Transmission advice
Yeah, I drove it home (about 12 miles) from the shop after I picked it up. It shifted, but not smoothly. The bolt I am looking at has a square head about 1/2 inch. This is the correct part, right? I see the side one, but on the bottom all I see are threads. One thing got me thinking - on my way out of the shop when I dropped it off, I saw another Z heading in the direction of the shop - probably a coincidence I rarely see those around here - it got me all paranoid after the malfuctions on my Z after the visit to the shop.

Transmission advice
Well, the drain plug is missing on the bottom of the transmission! Any idea where to get one? I noticed the symptoms right after I took my Z to a repair shop for some welding underneath. The one on the side is still there.

My '70 240z
It looks a little different now. I am currently styling it like an early Japanese model (flares and fender mounted mirrors).

Transmission advice
Thanks alot! I'm not really much of a mechanic (yet!) but I'm learning all the time -- can you tell me how to check this? I do have 2 Z shop manuals.

Transmission advice
When I push in the clutch on my 70 240 (with a 78 transmission) its impossible to shift into gear (reverse or 1st), unless I let the engine run for a few minutes, in neutral. Then I can shift but its difficult. After a little driving it shifts well, but whenever I start i go through this process. What's wrong and what should I do?

Backfiring on decelleration
Yes, there's an ABV. Also, these backfires are powerful, almost as loud as a shotgun.

Fender mounted mirrors
I love the fender mounted mirrors I see on old Fairladies. (see http://www5a.biglobe.ne.jp/~satotats/zhp/zgazou/catalog.htm) I found some mirrors that fit the bill in the JC Whitney catalog, but they say 'clamp on' style. What does this mean? Thanks. Here's my ride (looks a little different now) - it's a '70 with a '75 engine

Backfiring on decelleration
If I let up on the gas, doing 60 or more mph, the car (70z with a 75 l28) backfires. I adjusted the carbs and this reduced, but did not eliminate, the problem. Suggestions? Thanks.

Ziebart, undercoat or what?
Thanks for the advice, as well as the advice on the engine. Where is Woodstock VA? While I'm on the subject, do you know any good shops that can help me with the engine? Regarding undercoating, should I do just the wheel wells? Z's get alot rust, well I guess you know that better than I do, so, why not coat the floor pans and other places? I think I like the bedliner option. I think I'll just use plain black even though the color is 'black current pearl'. Do you see any potential issues there if the color is not exact? Thanks again! Erik

Ziebart, undercoat or what?
I own a '70 Z that was stripped and restored, no rust. It was a west coast car, but now I own it in the east where Z's rust. I am thinking about undercoating it with off the shelf undercoating, or, having it professionally ziebarted. Some people tell me I don't need to do either. Opinions?

Undercoating, Ziebart, or nothing?
I have a 240z that was stripped and rebuilt (rust free) on the west coast. Now I have it, in Virginia where Z's rust. I have thought about spraying it with off the shelf undercoating, or having a professional ziebart job, but most people tell me I dont need to. What are your opinions? And why?

'70 L24 : Rebuild or replace?
I own a 70z (6/70 manufacture date) in very good shape, except the engine uses alot of oil. High miles, but the odometer is not actual. I am weighing the pros and cons of rebuilding this engine, or replacing it with a Jasper remanufactured engine. I'm interested in all your opinions! I lean towards the Jasper option because of the 36 month, 72 K mile warranty. Thanks, Erik:confused:

Wanted - a near perfect 1970 Z
Here's a better pic. I am not really looking to sell my Z, but I noticed you live in Richmond. I live just outside of Richmond (Goochland) and have a very nice 240z (1970, date of manufacture 06/70) I'd love to show you! It's in very good shape and has been restored, (no rust) -- but it needs the following: - license plate lamp - choke cable and lever - tachometer - dash lights - window washer I'm looking at getting it rust proofed. It uses some oil.
