  1. Magnificent!
  2. @Mike Could you change the topic image of this thread?? The current image is a shot of my 73 exhaust manifold that I placed in the thread many pages ago and should not be the introductory photo to the wonderful archival material Rich has compiled. Being biased, I would suggest using this one--- which exemplifies in one photo the very essence of the thread title. "We're bringin' back the Flat Tops!" Thanking you muchly for any assistance with this request, I am!
  3. Agreed. Use a good paper filter and change it regularly when it needs it. We are going into the weeds with this, but for a good reason. Datsun didn't do things on these cars just for $hits and giggles. I want it there because the designers put it there---but I'm a little obsessive about all of it. Thanks to your inquiring mind and pursuit of solutions Capt'n there are workarounds for quite a few issues. I salute you sir!
  4. I agree totally with what Zspert said above. The local chrome shop is a dream to work with----perfect results with little to no worry. He doesn't do zinc plating. He does do pot metal restoration and plating as well! I've sent parts to be plated to Sav-On Plating in Phoenix, AZ---same place motorman7 uses. https://sav-onplating.com/ Fill a large USPS flat rate shipping box with as much "to be" plated material as you can--up to the 70 lbs. USPS weight limit for this type parcel. Separate the clear zinc parts from the yellow zinc parts into plastic ziplock bags. They do it in batches and at a flat rate. If you don't fill it up they won't charge you less. The items I sent did not weigh close to 70lbs.-- but the price was the same. I was advised of this before hand by Rich. I was in a hurry and needed stuff back before the Atlanta ZCON and it resulted in my batch costing more than it reasonably should for what it was. I should have asked more questions and received more answers from them before I did it but------- I had several large , bulky emissions and water line items to be plated and they must have done them differently. They came back nicely plated, although there was some discoloration in spots, usually from bleed out of the plating solutions from cavities within the part. (IE: tubing, diaphragm chambers, etc.) I did lose some small pieces from assemblies as Zspert stated above. (2 ball sockets that screwed onto the ends of two linkage rods, and the cotter keys, washers and springs from the throttle rods) In my experience, don't think of this as a hand work piece by piece process. I think they use a rotating barrel type plating method in a semi-automated cycle for screws, bolts, nuts and other smaller pieces, but that isn't well suited to window glass carriers, headlight buckets, etc. I guess you really should consult with Rich. He obviously gets great results and could advise you better than I regarding your specific requirements and especially concerning this particular plating company. @motorman7------our Captain needs your help!

Just a suggestion, please don't take it the wrong way--- You might condense your questions to one thread on your car project. People are following your efforts and are responding frequently with helpful information. The use of a new topic for each post or question isn't needed. You currently have 4 separate posts on the front page for what is essentially one project. It will be more coherent because people can read previous posts in the thread on your project and develop a more thorough understanding of the issues you face, as many times the issues are related in nature. As in the question above---I don't know from the reading of it which model/year car you are seeking information, and they are/can be different. In a dedicated thread you would only have to say it once. The FSM has clear diagrams and photos. There is an on-line version which can be downloaded from this site. I prefer hardcopy, as I am "old school" and like turning pages and bookmarking. I am saying this only to be helpful---not to scold or admonish.

I totally agree with grannyknot . In addition--- Opinions will differ, but I wipe my dashes down with Mothers Protectant often. It keeps them clean, has a UV inhibitor and is not shiny or greasy and smells really good too!
  7. A nonpareil knob there Capt'n! Regarding the HMB46W (flat top) fuel filters: In post #265 Rich said They do/did exist and are/were in the rebuild kit. Nissan Part No. 16010-N3302 Hitachi Kit No. AJ52-1904 A complete rebuild kit for both front and rear carbs. This is the only one I have found and I feel extremely fortunate to have it. Probably not many of these around now, but you west coast guys may have better luck finding a source out there in the "Land O' Plenty". There may be some in Australia and New Zealand, as the 260z was sold there for many more years than in the USA. At least now you have the part numbers to assist in your efforts to find them. Good Luck!
  8. Thanks for providing the link Mike!
  9. Just a meow next to kats' ROAR. If anyone out there has an interest in owning one for their Z---let me know.

Yessiree! I mean--- whoa-wait a minute---that isn't Friction Modified! You ought to be able to get A/C Delco Friction Modified transmission fluid from any GM dealer.

Thanks 7tooZ. It isn't my idea, only my observed results and belief. Credit goes to Chickenman, as he described it at length in this thread from 2015. He always has good advice---he was a Nissan certified tech for years I believe.
  13. New old stock Nissan tools with tool roll bag. New, vintage, still in original plastic bags---- not a reproduction. Not specific to the Z car alone, but available with many Datsun and early Nissan models as a Dealer available accessory item. Even includes a points file for you purists!

My testimonial-----I still stand by it. "Had a notchiness in 1 to 2 shifts on my low mileage trans. Decided to try Royal Purple as that was all I could find as "upgrade" locally. No change. Changed to Redline after ordering it from online as it was the one that was supposedly much better. No change. Enter A/C Delco Friction Modified-----kaaaazzing-----we have a winner!! ~$32.00 for three quarts----some of the best "bang for the buck" money I've spent on the Z. Notchiness is gone --all shifts are much smoother. Spend the money on it and be done with it for years to come-----enjoy the benefit with every shift!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AAAA++++"
  15. I like stories with happy endings! If you don't mind sharing, what was your source in Australia?

  17. I am relatively certain that Captain Obvious will see this and direct you to the appropriate thread discussing his teardown and refurbishment of the steering rack. He is a master knower of all things and his content is voluminous.

Probably just enough difference in the copy from the original so as to not rub suppliers fur the wrong way and get into infringements.

As a follow up, this morning I contacted Ryan at www.zcardepot.com and he confirmed to me that the wipers he is offering on the website are not OEM Nissan. He specifically mentions that in the listing by referring to them as "original style".They are a very close copy that he has sourced when the original wiper supply dried up. As of now these are the closest you can get to the visual appearance of the OEM wipers. He does have them in stock.

I agree that the Z car Depot blades are not for 77-78. They are for the 70-76 as their listing states.

From the ZCarDepot website header: "We carry OEM genuine Nissan and aftermarket parts. OEM parts will have "OEM" in the title." From the product description: "Wiper Blade Arm Wire Metal Original Style 240Z 260Z 280Z 70-76" I am not sure if this "original style" wiper blade is really available or not. Note that the description does not say "OEM" so I would think that it is from some aftermarket supplier. It is a very close copy of the original wiper from the looks of the image. Ryan's website allows you to place it in your cart. Here's a link to the wiper : https://zcardepot.com/collections/exterior/products/wiper-blade-arm-wire-metal-original-style-240z-260z-280z-70-76

I couldn't agree more grannyknot! I'm not deriding this excellent survivor, what a wonderfully preserved car, but there are a couple of things that I saw, so I will mention them. When I say "original" it is in the context of "correct" for a 240z car with this build date of 1971, not necessarily original TO THIS CAR. The positive cable to the battery does not appear original to me. I could be wrong but I've never seen an original red one---only black. The uniquely shaped and formed terminal end is hidden by the inspection lid in the photos, as a result it is unknown by observation whether it is truly an original red one. The battery hold down is new (you can see the tag) and the battery does not have it's proper cover and cap. Certainly not a big thing, but for $72 grand it would have been nice to see Steve Nixon's reproduction on it with proper disclosure that it is a faithfully correct reproduction. (Steve reproduces the battery terminals also I might add.) Madill, Oklahoma is not too terribly far from where I live in NW Arkansas. Sounds like a road trip in Zilver might be in the offing to see The240zGuild operation first hand. He has offered many nice cars through BringaTrailer and obviously knows his stuff. Possibly he could give me his professional appraisal of Zilver while I am there!
