That water control valve may be the grodiest part on the entire car Rich! I'm enjoying your tear down with photos and eagerly anticipate the put back shots in the future. Jim D. "Zup"

Glad you got it fixed TonyTomB! I hadn't forgotten about you, but saw your post that you had ordered a new fuel pump and I was waiting to see what the outcome would be. Sounds like your back on the road. Hope you have a very happy and prosperous New Year as well! Jim D. "Zup"

Here's the discussion several of us had back in 2009 regarding the fuel pump manufacturers and dates: @Arne compiled 4 different manufacturers and a date range derived from members submissions
  4. S30Driver and I have resurrected a long (40+ year) dormant Datsun AM self seeking radio on this first day of 2017. This 4 minute video should fill in the details of this exceptionally exiteing event--- Many thanks and great gratitude to Jim 2 for his technical and production skills in making this happen! WOOO HOOO!! Here's the video-----
  5. I'm not quite sure of the question, so this may not be of any help, but--- The male half of the snaps are attached to the firewall insulator in the manner you describe with the screw stud, nut and Masonite circle arrangement. The female half attaches to the back of the carpet with the triangular tangs penetrating from the front of the carpet into the plate on the back side as you describe. Attached are photos similar to the required hardware for the snap assemblies. You will need to cut out your own circles from 1/8" Masonite. These are very close to those I retained for my 7/70 240z.
  6. That is the reason Steve gave me Charles. I don't think there is a liability-- as you said the bolts are the critical component for safety---the rubber is only a means to modulate applied forces for improved driving comfort. (primarily reduced vibration and sound transmission) I've never heard of an accident caused by deteriorated rack bushings or steering couplers---has anyone?? It could be there was a West Coast incident of the phenomena as reported on Facebook that I missed----
  7. I suggested @nix240z (http://www.240Zrubberparts.com) reproduce the steering rack bushings in the past. Maybe with the "sure to come" increasing demand for real rubber in instead of urethane he will reproduce them. The price point is certainly getting there. Maybe he will reconsider! Jim D. "Zup"

Hey Site--- You didn't say whether or not it was a rebuild of the master cylinder. My suspicion is that, if it was re-built, the cylinder bore is pitted and has chaffed the seals. Bite the bullet--- put an end to it and get a new master cylinder. Glad you weren't drifting a hairpin when it gave loose. We at CZCC kinda like you and want you around for some time to come. Brakes are pretty damned important

No one makes that hose in stainless steel. It is a crankcase to Valve cover hose and can be purchased from www.zcardepot.com as well as other vendors---even Ebay. https://zcardepot.com/engine/engine-rebuild/crankcase-pcv-vent-hose-oem-70-74.html While not technically correct for your 73 it will look and work as intended.

http://www.gibbsbrandlubricant.com/shop.htm $16.00 (US) a can from their website + $8.00 shipping---you Canadians really have a difficult time of it with exchange rate and shipping. I might add that a can will last a long time. Highly recommended!

Fortunate that you have one 7tooZ--- If you are planning to sell--in my opinion---YES! Leave the extreme act of "polishing" to the final owner, so it is his or her choice. These covers were not polished when new from the factory and to anyone doing a "correct" restoration of an early car the polished cover would be an "over restoration" that many, if not most, restorers would not deem acceptable. I would have it glass bead blasted to a satin finish and oil it with Gibb's Brand Oil. The oil will seal the finish so that it will not tarnish, water spot or stain from oils or fingerprints, etc. It is a very good final finish as is, but if someone wishes to polish the cover in the future it will not present any problems. Here is the 2400 cover on my 7/70 240Z restoration done using this method: I used the same method on my daily driver 73 240z restoration: And at 2 years use it looks pretty much the same, even after spraying a diluted mixture of Dawn detergent and water over the entire engine bay and hosing it off with a gentle shower from the garden hose. I've done this several times and it hasn't changed the appearance of the finish. If you choose this method, apply the Gibbs Brand with a saturated cloth several times, allowing an hour or so each time before wiping off the excess. Allow it to dry for a day or so then repeat. I might add that it is the same periodic application (once or twice a year) that will further enhance the sealing qualities of the oil finish. While this might not be what you ultimately chose to do, I thought I would offer it as a way to restore and preserve your valuable and rare cover with a minimal amount of effort. It has worked well for me. Jim D. "Zup"

Hello Courtney , I saw your post regarding the part you need and your planned conversion to the earlier carbs. I have the part and can send it to you---I'm in Arkansas. @zKars (Jim Karst) is in Alberta, Canada so it may be simpler for me to do than he. Jim and I know each other. I too have a 73 240z. I am currently running it with the earlier carbs. I purchased a rebuilt set from Ztherapy. They do excellent work, but they don't work on the flat top 73 carbs. Do you still have your flat top carb setup? Is it complete? The reason I ask---- I am converting back to the stock 73 setup with the flat top carbs. Everyone thinks I'm nuts---but that is how my car was originally set up and I am going back to it. I am particularly interested in finding the original thermostat housing and associated braided hoses that connect to the intake manifold. I have virtually everything else. If you are interested in parting with any or all of your original carb setup let me know and maybe we can do each other some good. It may help defray any expenses you are incurring in the changeover and help me get back to original. Attached is a photo of my current setup---I think this is where you want to be when you are done. If you want to go explore this further let me know---the part is yours regardless---I just need your mailing address. Respectfully, Jim Daniels "Zup"

Not saying it will fix your issue with your tranny---but it damn sure won't hurt!
  15. Hey Nicholas, Welcome---glad you are here! A good friend of mine, and fellow www.classiczcars.com member, S30driver (Jim Smirlies---one of the many Jims) contacted me about your problem. I may have a good ECU at the NWA south garage in storage. Jim has offered to do a test of the ECU on his 280z to ensure that it is functional. If your exploratory surgery of your ECU and the pending transistor transplant doesn't pan out, give me a shout and we'll try to get you going. Just post up the number from the case of the faulty ECU so we can check it against the one's we have in storage.
  16. Andy, Hello and congrats on your new purchase---very nice car! Bit of a bummer about the overheating issue, but it seems you got that sorted out o.k. Regarding the emissions--- Lots of owners remove them due to a non-operating condition and/or to clean up the engine bay for aesthetics. If your engine compartment is mostly original and you are intending to maintain or improve the originality for any items missing, then you should definitely keep the emissions. If that is not a major concern, then deleting the emissions will not have a negative effect---these cars do very well without the rudimentary systems used in those days. I too have a '73 and have chosen to try to faithfully maintain it's originality. That said, it is not easy, as mine came with the flat top carburetors which are more difficult to service and maintain. I intend to eventually re-install them, but In the interim I am running the 72 3 screw type carbs without emissions. Please let me know if you decide to ditch your emissions for whatever reason. Depending on condition, I would like to make you a reasonable offer that could help offset your expenses for whatever changes you make. Welcome to this great Z car site! I look forward to seeing more of your car and posts of your endeavors. Jim D. "Zup"

Thank you! It is this sort of thing that is always a very welcome post--- many times its the small non-part numbered parts that are difficult to source as suitable replacements.

Hi Mark-- I'm looking for the same switch/ sending unit. It activates an EGR solenoid on the exhaust manifold on my 73 240Z. Yours (if that is a photo of it) looks to be in otherwise good shape--are you sure you cannot re-solder the wires? Is your car a 73 240Zor is it a 74 260Z? Let me know if you find a source---I'll do the same for you. Zup
  19. Hi Matt-- Chances are your mast cable has broken. The mast in the retracted state shown above is a good sign that the mast itself is fine. You said you can hear the motor working---again, good news. AJMcForester did an excellent write up of replacing the mast cable with string trimmer line that I and others have followed and gotten success. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/electrical-s30/42445-antenna-mast-plastic-string-replacement.html Clean and lube everything inside the case, per the recommendations of that thread and others on the subject, while you have it out. Pretty sure you'll be a happy camper. The mast you have shown Is certainly correct for the early cars. (240Z--pointy tipped) The later mast had a different shape for the finial end---more cylindrical in shape and relatively flat at the top---and is what is usually seen on the 280z. (The mast tips are interchangeable--the final segment of the mast is threaded and the finial just unscrews from it)

No Blue, I am not the owner of 248 Believe me--- I would love to have had your car's littermate! Brian Holmberg---a good friend in Rogers, AR and formerly a regular poster on HybridZ----found the car in Texas a number of years ago. To my horror (and that of several others), he did a extremely nice, highly modified conversion. Brian completed the project and drove it for a short while but then his station in life changed with marriage, children, occupation, etc. and he put the car up for sale. It was purchased by a very knowledgeable Z enthusiast and now resides (with a small herd of other truly nice Z cars) in climate controlled splendor here in Northwest Arkansas. Brian literally gave me many parts from #248---with an original tire, steel wheel and that valve stem cap I gave Charlie Osborne among them.

Dear Blue, Thanks so much for the awesome photos of ZCON 16. A huge Congratulations!! to Hank and Jim K. on their victories. Our CZCC was superbly represented once again at the pinnacle annual exhibition by you fine gentlemen. How I wish I had been there in person to exchange high 5's and Huzzah's to each of you! So great to finally see faces and names associated to replace the ethers of my imagination. You are real people! ('cept for the Captain----he's on the tube all the time in those commercials)

Thanks for the good thoughts from all--- I really appreciate them. I did not add to this thread to detract or change the mood--only to help explain my absence and lack of posting. Please do carry on and share the enthusiasm ZCON 2016 deserves. .I will look in from time to time to see the banter.

I can't begin to tell you all how much I miss being with you there at ZCON2016 in Toronto. Captain, Blue, ZKars (whom I've never met, but think of as another brother)---- you simply must have a deliriously good time without us other "Jim's" As Jim2 (S30Driver) alluded, there have been a lot of obstacles to being there. My son, Jason, has been in a medically induced coma for 3 weeks following a complete physical collapse---- which (thankfully) occurred at the Sentara hospital in Charlottesville, VA. A dedicated team of nurses and physicians have managed to pull him through to the point of consciousness. He is better, but not out of the woods. God willing he may live, but the road to his recovery will be a long and difficult one. He is still in ICU with no timeline for "how long". I will return there next week to spend a few days with him. It is all that I can do. I've never felt so helpless in my life--- I know you understand. Jim D. "Zup"

Glad you are recovering from such a severe impact. You must have had a guardian Z angel. The Z can be fixed despite the damage---hopefully the Explorer driver has good insurance and you are treated fairly in the process of getting you and your Z back to good condition. Best Wishes! Jim D. "Zup"
