Optima also carries a reversed pole battery. For what its worth. Nice suggestion E!
  2. Mohammed, I installed the Tokico Illuminas in my wife's 240Z. I thought the adjustability would be great. We are riding on the softest setting and I still believe it was a mistake. I will probably replace them, when I find the time, and use them on my car since it isn't going to be a daily driver. Good luck! BTW Beandip, you'll have to ride in your own car for awhile. LOLLOL
  3. Gary, We should look at it together! I should be done with your tools mid saturday. B

A night early, but was afraid you'd be too drunk tomorrow to log in! LOL But seriously you're a good pal. All the best on your day. BTW, do you have to share it with Jeannie since it is also Valentines Day? Bummer dude!
  5. Dave, You probably have already thought of this, but any car '75 or newer will need to be DEQ'd (emission tested here in the Portland area). You might find a 240 or 260Z that has had the fuel injection added. Maybe of no concern to you, but I thought I'd mention it. Good luck!

Welcome Jacob, Nice to have you in the group. Can't wait to see pictures of your ride. Its always great to see the progress as well.
  7. Just a figure of speech, and apparently a bad one in this context or any other. Sorry, no offense intended! I'm not a mean person, just not very smart.
  8. Just a figure if speech. Nothing implied! I'm just not as eloquent:tapemouth as ES. I also don't type as well or fast. If I'd responded after ES, I'd probably said "What he said". Either way doesn't add much substance, does it?
  9. Screw em if they can't take a joke! I think they should have nothing but respect for a guy with limitations doing what he wants to do. More power to him!!!!
  10. Arne, If you've found your parts car, great!. But, if not, PM Beandip as there is a early '71 with 4 spd being parted very soon. We have gotten dibs on a few parts, but you could get a price on the wiring. At least as he pulls the dash, he could get you a P/N of the harness. Best of Luck!
  11. Hey Steve, Don't get down on yourself. The only way to know for sure what you are going to get is to either, pull it out of a car that is running and swap it in directly or buy a new gear set (ouch, about $900 is my understanding). I have been on the lookout for 4.11 R180 but haven't found one yet. I'd be in the same boat as you. I'd talk to a tranny guy, especially if you know and trust someone. Get a price and an idea if it will help. Keep us informed!!!
  12. Nice explanation Jon!
  13. I think Kens observation is pretty typical. You can have 150k miles and still see the hone marks on the cylinder walls. The tolerances on these old engines are pretty loose by todays standards. I have a question form all this talk of putting a 280 crank and rods on an L24 block. Wouldn't you need to do the extra balancing work the same as for a stroker. If you are trying to throw around that extra length at higher 240 type RPMs, I would think the same kind of machine work would be involved as putting the LD28 crank in a L28 block. Please feel free to explain the error in my logic. Are the rods shorter?
  14. I spoke to a Datsun mechanic about this very topic this week. I had heard that very thing, about them whining since they are turning backwards. He says that is BS. He says the problem is that they get set up slightly differently from the way they wore in and they make noise. I happened to ride in a friends car that Beandip was driving today. It has a 4.11 R180 from a 4x4 and no noise. I don't think Beandip noticed anything either. How bout it Beandip?? I know this is all hearsay, but this guy has a solid reputation. Escanlon uses this guy also. But then, who says Scanlon knows anything. Just Kidding, E!
  15. Okay Minnesota (no offense Jared), That is one cool pic of a very nice 280Z. My compliments. Always had a soft spot in my heart for a blue Zee!
  16. FYI, The R does stand for "Rear". If you can read it, the attached pic shows my front Tokico spring. It reads an "F" after the part number. Hope this helps! I believe Tokico says their springs lower the car 1" from stock, but from what Carl Beck has mentioned, the US spec spring did leave the front somewhat higher than the back. That is why Courtesy Nissan is now selling Euro spec springs. (Mine arrived today BTW!) Cheers!
  17. Hey Dave, I understand your effort towards customer service, and I appreciate it, but really, no worries! BR
  18. Possibly the tube(s) that the smog pump uses to pump air into the exhaust manifold. Man, those were a b!t@h to get out of mine. The only stock part, I couldn't keep. Had to cut them in pieces because of the heat in the exhaust manifold. Just a thought.

PM'd Mike and Vic. Hopefully they see this soon. Guess MM might as well post the daylights out us for now. The threads will probably be gone tomorrow.

I suppose that's why the firewall has the VIN stamped into it. Badges can be moved from vehicle to vehicle. We have at least a couple of members here that have non-matching badges on cars. Maybe one of those was returned to the seller, but there is one local to me that has this difficult situation. Title VIN does match the badgesm but not the firewall stamp. Not sure what can be done with a car like that. Strip and cut up? Drive and hope you never have any trouble? Don't think I'd try to sell and be accused of fraud down the road. I guess the U-pull-it yards don't really check that close, but they do have a paper trail!

E, Don't you wish it was as easy to switch them on the car as it is on your PC? I really like the color accents inside the slots, like on my wife's Z. Polishing makes all the difference. Shine them up good and get them clear coated. Hope this picture comes trhu, 1st try at it.
  22. Hi Kenny, Sorry I cannot help you with the value of the intake, but I can tell you that the intake was the preferred brand to have. It went out of production some years ago and the Arizona Z version is just that, a version of the BS. It is the best one currently available today via retail. I would think that the BS is the most valuable used holley style intake out there. I would guess it is worth $250, but I am not a 4 barrel guy. A friend has one and it is a very strong car. To me it seems the concept is lacking, but in the Portland area there are folks, including 2 Z specialists, that are solidly in favor of this approach. As I said, my buddies car is very strong! Good luck. BTW, please check your PM as I have a request of you.

I'm no expert with the SU's but it sounds like your choke mechanism sticks or one of your cables is not adjusted correctly. See if the cable will fully open AND close each choke. After you close the choke, try pushing up on the choke by hand to see if it closes further by hand. I doubt it is the closing since it is under choke that you have the problem. You might look at these sites; http://sw-em.com/su_carbs.htm http://www.zparts.com/zptech/articles/mal_land/ml_sucarb2/images4/SUcarb_111601d.htm Sure hope you find what you need!
