Pulling engine
Four old head studs work well for bolting the motor on to the engine stand. They are long enough strong enough and the thread matches. I used an old wheel barrow to move the engine around although those furniture dolies look good. I left the gearbox in and tied it ot the bonnet catch as suggested earlier. If you use an old gear shaft to make sure that the clutch is lined up ok the engine will just slip back in - very little swearing involved. It is much quicker not having to drop the tailshaft, drain the gearbox and remove console shifter etc.

Triple Carb
I have got triple 40s with a mild cam on a 280 with flat tops, in my 260Z and love the sound and the more I use it the better it gets. Yes there is a bit of mucking around to get them right and if you just dribble around town they run rough at low revs but give it a big squirt and the Z really grunts. I just hope that I am not the first 50 year old to loose his car through the recently introduced hoon legislation, by getting it sideways on the freeway on ramp!

new member-exhaust fumes in interior ???
Thanks Carl. My problem has been petrol fumes and I suspected but couldn't find any firewall leaks. I hadn't considered that they could be coming from the rear of the car. Cheers Chris

Don't forget to undo the two little locating bolts (not head Studs)at the very front. I know it sounds obvious but they are easy to overlook. Cheers Chris

RIP Peter Brock.
My first motor race as a spectator was at Sandown in Victoria as a young boy and Peter Brock was racing in a sports sedan (?) the A30 with the Holden motor. From memory the racing between him in the A30 and a Fiat Arbath was close and exciting with Brocky usually winning if it was dry and the Fiat being able to out barake him and get around the A30 if it was wet. As motor sport went it was fantastic with the A 30 being really hairy and sideways and the Arbath neat and tidy always on the racing line. This got me interested in motor sport for life. Later I was on the mountain at Bathurst as a spectator and caught up in the whole Holden versus Ford and Brock versus Moffat bit. I seem to remember seeing him in a round Australia event in the mid 90's when I lived in Kununurra. I cannot remember what event this was because the famous Repco around Australia event that he won in the VB(?) Commodore was about a decade earlier. About two years ago Peter Brock visited my bookshop. He was supporting his then wife Bev who had written a biography. Hundreds of fans turned up and he made sure to spend some time talking with each of them. After the signing he was most concerned that a young disabled fan would be able to get a signed book and went out of his way to make it happen. After the signing Bev wanted to do some shopping so Peter was quite happy to sit discuss the current motor racing scene and chat generally with our staff for about an hour and a half. He was a genuinely nice guy. His interest in people and his charisma was such that he won over the non motor racing fan booksellers. One of our literary types couldn't believe that a rev-head could be so knowledgeable and interested in so many issues. Many people will chronicle his achievements and the good things that he has done. I just wanted to say that he had an impact on my life and it was a real bonus to later find out first hand that he was the real thing and a genuinely nice guy. chris b
