motorsports · Crawford Z Car Service · University Nissan · KP Technologies · Z1 Motorsports · TailoftheDragon.com · Courtesy Nissan Parts · Jim Wolf Technology · Zaino Brothers Show Car Polish · 350ZFRENZY.com · ZEETOYZ, Inc. Prepping your car for ZDayZ Driving any mountain road can be pretty demanding on your car. Before visiting ZDayZ and the mountains of NC and TN, we recommend giving your car an inspection to ensure everything is in good working order. Attached with this newsletter is a safety checklist used at THSCC/TZC Driving School events. Please review it and inspect the items applicable to your car. This way you will be more likely to have an enjoyable and safe weekend on the mountain roads! ZDayZ Car Show! Saturday afternoon will be dominated by our 2nd Annual ZDayZ Car Show. Onsite registration and car show parking will begin just after lunch. Once all entrants have been parked and owners have a chance to put the last minute sparkle on their rides, voting will begin. The car show is Peoples Choice, so those entering the show are also the judges! Each entrant will receive a voting ballot to pick their favorite Z from each class. Votes will be tallied by ZDayZ staff and winners will be announced following raffle prize giveaways. In addition to the Peoples Choice categories, we will present a few other special awards. Following is the full list of car show awards: · 1st Generation Stock – Peoples Choice · 1st Generation Modified – Peoples Choice · 2nd Generation Stock – Peoples Choice · 2nd Generation Modified – Peoples Choice · 3rd Generation Stock – Peoples Choice · 3rd Generation Modified – Peoples Choice · 4th Generation Stock – Peoples Choice · 4th Generation Modified – Peoples Choice · 5th Generation Stock (350Z) – Peoples Choice · 5th Generation Modified (350Z) – Peoples Choice · 5th Generation FI Modified (350Z & G35) – Peoples Choice · G35 Stock – Peoples Choice · G35 Modified – Peoples Choice · Best In Show – Peoples Choice · “What’s Hot in the Street” Award – ZDayZ Staff · Best Dressed Engine Award – ZDayZ Staff · Best “Under Construction” Award – ZDayZ Staff · Long Distance Award – ZDayZ Staff · Sport Z Magazine Publishers’ Choice Award – Sport Z Magazine representatives ZDayZ Group Photo Following the car show awards ceremony, we’ll direct all ZDayZ attendees, whether they were in the car show or not, to Fontana Dam where we will take a big group shot of all the Z cars together! Last year we squeezed close to 80 Z cars into our picture. This year, we hope to double that number! We’ll allow enough time for everyone to take their own pictures or video, but we also hope to have a professional photographer on site to capture this glorious display of Zs! Featured Club Sponsor: Upstate Z Club Based in Greenville, SC, Upstate Z Club is an enthusiastic and friendly bunch of Z car owners. Their members cover the whole spectrum… 240Z to 350Z, stock to modified to very modified. They arrived at ZDayZ 2004 with quite an array of cars and one of their members, Brian Wilmot, walked away with both the 2004 Best in Show award and the Sport Z Publishers’ Choice award! I suspect even more of them will show up for this year’s show. So be ready for some stiff competition! For more information about the club, visit their website, www.upstatezclub.com, or I’m sure you can catch up with a few of them at ZDayZ! Featured Sponsor: Jim Wolf Technology For the second consecutive year, we’re happy to have Jim Wolf Technology as a sponsor of ZDayZ at Tail of the Dragon. Jim Wolf Technology, known to most as JWT, has been specializing in Datsun, Nissan, and Infiniti performance parts for over 30 years. Their product lines range from performance street pieces to factory race team parts. Simply put, JWT makes some of the best and most affordable aftermarket parts available for Z cars. Engine performance parts, ECU upgrades, clutches, flywheels, and more… chances are JWT has parts to make your 280ZX, 300ZX, or 350Z an even better performing sports car. Find more information at www.jimwolftechnology.com. Featured Sponsor: ZEETOYZ, Inc ZEETOYZ, Inc. is a relatively new company, but don’t let that fool you. This Canadian company specializing in 350Z parts is cranking out some high quality products to personalize the look of your 350Z. Currently offering several engine bay dress-up parts, ZEETOYZ adds to their already impressive selection of parts on a regular basis. In addition, we have ZEETOYZ to thank for our wonderful, limited-edition 2005 ZDayZ key chains! Be sure to visit their website, www.zeetoyz.com. And while you’re at ZDayZ, look for Terry from ZEETOYZ who is making the trip from Canada to join us! More ZDayZ news in a few weeks!

Car Show Registration Update! There are two changes to registration process for the ZDayZ car show. First, we are extending pre-registration until April 30th. This is an extra two weeks for the last minute entries to be submitted. All entries must be received (not postmarked) by April 30, 2005. So, make sure mailed forms are sent in appropriate time to meet the deadline. After this date, we will still accept registration/pre-order forms, but prices will be the same as those charged onsite during ZDayZ. Second, a huge number of car show registrations have been received from the 350Z community. Due to the overwhelming numbers, we are adding another class to the show for 5th Generation cars. The new class will be 5th Generation FI-Modified and will be made up of 350Zs and G35s equipped with a supercharger or turbocharger(s). Entries already received for FI equipped cars have been bumped into the new class. Those yet to enter should download the latest version of the pre-registration form from our website, www.zdayzevents.com, and select the “FI-Modified” class from the dropdown list. ZDayZ CaravanZ! Ready for ZDayZ, but wish you could make the trip with some friends? Well, despair no more! Just visit our website and check out the CaravanZ section, http://www.zdayzevents.com/zforum/. This convenient web forum has been set up to allow you to contact other ZDayZ attendees from your area or along the travel route you are taking. Find out who else is coming, then set up your own caravan of Z-cars to ensure you arrive at Fontana Village in good company! Detailing 101 with DrBonz It was a big hit last year, so we’re bringing back Ed Uberti for a couple of detailing sessions to help you get the most out of cleaning your Z or G. Many may know Ed better by the nom de plum he uses on 350Z web forums, DrBonz. He can often be found giving pointers online, especially regarding the Zaino Car Polish Products he and many others prefer. This will be your chance to see a firsthand demonstration and seek detailing knowledge directly from the Zaino-Master himself! Detailing 101 will be conducted on Friday at 4:00pm and again on Saturday at 11:00am. These sessions are the same, so you only need to attend one unless you just enjoy watching other folks wash cars. ZDayZ Texas Hold’Em Tournament It’s all the rage now… Texas Hold’Em Tournaments and celebrity events are on tv all the time. The game continues to grow in popularity as more and more people take their chances betting on the flop, the turn, and the river. Well, now you have a chance to show your poker skills to the Z community. Even if you don’t play poker, this will be a great opportunity for you to come out and mingle with other folks at ZDayZ. The Texas Hold’Em Tournament will begin around 7:00pm on Saturday following the BBQ dinner. The entry fee is $15 and includes raffle tickets for each entrant. No matter how well you play your cards, you still have a chance to win something! House rules will be provided before the event begins. The first round will consist of six qualifying tables, each with a set number of seats filled on a first come, first serve basis. This round will run approximately 2 hours or until each table has a single winner. Between the first round and the final round, raffle prizes will be drawn. Following a short break, the final round will begin with the six winners from the first round tables. Play will continue until there is a single winner or until the game is called by ZDayZ staff. Each player in the final round will win sponsor-donated ZDayZ prizes based on their finish position. The better a finalist finishes, the better the prize! Note: There are no cash payouts for this event! Featured Sponsor Club: Metro Detroit Z Club How did this happen? An upper Midwest club sponsoring a southeast regional event??? Well, I for one could not be happier to have them! Their support just goes to show the widespread appeal the Tail of the Dragon has to Z-drivers all over the country. When you consider we already have attendees coming from 20 states and Canada, it really isn’t hard to understand why this, or any Z-club, would want to sponsor our event. Metro Detroit Z Club is based in… you guessed it… Detroit, MI. The club is very active in all aspects of Z-recreation… car shows, track events, cruises… you name it and this club is ready to do it! If you visit online Z-forums, you’ve probably bumped into one or more of Metro Detroit Zs members without even realizing it. In fact, they have a web forum of their own you can visit, http://www.detroitz.com/. If you want more information about the club, contact Gerry Bohn or Mike Zack through the club forum. Featured Sponsor: Z1 Motorsports This year, we’re happy to add Z1 Motorsports to our list of vendor sponsors. Z1 is located in Carrollton, GA, not far from Atlanta. The company was started by Z enthusiasts in 2000 and quickly grew to be one of the biggest Z32 specialists in the country. Z1 did not stop there, though. Since the release of the 350Z, Z1 Motorsports has expanded their operation to include services and parts for the 350Z and G35 communities as well. A reflection of their rapid growth can be seen in their recent move to a huge 15,000sqft facility. From this state of the art location, Z1 continues to offer a wide variety of performance parts and quality services to its customers. Visit the Z1 Motorsports website, www.300zx.com, or give them a call at 770-838-7777 to find out what they have to offer. Featured Sponsor: Zaino Car Show Polish Returning this year to sponsor our detailing events (see Detailing 101 on page 1) is Zaino Car Show Polish Products. The Zaino line of products offers an easy, no hassle way for ordinary and not-so-ordinary cars to achieve a show car quality appearance. Zaino produces award-winning finishes without the use of abrasives or harmful silicon compounds. Created using advanced molecular chemistry processes, Zaino products offer the wettest-looking, clearest, deepest, and longest lasting finish in the industry. Quite simply this is one of the best products around as demonstrated by several first place ratings by independent testers and magazines. To learn more about Zaino Car Show Polish Products or to order your own supply, visit their website, www.zainostore.com. Andy Morris ZDayZ Organizer info@zdayzevents.com

Here it comes… More exciting news about ZDayZ! There have been quite a few questions on various web forums surrounding meal arrangements. Hopefully our topics this week will help clarify things. Dining Hall Unless posted otherwise, all meals at Fontana Village Resort will be held in the Peppercorn Room of the main lodge. This large hall should easily accommodate our group and provide a nice atmosphere to exchange Dragon tales over dinner. Attendees will be on their own for lunch each day. We assume most people will be driving during the day and want to pick up lunch while they are out and about. All other meals will be available at the Peppercorn Room. Though if you want to eat elsewhere… without all your Z friends… you may do so… go ahead… we won’t make fun of you. J Meals served at the Peppercorn Room will be Friday breakfast, Friday Welcome Dinner, Saturday breakfast, Saturday BBQ Dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Meals at Fontana Village are at your expense. Breakfasts will be off the menu. Dinners are buffet style. Last year, the prices were around $11 per meal and we expect it to be similar this year. Saturday BBQ Dinner Following the Car Show and Group Photo on Saturday, we are having a BBQ dinner. The BBQ is being provided by Sweetwater BBQ in Robbinsville, NC. Some of the ZDayZ crowd sampled this restaurant last year and said the BBQ was fantastic! The dinner includes your choice of BBQ (chicken or pork), sides, and a drink. You can save a little money by pre-paying for your BBQ dinner using the Car Show pre-registration form. ZDayZ Cra-Z Shirt Contest! Okay, we’re not 100% fixed on what we’re going to call this contest, but Friday night during the Welcome Dinner there will be an outrageous shirt contest. Basically, just grab you most outlandish, craziest, most suggestive, and/or attention-grabbing shirt and wear it to dinner on Friday night! We don’t care if it’s a t-shirt, Hawaiian shirt, or other… as long as it is wonderfully obnoxious. We do ask you to please refrain from donning shirts that would be considered vulgar or derogatory. ZDayZ staff and sponsors are also encouraged to participate. Each ZDayZ staff member will pick a favorite shirt (other than their own). The winners will be selected from these finalists and take home some cool ZDayZ prizes! Featured Sponsor Club: Triangle Z Club Triangle Z Club is not your typical group of Z enthusiasts. Sure, they love their cars and have fun meetings and events, but like any good Z Club they have a personality all their own. Based in the Raleigh area, this group continues to be one of the more active clubs in NC and it is not uncommon to see a few of the TZC crew show up at other Z Clubs’ events. One thing that really sets this club apart is their event calendar. A typical year reads like a racing series! TZC is very active organizing track events for the Z community at places such as VIR in Virginia, Roebling Road in Georgia, and Carolina Motorsports Park in South Carolina. In addition to their very active track calendar, they still find time for a TZC Z-car show, club picnic, and more! If you’re ever out near Raleigh, drop in on their monthly meeting and say ‘hi’ (first Thursday of each month). For more information on track events, contact Stacy King through the TZC website. Their next event is April 9-10 at VIR! Featured Sponsor: Crawford Z Car Service Ever heard of these guys? If not, you probably haven’t been listening too hard to the word on the street. Crawford Z Car Service has been around for 25 years providing proven performance parts and excellent service to the Z Car community. The quality of Crawford’s Parts and Service is no accident. Much of their knowledge comes from decades of track experience. This translates into better products for the Z-Car you park in your garage and the thousands of other customers they have served over the years. To learn more about Crawford Z, take a peak at their website, www.crawfordzcar.com, or give them a call at 615-327-4159. If you get a hold of Doug, tell him the gang over at ZDayZ sent you. Featured Sponsor: University Nissan This year, we’re proud to add to our rank of sponsors, University Nissan of Boone. Located in the NC mountains, University Nissan is a full service Nissan dealership committed to meeting all your Nissan needs. Check them out for quality parts, service, and, of course, new and used Nissan vehicles! Never too far out of the way, University Nissan’s website allows you to shop their inventory and even request financing online. You can contact them by visiting www.universitynissan.com or calling 1-800-798-9826. That’s all for this week. More information soon! Andy Morris ZDayZ Organizer info@zdayzevents.com

ZDayZ continues to move closer and, as it does, we are working to ensure there is a wide range of activities to keep everyone busy! This week, a few reminders and our tentative ZDayZ Schedule! Room Reservations! If you have not done so yet, be sure to book your room or cabin soon! Fontana Village Resort has just over 100 rooms/cabins and our last update from them indicates about half of those are already booked! We plan to identify overflow sites if necessary, but believe me, you will want to be on-site at the heart of ZDayZ if at all possible. To book rooms, call Fontana Village Resort at 1-800-849-2258. Room/Cabin information can be found at www.fontanavillage.com. Car Show Pre-Registration & T-Shirt Pre-Orders! There has already been a great response to the pre-registration form sent out a few weeks ago. Please keep them coming. The more pre-registration forms we receive, the easier it is for us to plan and prepare for ZDayZ weekend. NOTE: Even if you are not planning to enter the car show, the pre-registration form is also used to pre-order your event t-shirts (guarantees specific sizes) and to pay for the Saturday night BBQ dinner ahead of time. Further incentive to pre-register! Since pre-registration makes things easier on us, we wanted to say “thank you” somehow for those folks who are taking the time to pre-register. So, each person who submits a car show pre-registration is guaranteed to receive, as part of their registration pack, the ZDayZ keychain shown here. These will be limited. If we have extras available they will be available for sale at the event, but those who pre-register their car for the show will receive one absolutely free! ZDayZ Schedule of Events (Tentative) Though the information provided is tentative, we are confident the schedule provided is close to being official. There is a possibility of some rescheduling, but would most likely be limited to minor timing changes if anything. Watch our website, www.zdayzevents.com, for updates. Because several items are planned throughout the day on Saturday, we tried to leave most of Friday and Sunday open for driving. Activities noted with an * include prizes, giveaways, awards, or some combination of the three. Sport Z Magazine Coverage! For the second consecutive year, we are fortunate to have representatives of Sport Z Magazine on-site supporting and covering our event! Expect to see Bob Bell and Art Singer mingling with all the Z-enthusiasts to get inspiration for the next issue of Sport Z. Who knows… if you’re lucky, maybe your car will find its way into the magazine! Featured Sponsor Club: Middle Tennessee Z Club Nestled in the heart of Nashville, TN is a group of Z-lovers bordering on the fanatic. Each one loves their Z-car and the thrill of driving it. More importantly, this group just knows how to have fun. They are a great addition to any event, Z-related or not. Members can frequently be found hanging out at Crawford Z Car Service in Nashville. (I guess having the company owner as a MTZC member is a good thing!) Be sure to watch for their annual show coming up in April. This year Z-Attack 5 is being held April 15 & 16 and includes a Nissan Assembly Plant Tour, Chili Party, People’s Choice Car Show, and plenty of hi-jinx from the MTZC regulars. I attended this event last year and cannot begin to describe how much fun it was. If you have any questions about the club or Z-Attack 5, contact Randy Shemin or Doug Stewart through the MTZC website, www.middletennesseezclub.com. Featured Sponsor: Sport Z Magazine Not only is Sport Z covering ZDayZ… they are a returning sponsor! If you haven’t taken the time yet to pick up Sport Z Magazine, you should head to your local newsstand right now and buy an issue. Sport Z arrived on the scene toward the end of 2000 to cover the world of the Z-car… providing feature articles, how-to’s, news, and more. In the 4+ years since the magazine debuted, it has grown in popularity, expanded its coverage, and continues to provide quality articles Z-enthusiasts are eager to read. The current issue is a hefty 72-pages and now includes coverage of the Infiniti G35. Nationally distributed, you should be able to find a copy locally (if your newsstand is not sold out!). So grab one and find out the latest happenings in the Z-world. More news and fun can be found on their frequently updated website, www.sportzmagazine.com. Located in Charleston, SC, the company was formed in 2002 by a group of enthusiasts who, like most of us, enjoy transforming their stock, some-what mundane sports cars into rolling mechanical marvels. Employees of GSC are frequently involved in sanctioned racing events and pass along their experience and knowledge to their customers. Hello again! A couple more weeks have passed and progress continues toward putting together an even better ZDayZ than last year. This week, we have some very important information for you regarding ZDayZ t-shirts, our car show, and a couple more of our sponsors. Pre-Registration & Event T-Shirts! First and foremost, please see the additional form concerning car show pre-registration and ZDayZ 2005 t-shirt pre-orders. Pricing and payment information is included on the form. Pre-registration and pre-ordering helps us greatly with planning and saves attendees some money. Basically, if you plan to enter the car show, eat a BBQ dinner after the car show, and buy one event t-shirt, pre-registering will cost $40 for everything vs. $48 at the show… a difference of $8! There are savings on individual shirts and dinners as well. We encourage you to distribute the Pre-Registration Form to others who may attend ZDayZ. You can also download the attached form our website, www.zdayzevents.com. The pre-registration form can be found on the FormZ page. Forms should be submitted as soon as possible. Deadline for us to receive your pre-registration information is Friday, April 15, 2005. After this date, attendees must pay the full event day pricing and we will not be able to guarantee specific t-shirt sizes (though, we will endeavor to have enough shirts to fill orders). Any questions about pre-registration may be directed to info@zdayzevents.com Car Show Classes For those curious, we wanted to share our class structure for this year’s ZDayZ Car Show. Remember, the ZDayZ Car Show is a People’s Choice event. All show entrants vote for their favorite car in each class. We feel this is more fun and a little more forgiving for the entrants since most will be driving all weekend and will find it difficult to keep their Zs “car show” clean. Our Classes for this year · 1st Generation (70-78) Z stock · 1st Generation (70-78) Z modified · 2nd Generation (79-83) Z stock · 2nd Generation (79-83) Z modified · 3rd Generation (84-89) Z stock · 3rd Generation (84-89) Z modified · 4th Generation (90-96) Z stock · 4th Generation (90-96) Z modified · 5th Generation (03- ) Z stock · 5th Generation (03- ) Z modified · G35 stock · G35 modified A large amount of interest from the G35 community prompted us to include them in the show this year. We will also have some special awards. This year we will again be handing out our Long Distance award and a Sport Z Magazine Publishers’ Choice award. In addition, we will be giving out a couple of fun, new prizes. Featured Sponsor Club: Smoky Mountain Z Club Smoky Mountain Z Club is one of our new club sponsors for 2005. Based out of Knoxville, TN, Tail of the Dragon (Hwy 129) is a scant 70 miles away for this crew. So, I’m sure they are quite knowledgeable of the area and will be able to help the rest of us find other fun roads when the Dragon starts to become crowded later in the day. I have not met any SMZC members in person yet, but have been assured they are a great, enthusiastic bunch and are a good addition to our event. If you’re ever in the Knoxville area, shoot club president Rick Rawe an email and I’m sure the SMZC will make you feel right at home. Contact information can be found on their website, http://www.automedic.org/smzcc/ Featured Sponsor: Concept Z Performance One of our returning corporate sponsors from ZDayZ 2004 is Concept Z Performance. Located in Glendale, AZ, this online parts vendor carries a wide selection of performance parts for the 300ZX, 350Z, and G35. In business since 1997, Concept Z Performance kicked things off with a ’92 Scarlet Red 300ZXTT and never slowed down. In the years since, they have gained significant hands-on experience with modern Z-cars and other Nissan vehicles. Check out their website, www.conceptzperformance.com for their latest round of specials. For more information, visit the website or call them at 623-937-6400. Featured Sponsor: TailoftheDragon.com Another returning sponsor, TailoftheDragon.com (aka Tail of the Dragon, LLC) is an incredible source for information about Hwy 129 and the surrounding area. Their website covers everything from the history of the Dragon to upcoming events to where to watch for speed traps. They even have their own online store providing all kinds of Tail of the Dragon merchandise. In fact, the gang over at TailoftheDragon.com are helping us put together our event t-shirts again this year. So, when you have a minute, check out their site and see what all excitement is all about… www.tailofthedragon.com. That’s all for now. Watch for our next newsletter. This is already on the calander, but I wanted to post it other places to be sure everyone got the message. ZDayz is an absolute blast, I recommend this trip for everyone who can possibly make it. The roads are awesome, the resort is great and the food was outstanding. The fellowship was what made the weekend so much fun. There were all sorts of cars (heavy on the Z32 and 350Zs to be sure). Best of show came from the 240, 260, 280 class. It was (and hopefully still is) a beautiful ride. I encourage everyone to at least take a look. Glen 78 280Z 94 300ZX 2+2 ZDAYZ 2005 - NEWSLETTER #1 Greetings, everyone! It’s time to kick off our official newsletter. This first one is a little longer than most will be. Every couple of weeks, I will be posting more information on the upcoming ZDayZ at Tail of the Dragon event. Hopefully, these messages will provide enough information to whet your appetite for the main event. The newsletters will also be available for download from www.zdayzevents.com. In the coming weeks, watch for more information on our activities, events, sponsors, and more. My intent is to post the newsletter twice a month… once around the 15th, then again at the end of the each month. ZDayZ 2005 Sponsors!!! There are a LOT of people to thank for making ZDayZ possible. To kick things off, we want to say thank you to all our official sponsors for their gracious contributions to the event. In addition, each newsletter will feature spotlight articles about our sponsors. We are happy to say all the 2004 sponsors returned this year and we even managed to add a few new ones. ZDayZ Activities Pricing We realize many attending ZDayZ may already be spending a great deal on transportation and lodging for the event. Still, in order to provide a quality event as we did last year, there are a few items for which we must ask you to part with a little more of your hard earned money. Though, we feel these items are well worth the expense. Of course, you can enjoy ZDayZ without buying or participating in these items, but we wouldn’t recommend it. Details for each item will be highlighted in future newsletters. We provide the tentative prices now so you are aware of possible additional expenses for ZDayZ. When we finalize pricing, a form will be provided on our website for those who wish to pre-order and pre-register. Pre-Event Pricing Car Show (including 1 BBQ Dinner and 1 ZDayZ T-shirt) = $40 Additional BBQ Dinners (each) = $12 Additional ZDayZ 2005 T-shirts (each) = $16.50 At Event Pricing Car Show (including 1 BBQ Dinner) = $30 Additional BBQ Dinners (each) = $12 ZDayZ 2005 T-shirts (each) = $18.00 Booking Rooms for ZDayZ To book your accommodations for ZDayZ 2005, contact our host, Fontana Village Resort at 1-800-849.2258. Be sure to mention you are booking a room for the ZDayZ to take advantage of a special 20% discounted group rate for the event. Featured Sponsor: Fontana Village Resort Since we just mentioned them, to kick things off in our “Featured Sponsor” section we’d like to give a nod to Fontana Village Resort. This will be the second year they have served as host site to our growing event and from day one they have been as eager as we have to make it succeed. Fontana Village Resort is located near Fontana, NC and just a short drive from Fontana Dam and Deal’s Gap, home of the infamous Tail of the Dragon. Their facility includes a beautiful lodge, cabins, conference rooms, an activity center, and more. Not only is it an ideal site for ZDayZ, it’s a great place anytime you want to make a mountain getaway. In addition to providing comfortable lodging, Fontana Village provides mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, paintball (summer only), boat rentals, and a wide range of other indoor and outdoor activities on site.
