Unless you have head work done and more than a mild cam, you are gaining very little by going to a header. Unless of course you just prefer headers. Why not just put a better flowing muffler, cat on her.
  2. You may want to e-mail Jock Rhodes. jock@billsdatsun.com He has a header that is good for a stock L24, at least that is what I've heard. He is knowledgable and you may want to talk to him. I don't know the price. All I have seen is painted, but I'm sure he or you can get it coated. I personally prefer the ceramic coatings. They have been very resilient.
  3. I have not checked their site for you, but www.books4cars.com has had many in the past.

My formerly owned '82 ZX, of which I still own the motor, distributor and module has the e12-92 on it. Hope this helps. BTW, I plan on replacing it with the e12-80 distributor that is on my L24 motor once it goes in.

Nice to meet you Tristan. Congratulations Will. Hope you all get plenty of sleep.
  7. I have both the Tolkico setup (installed) and the Euro spec (not yet installed). As Arne has said, the Euro spec need to be cut down. The Euro spec springs are designed to give you a stock ride quality, but to keep the front height equal to the rear. The US springs came stock, with the front of the car riding slightly higher than the rear. As to the quality, they both are quality. There are four of us with them, up here in the NW that chat quite a bit. One set is installed. Arne will be next. Mine will come down the road. Most of the the forum members here that have ridden in our burgandy car say that it is too stiff of ride for their taste. As a cruiser, I'd have to agree. That is why I am planning to move them to my other car, and put the Euro specs in. I love the ride height, but I get some tire rub on the front left in one spot. Unfortunately, that spot is when backing out of my driveway and cranking the wheel hard left. Now, my caster is off about a degree, but the stock suspension has no adjustment. I bought winter tires for it last year, and they really rubbed. Had to take them back. Too much tread height. So, buy struts and springs according to the use you forsee for your car. If you are going to AutoX, then the Tokicos are probably great. Otherwise, be aware of the joints on a bridge and so on. They can jar your kidneys.
  8. With the stock rear end, the Z 5 spd should have closer gear ratios. The ZX has a taller 5th so would be better with a lower geared rear end.

I think that Pentatech used to make alarms. But I was never an installer.
  10. Must have been too large. Try this pic.
  11. I am getting an error, trying to attach a picture. PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the pic.
  12. Last year I was experiencing cold starting issues and a few idle issues when warm. I just could not figure it out. I thought it was the carbs. Turned out the valves were too tight. After they were adjusted properly, the cold start was normal, the idle was normal. I was looking in the wrong place because I couldn't diagnose it correctly.
  13. I'd recommend getting the "Just SUs" DVD from Z Therapy, or finding someone who knows the carbs. A complete tune up is advised. You should adjust your valves before you get the carbs in order. You may just find that the valve adjust will cure your cold starting all by itself. Good Luck!

Your locksmith should be able to rekey the new cylinder to use the same old key. I had this done when the ignition cylinder failed last year. My old originals are retired and I use the new "no-class" for daily use. That is, if they were getting daily use these days.
  15. I have the Tokico springs and Illumina struts on one of my cars. It has proven too harsh for most of my friends tastes, that like to drive their cars around town and on back highways. Since these are in my wife's car, I plan on swapping them out and putting them in my car. Her's will get the Euro springs that Courtesy Nissan sells and the KYB struts. That combo has been used successfully by Beandip and a few of us in the NW US plan on following suit. I am new to this discussion, but I don't see how you figure the Tokico springs are progressive. You'd be able to see it in the coil, wouldn't you? Mine are 1 to 1-1/2 year old and they are the same P/N you all have been mentioning. Respectfully,

Nice arse Arne. Er, did I say that out loud?
  17. More of a baseball fan really. Allegences alter from time to time. Always a soft spot for the Cubbies. I think the '70 needed an awful lot of work. But that and a '70 parts car, which I could get ahold of cheap, and you could have had a very inexpensive project. With the salvage title, it leaves an opening to really bastardize it. I am one of those that think a series one car is better off stock. Thats why I ended up with an extra '73. But, to each his own!
  18. ~z~, The higher the number, the lower the ratio. Just like in the transmission, when you move to a taller gear the ratio moves lower. Your 4th gear should be 1:1. Over drive is when you get below 1:1, or something like 1:.78. Think of it as for each revolution of the engine the tires move fewer revs. As you move up in gears, the ratio gets closer to 1:1. The engine spins slower and the tires spin faster. Hope that is more clear. Somehow, I don't think so. Good luck.
  19. Hi Alan, I must say that seeing the pix has been a real treat. Thanks for posting them. I admire you (not for the car, that goes without saying) for your historical work and knowledge of these cars I love so much. Having some recognition is well deserved. Cheers!

The dash is out of one of my cars, and I just took a quick look. 11 total lamps. Speedo has 4, tach has 4, and each center guage has 1. I was trying to brighten my guages, so I disassembled each one and painted them the brightest white I could find. This solution would have been much easier. I think I am going to add these for the best results. Anyone need some new bulbs out of the package?

Jim, The P/N you name is listed as 08/'75 through '78. There is also 24023-N4200 that runs from 12/'74 - 07/'75 and it also preceeded the N4201 for the later 280Z. I don't find a 260Z console harness listed at all.
