RB26dett in the 350z
No one ever said anything bad against the RB engine itself, only against putting it in a 350. First of all, I doubt it would even fit considering the amount of room one takes up and the fabrication required to get it under the hood of a an S30 car. After seeing how cramped the V-6 is under the hood of the 350, I don't see how a tall engine like the RB would fit under the hood. Those 350's don't have a lot of room to spare with the V-6 in there, and that is a pretty compact engine in itself. Second, it sounds like whoever was attempting the swap didn't think it out too clearly as to the amount of work and money it was going to take. And it sure isn't going to whup up on anyone's car after it was repo'd, possibly in pieces.....:cross-eye

Something I've never seen before
I've been watching the model kits on Ebay as well. Although, I'm getting too impatient and shaky to do one the way it should be assembled.......:disappoin I've been watching the 1/12 Tamiya kits to put away, but, wow, the prices on them are pretty high, even higher than the Kyosho die-casts I just got. I guess I'd rather collect the die-cast, no work required and I can spend the time on the ones in the shop that need my attention more than a plastic model. I was surprised at the Roadster model kit, as I'd never seen one before.

Oil comming out of spark plugs????
The only way to know for sure where the problem might be would be to do a compression leakdown test. A compression test doesn't tell the whole story. During a leak down test, compressed air is pumped into the cylinder, and wherever the air is escaping will tell you where your problem lies. Bad valve seals will end up letting the air escape into the valve cover as well as it will if it is escaping past the rings. To be absolutely sure of your engines condition, you ought to do a leakdown test after you replace the valve seals, since the seal replacement is the easiest and cheapest to do. Also, the seals don't require a large amount of teardown, so it would be the first thing I would try. Once the seals are replaced, the only other places you would lose pressure during a leak down test would be either the rings or the valves or seats themselves.

240z BRE rear spoiler
If you are talking about the 3 piece spoiler that is just a bit taller than the BRE style, they have been out of production for some time now. I'm not sure when, but they disappeared a while ago from all the suppliers.:disappoin Darn shame as they were always one of my favorites. I've got the end pieces of the one I took of the 280 I had, but can't seem to find the center piece.:disappoin

Something I've never seen before
With all the recent interest (mine included) in die cast Z models and plastic model kits, I happened to see these on Ebay today. I don't remember ever seeing any Roadster model kits before, but here's two on Ebay right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3175548041&category=1190 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3175558584&category=2581

trivia
Way back in the early days of the show, Radar was sending a Jeep home piece by piece, but they never told whether he got the whole thing there or not. He did send some animals home to live on his mothers farm. BJ's and Hawkey's only true fight, which led to fists, was when Radar was discharged and met BJ's wife Peg. His daughter Erin called Radar "Daddy" and BJ went on a drinking binge and punched Hawkeye. Hmm, Col. Flagg still had me stumped... Edward maybe? Or, was Sydney at the camp for Klinger's and Soon Lee's wedding before they all went home? Hmm?

Boxers...
Of course, every individual dog is different, but boxers can be a handful... A friend of mine has one, which, when she was a pup was cute but not a "cuddly" dog. She was always bouncing around the room from one person to the next. She once used the back of the sofa as a launching pad to hurl herself half way into the kitchen, aimed directly at my chest....:cross-eye Nuttin worse than a flying 80lb+ dog.... Even at almost 8 years old, she's a handful, and still a bit on the hyperactive side.

trivia
Err, you might want to ask a few less questions at a time....:cross-eye Get's kinda hard to answer that many at once. 1. Sergeant Zale. 2. Crab Apple Cove, ME 3. Radar didn't have a sister. It was just his mother, his uncle Ed and him. 4. Hawkeye went a bit nuts, due to the woman on the bus smothering her child. 5. Got me on that one... but give me a day to think about it. 6. Horse Hockey 7. His name? Sherman T. Potter 8. Frank Burns 9. animal, think it was a lamb? the Greeks brought it and they made one out of Spam, after they got everyone drunk on Ouzo (sp?) 10. got me again, memory fade.... 11. His horse Sophie 12. Jumped in the Foxhole BJ filled with water 13. which time? they had a couple.... 14. Boston snob, Chief of Thoracic surgery at Boston General 15. record player

trivia
Holy snit...talk about bringing back memories of the "good old days"... Rat Patrol, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, those were some of my favorite shows when I was a kid... Used to sit on my Dad's lap and watch Rat Patrol...:cross-eye Didn't he used to wear what would be consider an "Aussie" hat with one side flipped up? Now, if you want to talk MASH trivia I might have a chance... I haven't forgotten things from that "era" yet...:stupid:

What should I do?
Make sure you disconnect the coil wire when you are turning it over to get oil pressure up, you don't want it to fire off until you are sure there is oil pressure, and that the oil has had a chance to circulate a little.

Original wheels, hubcaps, and tires
Think they might be "period" correct tires, but they are too big to be factory tires as far as I know. They look like the same tread pattern as the originals though, so, they may have been changed shortly after the car was purchased. I guess it's also possible the dealer put them on the car as an "upgrade" when it was new. I'd be happy to have just those hubcaps....:devious:

changing from a 180 to a R-200 in my '73
Yup, you'll need the lower transverse link as the 280 has a curve in it to clear the rear diff cover.

Fantastic deal
Hmm, guess we know where that Skyline went..... I think Victor posted a link to that one when it was for sale. http://www.geocities.com/coolin550/kpgc110.html I like his Z better before the G-nose....at least he picked a good color for it.:devious:

Not bad Z on Ebay
I almost think I'd go for this one instead, with a 3200 Buy It Now it seems like a better deal. If the floor pans and the rest of the undercarriage are as clean as the T/C rod area of the inner fenders, this one looks to be in fine shape. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2460073848&category=6187 I have a feeling the other car is going to end up going for a lot more than 3200. The only thing that got my attention on that one is the fact the engine bay doesn't quite match the color of the rest of the car, perhaps it's just the camera or the lighting, but it almost looks like the car might have been orange originally. The engine bay looks pretty sad compared to the rest of the car, it definately isn't as clean as I would expect judging by the rest of the exterior anyways.

OK, I'm mad now......
I'd sure like to just take a test drive in one...:devious: without a salesman of course..... I drove one of the "lesser" V-10's in a 4x4 3/4 ton pickup a few years ago, and what a rush that was. Quiet, had as much torque as the Cummins diesel I had at the time, and everything happened twice as fast. Stick your foot in it, and if you weren't watching the tach, you'd run that thing up to redline in not time at all. Shame they discontinued the iron block V-10.:disappoin

Easiest way to remove hardcore jute adhesive?
I know that some people have just used a wire wheel on a grinder, but that does make a mess. You could try those Sotch-Brite wheels on a grinder as well. It's either a mess with acetone or some other thinner such as laquer thinner, or a dusty mess with a grinder, or the putty knife. There's really no easy, no-mess solution.

Air Box color...
Here's one that still has the flat tops.... the rest of the car doesn't look so good either... :disappoin http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2459387673&category=6187 I don't know if I'm correct in my "arse-umption" here, but I think the early 260's with the small 73 type bumpers may have all had the orange air cleaners that were the same as the 73 air cleaners. Perhaps the air cleaner color changed when they put the large 280 style bumpers on. Notice, this car has the late bumpers and a "blue-ish" air cleaner.

Car Collection Terminology and Standards
Tell ya what Dave, I've got a couple complete L-24's sitting here with E-88 heads if you want to trade that L-28....:devious: I know one is in pretty good shape as it came out of a daily driver a few years ago. I'll even let ya keep the E-31 head since I've already got enough of them.

Lean, rich, or draw?
The first thing I would do is find another mechanic if you can't do it yourself. He's half right, there are simple repairs, just no simple ways to diagnose what you need to do. Throwing parts at it is more than likely only going to cost you more than you need to spend. If you don't have a Factory Service Manual to try the troubleshooting guide in it, try starting with the basics like tune-up, timing, perhaps having the coil and ignition control module on the distributor tested. Most of us here have limited experience with FI, and even fewer have Turbo FI experience. You might try posting the question over on another web-site such as www.300zxclub.com or www.zdriver.com in their 280ZX forums for a more informed opinion.

Air Box color...
Well, yes and no.....:cross-eye I found this auction to be some interesting reading. This guy pretty much tells it like it is. It's a shame not everyone describes their car like this guy. Nice car too, even if it is an auto. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2459146881&category=6187 Then there's one bleow it listed as a 70, which, according to the VIN is an 11/70 build date. More than likely titled as a 71, but yet he lists it as a 70. So, is he trying to fool someone or just doesn't know any better?

Air Box color...
As far as I know, the blue air cleaners are from 260's. All the air cleaners up to 73 were orange. If I'm not mistaken, the 260 air cleaners were the same color as the later 280 air cleaners, but perhaps it's a little different shade. I think I know which car you are referring to, isn't that the 73 with the round top carbs and a blue air cleaner being advertised as "all original"?

Cold idle problems--'77 280
Take a look in this thread and you will find a PDF version of the troubleshooting manual. I haven't looked through it yet, but it should help you with some places to look to find your problem. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=73244#post73244 Sounds to me like your problem is probably in the thermotime switch, air or water temperature switch, or the cold start valve. In other words, you're not getting the fuel enrichment you need on cold start up.

How to "unplug" sidemarkers?
The side marker lights on the front fenders and the rear quarters have a long pigtail on them, with simple bullet style connectors. These are a simple, just take the 2 screws out of the mounting frame, and pull the light out. The pigtail is long enough you can pull on both ends of the wire without worrying about pulling something loose that shouldn't be. The rest of the wiring harness is a little tougher to deal with, as you just have to be a little more careful when you try to pull the connectors apart. There's no reason to never tamper with a harness or the connectors, just be careful when you try to unplug the connectors.

WTB rear right hardline
I think just about anything VB or MSA can get, Chloe can get as well. And you can't beat her prices or her service.:classic: She can also get a lot of things very few places can supply anymore.
