  1. well I got the car back. Drove it about 10kms and it is definitely a huge improvement over what it was a few weeks ago. Still has some movement in it I think, but if you stick a jack under the diff it doesn't raise 2 inches anymore. Hopefull the inspector thinks its ok now. Funny thing though, I had the ball joints at the front replaced as well. Inspecting the tierod ends showed that the grease nipples had never been fitted.... Ever! So from what I can see they have been runing for almost 30 years with no grease in them, but they are still nice and tight, very little movement. Go Nissan!
  2. My mechanic just called. He has 'made' some from something intended for another car that was very similar. He said that the clunk has now gone when you get on/off the accelerator (I think that was the diff hitting the chasis) but there is still some noise from the back but it doesn't feel like someone hitting slapping you upside the head anymore. I'm off to pick it up in half an hour. Should be good enough to pass rego now. If i'm not happy with it I'll order some genuine ones from Allzparts later. Thanks for your help and I'll let you know how they go.
  3. I asked at the local 'supercheap' and he had the superpro catalogue on his computer, when he looked up the bushes and clicked on them they came up as product unavailable and told me they mustn't make them anymore. HOw long ago did you buy yours?
  4. Hi all, I've been trying to get some of the above bushes for my 2+2 and am having difficulting geting them in. I ordered a set of Noltec's about 4 months ago, had them arive at my local AutoOne but never picked them up as I was very busy at the time and the car was getting some rust removed at the time. Now I have the car back and some time on my hands I have re ordered them through the same place and they have not come in (more than 2 weeks when I was told it would be overnight). I have made an enquiry at another spares dealer and been told the part is discontinued???? Anyone know where I can get these from? Desperately need them to pass blueslip (only thing that I was knocked back on)

    Any pics of the seats?
  6. I think I would much rather have factory mags than anything on those websites.
  7. If you are paying someone to do everything it will cost at least ~$5000 for a 'good' engine conversion. That doesn't include the engine and gearbox, just labour and consumables. This is a good conversion. You may be able to find cheaper but I would question the quality and quite often you'll be given a lower quote only to find they bump it up latter on due to 'unforseen' problems. RB26 is going to set you back probably in the ball park of 5000. That leaves you 5000 which probably wouldn't even do your rust repairs and paint if there is any significant rust. For 15000 I think you could do your body work and paint, some suspension work and mabye have enough left for an L28T but even that would be pushing it if your paying someone to do all your work.
  8. I haven't done the cigaratte lighter switch yet. I have seen it done a long time ago and I can't imagine it would be to hard to do though. Just a matter of making the lighter complete the circuit. make sure it has good contact though as you don't want your engine to die in the middle of the freeway.

I'm a new south welshman and I was led to believe the rules were pre 74? Anywho, when ever the rule kicks in, if you put a newer engine in that car it must run the factory ECU. I want to put a 1UZ in my 260 eventually and will most likely either need to run the factory ECU for a short period of time or try and gut a Microtech and squeeze it into the factory ecu box and make it look original. If you own a car prior to this law you can run aftermarket ecu's. I think it still has to pass an emissions test though.

I saw this early in the week. I'm tempted to make an offer then swap it all into my zed.
  11. Rewire the cigarette lighter as a kill switch on either ignition or the fuel pump. Has to be pressed in (as if you were about to light a smoke) to start the car. When you park the car, put the lighter in your pocket. If you actually use the lighter then this is not an option as it makes it will not function as a lighter any more.
  12. I've already checked the Uni joints and they are fine. It has had the shaft replaced recently as I can see the writing on it still from when it was at the wreckers. I've ordered the bushes that I mentioned as they are only $40. Where can I buy the front diff mount from in Aus? I ordered the Noltec bushes through the local Auto One.
  13. dragging this up again i have a clunk in the rear of me zed. there is no play in the diff etc but when i had the rear wheels in the air i could jack the diff up a couple of inches so i think the bushes are shot. looking at some of the links that have been posted in this thread i found these 'Datsun 240/260Z Diff Mount Moustache Bar bushes - Noltec $44.30' is this what i need? are there any other bushes i should replace atthe same time?
  14. I watched the one where they tried to rip the rear end off a police car. Failed but had a good go at it!

Excellent. Thats just near my work! And I don't mind waiting for a quality job (I have a motorbike as my main form of transport)
