  1. My '76 has factory air, I'll wrench the camera away from the stepdaughter and see if I can get you some pics this weekend. 9/4/05 Edit: Sorry it took so long to get these posted, here are pics of my factory A/C unit, I hope you can still use them! Follow this link for the pics: http://www.msnusers.com/BrysonsHomepage/zcarpics.msnw?albumlist=2 Spdloader
  2. Do you want pics of factory air, or of the add-on system? Spdloader

Here in the Piedmont area of NC, diesel is around $2.55gal, regular unleaded is $2.45gal. I'm sick of it too, I have a grading business and drive a dump truck for a living, and it's eating me alive. I'd like to see it addressed in the media, and something done about it. It's a real-live concern, unlike a lot of the b.s. that's been going on lately. Spdloader

Dumb question, but I'm asking anyway. How many bulbs, and what type are in the speedometer housing, and the tachometer housing, and are they replaceable without taking the housings out? Thanks in advance, Spdloader 1976 280Z cpe

Welcome! I can add one thing, if the car has been sitting a while, unplug and clean all the connectors under the hood in the wiring harness. Including the grounds and everything. For brass connectors, brush them clean and use some electrical contact cleaner, for plated connectors, use just the contact cleaner and wipe. Don't forget the fuel injector connectors, and the connectors under the thermostat housing, and, they have some bullet connectors 8 to 10 inches into the harness from them that will need cleaning too. Sounds like a lot of work, but it took me around 2 hours to do it right, and probably saved me hours and hours of headaches later. My car had been sitting for about 8 years. Spdloader 1976 280Z
  6. Sorry Pennyman, on my '76 that is where the thermotime switch is, just trying to help. I must be looking at the photo wrong or something. Spdloader
  7. Yep, looks like the thermotime switch. It'll still start and run okay while the weather is warm, but it'll be a little harder to start and warm up, as the weather gets colder. Not an emergency, but should be replaced to keep the system operating properly. Spdloader
  8. Well, then forgive me for stating the obvious, I wasn't insulting your intelligence. To answer your more specific question about the alignment causing problems during "dynamic braking", the answer is "of course it will". The effect will be a direct result of the amount the alignment is off. The opposite of dynamic is static, so the front alignment isn't an issue during a "static" situation. In other words, when you're sitting still, pumping the brakes, the vehicle isn't moving anyway, so the alignment doesn't come into play. I guess I really don't understand your question. Spdloader
  9. Hi, too much toe in will cause your tires to wear on the outside edges of one or both tires if the toe is off enough, and your steering wheel will be crooked. Too much toe out will cause the inside of one or both of the tires to wear. It can cause all sorts of weird handling characteristics at different speeds, too, but shakes and shimmys aren't among them. Chances are the shake is caused by a brake rotor or wheel balance problem. You should have the vehicle aligned as soon as you can, and have it checked twice a year or so, and keep the tires properly inflated, rotated, and balanced. If the vehicle is left out of alignment long enough, you can develop a tire wear pattern that will greatly accelerate the wearing of the tires, and that is hard to correct. Spdloader

The new, electronic flasher units work much better than the oem units. I replaced both my turn signal flasher and hazard flasher units, and no more problems. Spdloader :classic:

Well, you can hear something break in the motor or trans, then the car starts losing speed, then suddenly the rear end comes around. Loosely translated, I think the guy says "holy $hit". ....I could be wrong. Spdloader

I can't help with your question, but wanted to say that's a very nice car. Enjoy. Spdloader

Update, I found it, mounted just above and to the right of the hood release lever, mounted upside down, on it's head, and boy was it corroded. A new digital-style one fixed things right up!!! Spdloader

Can anyone tell me the location of the hazard flasher unit on my '76 280Z? I located the turn signal flasher unit on the driver side kick panel, but I can't find the one for the hazards. Thanks in advance, Spdloader
  16. Well, I found locally a product called Red-Kote, from DamonQ. I am currently coating the tank, putting on three coats, the third one being the last, so I'll be able to report on it's progress by the weekend. It cost 26.95 a qt can, and used about 1-1/2 qts. Spdloader

Hey, did you try unplugging it? How did it work? Spdloader

Unplug your Thermotime switch. It's up front beside the temperature sensor. It tells the cold start injector to stay on when it goes bad. Once you get your car re-started, rev it up a little to keep it running until the excess fuel is burned off and then it should clear up. Then get a new Thermotime switch. Spdloader
  19. I had this one boiled out and cleaned, but it wasn't coated. When I re-installed it, I put a glass type filter inline between the tank and pump, just to see what comes out and to protect the new pump. Just sitting and idling, nothing shows up in the filter, but a little tap on the bottom of the tank, or rock the car sideways, and the filter fills up with rust and the car obviously stalls. ( I know the new pump appreciates it!) This car sat for seven years, and I rescued it three months ago and I've been working on it since. The gas tank is my last obstacle before being able to put it on the road. Thanks for all the replies! Spdloader 1976 280Z (Stock)
  20. .....with my '76 280Z? I've read where some have been successful, but didn't list the type of tank used. I've run out of ideas on finding a useable replacement OEM tank for it. Thanks in advance, Spdloader

Most muffler and brake shops keep brake line in various lengths, sizes, and fittings in stock. The clutch line you are talking about could be easily made at one of these shops. I used to manage a Monro Muffler a few years ago, and it was common to do this. You might check with your local people to see if you can have it done, too. I don't know what companies are in your area, but Midas, Meineke, Monro, etc. are all places where you might try. It shouldn't be too costly either. Good luck, Spdloader
