Alex 240Z

I am going to look at a 71 240Z tomorrow and from the pictures I have received the engine bay has quite a bit of undercoating along the fire wall the battery tray and along some of the side fenders and frame rails is that normal it is a Florida car!!!! Is that something the dealer does it sure looks ugly!!!! I will making almost a five hour ride each way to look at the car any tips what to look for besides the obvious !!!!

John Alex and 56 years young have had a love affair with the Z since 20 years old and have owned to many to mention. Now a White 72 240Z daily driver and in the market for one really nice Z !!!!

Never replied to myself but it's strange !!! I new I saw that car some where it has been advertised in Hemmings Motor News for $9,700 wonder why the $1200 difference maybe it is on consignment ?????

Gas tank renew and Moyer Service are the professionals and I guess I was refering to their process !!!!!!!!!

Well I went over the guys house today and we got more rust out of the tank and he decided to mix muric acid with water 50/50 and let it do its work and we did it three times and the tank appeared somewhat cleaner but I agree he is pissing into the wind the two process's EScanlon suggested sounds good to me and he should do it the right way!!!! Next the metal fuel supply line is still clogged and we keep adding solutions of stripper and we are getting nowhere fast !!! If you know anyone with a metal fuel supply line for sale in Florida and a good place to get this fuel tank done please let me know !!!! Thanks for the help guys and I will keep you posted !!! Has anyone tried to boil out and seal their own gas tank !!! We Were thinking of using a solution of muriatic acid. One radiator shop quoted a price of $350.00 that seems a little high !!! Any where can you purchase a new tank !!!! Motosport Auto wants $700.00 for a used tank that they cannot guarentee.

What will it run you to have the new floor pans welded in? And are you using the prefab floor pan from msa or zeddfindings ? Reason why I ask trying to get an idea on how much the job will run me!!!

We have been trying to unclog the metal fuel supply line, near the fuel pump it is like thick molasys and near the tank it hardened like rubber !!! Still have no idea what these kids put down his tank !!!! Thanks for the help you have been walking us through this project step by step and you are even making me look like a genius !!!!!

Today we dropped the gas tank !!!! Vent hoses need to be replaced and fuel line hoses too !!!! Gas tank sending unit is shot and full of crud and the tank is full of crud besides rust !!! Where can we order these hoses and vent lines and what type of way should we clean out the tank !!! Finally we have to replace the metlal fuel supply line to the fuel pump (clogged too !!!) Has anyone ever done that while the car is complete together !!!! Help !!!!!!

I looked at the car three weeks ago and have been helping the owner with it since and up to maybe one week ago I was not aware of the fuel problem. If kinfish did not set me straight I would have inherited some problems. The site has been very helpful and I just love being around Z cars and the more you are under the hood the more you learn !!!!

They are original steel rims not the mags !!!!! But I will definitely search the site !!!!!

Some kids with nothing better to do put something down the tank and it seems like some type of tary substance !!!!! We will try to do what you suggested and I will keep you posted on the progress !!!! Just think I almost bought this car, thanks kinfish for the heads up !!!!!!!

I believe stock rims are 5 1/2" what sized tires can be used on these rims can 205/14 be used and what is the best looking tires to make it look stock with the stock hub cap and for good road performance.

You were correct when we put gas in a jar on the suction side of fuel pump the car ran ! The metal fuel lines are definitely gunked up what is our next step how do we clear these lines back to the gas tank !!!!! It was good to hear the car run !!!! Thanks for the help !!!!

Kinfish you definitely have the right car and you definitely set me straight, thanks for the advice !!! Please tell me what exactly you feel it needs the body looked fine, dash like new, interior I felt I could do! bumpers would have to be redone !! Let me put the word out I am definitely looking for another Z !!!! What do you think it would cost to get this one into shape !!!!!

I have been looking at this 72 Presimene red 240Z it looks like it has aapx 38,000 miles body is excellent floor pans and frame rails excellent he did go nuts with the undercoating in engine bay he is the original owner. White interior plastic trim discolored. We took of the damper and checked carbs and one was stuck but with a little coaxing we got the piston to move freely and added a some oil to both carbs and the move fine. Problem there must be some type of vapor lock because we can not get gas to the carbs we added 5 gallons to the tank and I would say the car probably has not run in a while. I am pretty excited about this find !!!!! I got the Z fever

He is still trying to make up his mind on your offer or waiting for a better offer. I usually find that the people with money are the hardest to bargain with thats why they have money. Good luck by the way what is the reserve price?

Enjoyed looking at the pictures of 27th Z and I see you got some work cut out for you at least the glass looks good and the battery box looks better then a lot that I have seen and will definetly make the trip to see them when they are both complete. By the way is 26th Z is the picture on your avatar !!!!

How long will the restoration of 27th Z take and I sure wish I knew of a good restoration guy especially someone to do my frame rails and floor pans on the east coast of Florida !!! I know I would like to see pictures of 27th Z in progress!!!! Enjoy the restoration and then the ride !!!!!

Good luck with #27 !!! How much do you think this restoration will run and I know if one has to ask they cannot afford it !!! 26&27 sounds good to me !!!

I was truly shocked to hear of the loss of one of our members he will be truly missed and my prayers are with his loved ones.
