Just looked last night--they're gone there too! Mike used to have those offered as his "loss leader" and sold them at cost as a customer appreciation item. Now it seems the only "appreciation" will be the cost of them as the current supply dries up!

That sucks eggs! Whatever happened with this "Nissan commitment" to the early cars and the parts we need that we'd heard was true??

Ha--- sometimes mine aren't even opposable.

@Captain Obvious Yep three tabs on the hatch lock face cap---same till 78. I'm looking at Jones Spring Company for small torsion springs for the dust shutter and Subaru locksets for missing pieces like the shutter itself. Jeez C.O.--- you can answer twice to my once. Carry on Capt'n! Very nice holder fixture you fabricated there Sir. I've only stabbed myself three times tonight trying to pry face cap edges with my small screwdriver. I'm giving it up for the eve. Too much blood loss.

@Patcon Nope those won't fit---the face caps are vehicle specific to a large degree---outside diameter, inner hole diameter and profile--so as to fit the cylinder housing properly. Early Subaru locks and components will interchange. The ASP numbers I posted above are the correct Datsun caps for 70 thru 78. I know what I need to order, just have to get a locksmith who will work with me.

I'm in total agreement and apologize if I was a bit huffy. This is the most beneficial community that I've ever found for sharing the experiences, knowledge and company of people like yourself, CO, Patcon, and quite frankly everyone here!

@Captain Obvious Sweet! Thanks for the excellent photos. Tickle that aging ganglion a little more about the springs. I'll search around, but a verified suitable donor source would be great info to have. Getting something for free is not a part of any of my plans. You're getting a little ahead of my intentions. I'm only discussing sourcing of tools, parts and methods of refurbishment.

Interesting to me that several of us are on the same wavelength or something---I'm on it too. I've been staring at several complete set of locks on my desk that are in need refurbishing for several weeks. Was going to take them to a locksmith but really wanted to do it myself. I had saved links from several suppliers of the face cap pliers. The Gator brand for professionals is expensive-- ~$200. This set from DHGate is much more reasonable, but is no doubt Chinese crap. https://www.dhgate.com/product/new-model-car-door-lock-face-cap-plier-removal/396796240.html May be worth it for the occasional use. New face caps and cylinders can be had from ASP (Auto Security Products), but you have to be a locksmith to order. I could probably get a local locksmith guy to order for me. I have a somewhat rare pinning kit ordered (A-16-100) in case wafers (P-16-141/144 or P-16-151/154) and springs are damaged. @Captain Obvious @jfa.series1 Has anyone sourced the dust shutters and associated springs? I have not been able to find those in any of the kits. ASP sells new face caps (P-16-204 for the door locks) (P-16-208 for the hatch lock), but they come 25 to the pack---not sure yet how much they'd cost. Here's a link to the .pdf of the complete catalogue, but I warn you---your scroll button will get a workout! http://www.carlocks.com/2008ASPCatalog.pdf Be happy you tinkerers!!

My 7/70 has the bracket and correct pedal. Any ideas on when these weren't installed from the factory?

Hoover's above post of the originals are the first I've ever seen of them, although I knew of their existence from the parts manuals. I've had my eyes on the step lights from a 280zx for some time. These are red---there was a clear version as well. While not as correct as these originals, they could be had for considerably less and should work just fine. They would mount in the locations shown but somewhat differently, in that they would screw into the door cards from the front, finished surface.
  11. Good stuff here! Interested to know, what were the charges were for the dry film coating of the throttle shafts? The EGR valve plating looks great! Did you have them plate the entire assembly or did you find a way to disassemble the diaphragm mounting portion from the cast iron base? Have any of the plated items with internal cavities (tubing, housings, etc.) exhibited bleed out from the plating process that discolored or degraded the surface plate finish? @Careless described this issue and his use of silicone and plugs to prevent it, as he had the plating done for a restoration he was doing.
  12. https://zcardepot.com/collections/gaskets/products/cylinder-head-gasket-oem-l28-280z-280zx Pricey by comparison, but it is OEM Nissan if that is what you really want.
  13. They apply to all S30's. They will work, although the plastic housing is somewhat different---your photo of the screw housing ( I assume from your 10/70 car) does not fully enclose the threaded portion of the adjusting screw---which I find interesting as my 7/70 had the fully enclosed type.
  14. Indeed! During the rebuild of my flattops I had the same issue. From a NOS set of power valves I purchased, I found that on one valve there where two screws that completely missed the intended holes---one of the screws penetrated and wrinkled the diaphragm. It had to be incorrectly assembled from the factory! No way it could function as intended. I replaced the diaphragm. Might be a pattern here? Wonderful work Rich, simply beautiful execution!
  15. Thanks for the clarification Rich! I was unaware of the change made to the manifold. My 73 is a 6/73 build date, so being fairly late it may have received the 74 exhaust manifold. Sure hope you have good results with your new air galleys, and yes, I agree that the air pump functioning should/ would indeed help reduce temperatures in the air galley. Those galleys have gotten crazy expensive, so it's no trivial pursuit to recondition used if at all possible.
  16. or 2 it would seem. Are those manifolds from a 73? Mine is a completely different casting---N33. This photo is from when I installed a new air galley. It isn't as easy to install as one would think. (you know that) One of the biggest disappointments I have had is that once the exhaust manifold with new air galley was installed on the engine, the air galley tube discolored badly soon afterward from the heat. I don't know of any way to prevent it from happening and have wondered several times if the plating has changed on the new tubes and just doesn't hold up as well. I do know it is more of a silver-ish cast than the yellow zinc plate you typically see on plated parts. Would re-plating a new one by sending it out to Sav-On Plating result in a more durable finish? Thoughts???

@Patcon So are you saying you don't have any good ones from those originally on the car?
  18. Zup posted a post in a topic in Build Threads
@Patcon On every car I removed them from they were painted the body color of the car. Both cars were original paint cars. Hadn't been re-sprayed. (They were too far gone for that) You can't really see them when the finisher panel is installed. Only the bottom edge of the clip is visible and it doesn't project beyond the finisher panel. Flush or slightly short, IIRC.
  19. Zup posted a post in a topic in Build Threads
@Patcon The clips are made of spring steel. You can tell the good ones from the bad ones by picking on them with your fingernail when they are in place. If they resonate with a high note they are good----low note they are cracked. Cracked ones tend to allow the finisher panel to pooch-out under vibrations. They just don't grip the finisher panel tightly enough. I have a spare set of the finisher clips for you. I need to get over to the storage building and dig them out. I'll send them once I find them.
