Harmonic Damper problem
I also had a very unfortunate engine rebuild that used one of those MSA dampers. It had horrible vibrations from day one. On my recent rebuild I was persuaded to go for what I think is a BMW style damper. Tony Flood from Flood Motorsport who put my motor together was quite insistent that it be installed. His experience goes back to working on the factory Datsun rally Z that was used by Ross Dunkerton to win the Australian Rally Champinship in the early 70s. The damperis quite large (see attached photos). I got mine through Start Wilkins Motorsport.

I could probably keep up with that! Does any one have any experience with QSTARZ BT-Q1000eX (10Hz) lap timer? Can it be integrated with the Go -Pro like TommoHawk describes above?

Collie is a club circuit about 200 kilometers south of Perth. It was a hot day, listening to the audio I can hear a miss which I think is due to fuel vapourisation. I was using an electric fuel pump along with the mechanical pump to a fuel block with aline to each of the Webers. I have reinstalled the return to the fuel tank instead of deadending at the webers. I hope that this along with a better heatshield will fix things at the top-end of the rev range.

Merry Christmas!
Wow- How much fun would it be getting the Z sideways in the snow? A hot 40 degree fuel vaporising in the Webers Christmas day in Perth. Merry Christmas to all.

Had some fun at Barbagallo Raceway WA last weekend. A very wide Falcon and my cheeky mate passed after the chequered flag!- Z Day in WA
We just celebrated the annual Z Day in Western Australia (October 28th). Despite the threat of rain about 20 Zs and a handful of other classic Dattos turned out. Thanks to Peter H for the photos.- Sparco EVO 2 in an S30? Will it fit?

I am really impressed with all the supportive comments and empathy articulated in this thread! Best wishes Chris- Video: My 260 Z at Bathurst Easter 2012
260ZDatsun at Bathurst Easter 2012 Bathurst is the iconic Australain road race circuit. The following is from Wikipedia. The track is 6.213 km (4 mi) long, and is technically a street circuit, as the circuit is a public road when no racing events are being run, and there are many residences which can only be accessed from the circuit. The track is an unusual design by modern standards, with a 174 metre (570 foot) vertical difference between its highest and lowest points, and grades as steep as 1:6.13. From the start-finish line, the track can be viewed in three sections; the short pit straight and then a tight left turn into the long, steep Mountain straight; the tight, narrow section across the top of the mountain itself; and then the long, downhill section of Conrod Straight, with the very fast Chase and the turn back onto pit straight to complete the lap.- Bathurst Motor Festival Easter 2012
Hi Registering an expression of interest very early helped. Link to acouple of laps below. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xObYqNs4Q0Q" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>- Bathurst Motor Festival Easter 2012
Yes that is me in the clip. Bathurst is Australia's most challenging race circuit. Normally it is a public road. Every year in October a 100km event is held for V8 supercars. Few events are held at the circiut each year and the opportunity for club level competitors is very limited. My mate Peter also eneterd his Z and was the motivator to do the event. It was an 8000 kilometer round trip from Perth. The circuit is so good it was really worth the effort. Peter has written an account that can be acessed on our Zclub website via the link below. http://www.wazcars.com/index.php?title=Bathurst_2012- Bathurst Motor Festival Easter 2012

- Is it a Zed... or a Zee?
- broken piston
This is a problem that affects many Z owners. Cheers Chris- Exhaust fumes in the car.. Yaaaaaark....
After trying the many of the solutions mentioned in this and the other thread on the suject I found that the problem went away after I fitted a front spoiler.- 240Zs Australia
There is a very active level of club level motorsport with Zeds here in Western Australia as well as a few very quick ones (unfortunately mine is not one of the quick ones!). Recently 2 Zeds from Western Australia made the long treck across the country to Queensland for the Datsun Nationals. The photos are of a line up on the dummy grid for a timed regularity at Waneroo raceway and from the annual Round the Houses at Albany, where the centre of a rural town is turned into a race track!- Grinding from rear
The temptation to make a totally unhelpful comment but one that I would think outrageously funny is almost too great. Suggest that you get it on hoist and look for any play or movement. Sometimes the solutions to these problems are just a process of elimination, starting with the most obvious first - lets face it the cars are 30 plus years old so any replacement of parts even if seemingly unnecessary is probably not wasted. My guess bearing.- Urethane Steering Coupler Failure
On the weekend one of our Z racers had a fairly new urethane coupler fail on a hill climb track. Essentially it split and half the donut between 2 of the 4 holes fell out. Has anyone else had this type of failure? The only warning was that the scrutineer reported some play in the steering prior to the event but not enough to disallow the car to compete. A possible explanation could be previously spilt brake fluid but this is unlikely. Are aluminium bilet couplers an answer and does anyone make them? Several members of the WA Z Register present on the day are considering reverting to the standard rubber coupler but I am not really keen on soggy steering.- To restore or to race? The story of my '73
Race it. Go for period mods like triple Webers. Once you restore it all you can do is wash it all the time, look at it and $^!# yourself if you think it is going to rain!- Bathurst and Eastern Creek Regularity Vids
I recommend the Bathurst vid to all. The track is Australias most challenging track and watching Tommo's Z go around is awesome. What is not outlined here is the logistical difficulty of getting a race Z from Western Australia to Bathurst which is on the other side of the continent My wife was so impressed with the in car vision from the video, that if I am a really, really good boy I just might maybe allowed to try it one day. In the meanwhile it gives me something to dream about. Cheers Chris- Short Stroke L28
I now have some answers to questions asked earlier. Bore is 88.5, Stroke 73.7 Swept cc 453.4 total 2720cc Compression 10.2 - 1 I have had it on the Dyno and as predicted it is running out of fuel/air just before 7000 rpm The graph climbs steeply from 5800 but plateaus in the low 6000s and falls away sharply from 6800 The maximum power is a slightly disappointing 176 bhp (Australian draft horses not US ponies!) Torque is 742 lb at 5100 The next move is to replace the 40 DCOEs with 34 chokes with 45s and 38 chokes. This may have to wait awhile. In the meantime we are having a weekend club meet at Collie raceway with up to 8 zs in a series of 5 lap driver training runs (or something of that nature). Thanks for the interest in my engine. Cheers Chris - Doing laps *incar videos*
