Ed, That is one beautiful car. I am really envious. My cars are nice, but you are really out of my league. I hope to see it on the road some day. Good Job!
  2. Can anyone help me to understand what year and model (2+2, turbo, N/A, etc) cars came with what block casting and head? I thought I'd seen that info somewhere, but have been looking for days with no luck. Is there a matrix or something already put together. I bought a '73 AT 240Z and thought I'd find a donor car since I want an L28 and a 5spd. I will probably want a lower rear end also. I may build a stroker motor and the consensis seems to be the F54 block is the ticket. I'm not sure which head or what year cars have most of the parts I'd want. An 81-83 NA 5spd would have the tranny and rear end, but I'm not sure about the block and head. Well, I'm rambling so, if you can help, I will really appreciate it.
  3. Hi Bob, I own 2 '73 240's, 1 4spd and 1 AT. Both have a splash pan with the 8mm head. I am missing many of the screws and all but one sheared off while removing to do suspension/steering work. I don't really have a point to all of this, but I thought you might like to know (late as it is).

I am interested in building a motor for a 240Z. I have an opportunity at a LD28 crank, but not sure if that is the right way to go. I am just looking for a hot street car that I can hill climb or AutoX on the occasional Z event. Do you think a stoker motor is the way to go? I'd like a motor with a lower power band, say 3000-6000 RPM powerband and good pull in that range. Not wanting to spend $5k on building the motor. Any comments?

As for me, I do like low VIN #'s, but I differ from 26th because I would have a hard time not keeping it stock. A later series 1 would be easier to modify. But I already own a stock '73 that my wife is fortunate enough to drive every day. My purpose in looking for a 2nd 240Z was to try and coax as much torque and power from her as I can without going V8. This car may have put me in over my head. I think a 5 year project is more than I can handle since I work out of town most of the time. So, I guess this isn't the car from me. I have 2 other options today, an automatic that I'd need to convert to a 5 spd along with the other mods, and a car that is pretty much done but in a way that I like alot. I just have not found the car that screams, "here I am, your car". So thanks for all the input. BTW, his asking price was $3k. If I'd have gotten it for $1500, I'd be arranging shipping. P.S. Hey XRAY, if your photo was a little closer, I'd have thought we used the same avitar. Cheers all Bryan

I need a little help! What does this car sound like it is worth on todays market. Seller is asking too much, of course, but I'm not sure what my max should be. 1970 240Z, VIN is about #490. Total restoration needed. Solid except for both floor pans are rusted and very slight rust under battery tray. Straight for the most part. All there except some interior covers for the gas recovery tank and antenna. All interior is shot, including dash and console. Numbers matching, doors and windows open and close well. Not running but engine is free and it steers and rolls well. All chrome is straight but needs re-chroming. AC all there. 4 spd fan blades were replaced with the later plastic blades. E31 head appears to have never been milled. Your advice is appreciated. A good project car in my opinion but would take me years to complete. Bryan
  7. I personally, am inspired by the red plastic air bag on the passenger side. I wonder if I can find one in burgandy to go with my car? If I were in the market for a 280, I'd have to wonder how much extra I'd have to pay if he vacuumed the carpet.
  8. The microfiche CD has come in very handy for me. I have used it when buying parts on the secondary market, to sort out such things as suspension components when trying to reassemble and others. For the money it has paid for itself many times over. Bryan
  9. Hi Eric, Great Pix. They are appreciated. looked like lots of fun. Thx, Bryan
  10. You know I just got most of the linkages as replacements. If I know the year. I'll check the p/n and send you my old one which is fine. Otherwise, try calling Z-Therapy and see if he will sell you one. He is not a parts house, but is really helpful. My car is a '73, but I have the 3 screw Z-Therapy round tops on it. So the linkage is probably what you are looking for. Send me a PM. Bryan
  11. The wife has the car at work, but I'll look tonight and let you know if no-one else has responded. Bryan

Saro, You might want to judge your profile height by your speedo. Keeping the overall height close to factory, means you won't have to have your speedo recalibrated. Just a thought.

Hi Andrea, Welcome to Z world! You won't regret having a classic Z car and you'll be proud of every hour of work you put into it. If you are interested in the Z therapy tape on SU carbs, I'll sell you mine. If you are sure about the 4 barrel conversion, it seems to me that I have seen a manifold or to sitting around Steve's shop (Z Therapy shop). I'd bet he'd love to sell you the manifold at a deal since he is a confirmed SU advocate. I am very new to the Z world myself and I could be wrong, but my understanding of the problem with the 4 barrel is that the single carb doesn't provide consistant mixture to each cylinder. 2 cylinders will be too lean and 2 will be too rich. You will have to compromise to find the place where you get the best preformance. You may experience some knocking, pinging or ? The SUs are basically tuned since the 2 carbs supply 3 cylinders each rather than 6 for the one carb. If you convert, keep all of your old parts as you may want them later. The carbs, manifolds and linkages will bring you a few bucks now, but what a drag if you want them back. But, as long as you are having fun, everything is good. Best of luck.
  25. Dogma, If you take the plates into the DMV office they will examine them, photo copy them, then submit the paperwork. It will take the Salem office about 6 weeks to approve them. It cost me about $175, but I also was transferring the title. Send me an e-mail directy if you need a source for blue plates. Bryan
