My H.I.D.'s
Ohhh Darbji... I'm not sold on the HID thing. Unless you've got plans to add a body kit or an aluminum wing or something else sort of ultra-modern metro-chic they just ain't gonna look right to me. I'm glad you like it though... was this Kharma's idea or yours? My 2 cents. 'Love you dear, -Matt

1975 datsun 280z 2+2 won't start
Good idea. Get an extra valve cover and throw it at the engine as hard as you can. The added 'whack' should whip it into shape. :stupid:

Major problems!!!!!
The voltage thing, to me, speaks alternator. I had this problem on my '76, it ended up just being my voltage regulator (however, on the '83 model the voltage regulator and alternator are together in one unit, so to replace one is to replace the other) In terms of a pulsing idle, there are lots of possible reasons... it's either fuel supply, or it's electrical... You may also want to check the AFM connections, I've known a bad AFM signal to cause some pretty serious revving/pulsing. The brake thing sounds like a failing master to me... but I know the least about brakes... It's probably not a bad idea to inspect all of your brake lines and hoses either.

1975 datsun 280z 2+2 won't start
Hrm Well just for your own piece of mind, I did find the video, and I watched it. It's a puzzling problem. Have you examined the basics? Have you pulled the plugs recently, or right after you try to start the car... are they hot? do they smell like gas? Is your fuel pump working okay? (a leak in the line anywhere?) Is there spark? Are the wires in the right firing order, etc. That said, my gut feeling is that this is an electrical issue with the ECU or some wiring something somewhere. You've gotta remember these cars are 30+ years old, and electrical snafus are extremely frequent... and I would imagine that your wiring harness is pretty badly spliced and botched... especially if someone thought it would be a good idea to install a push-button start. A modification like that certainly doesn't carry any kind of 'cool-factor' ... so it was probably done to bypass another problem....

Do it in a Datsun? I haven't tried it, but that's on my list of things to do before I die.

Anyone here drive thier Z during the Winter ?
Good god man... that's a big penis... ... compensating much pal? :tapemouth Anyway... I've never handled a Z in the snow... I can and frequently do brave the rain (it's tough with a defroster that refuses to work) ... and boy that rear end will break loose really easily on wet roads (a few of my passengers, and neighbors can attest to this... as well as some freaked out bystanders just trying to cross the street)... I can't imagine what it would be like on ice and snow! My advice is don't do it, get a beater.

Yep. E85, I believe, has an octane rating somewhere around 105?

I Lost my Clutch Pedal...
Darbji, I thought I warned you about the Ethereal money-detector my dear? ... That's lame that Kharma quit on you... and I'm glad you're getting her fixed. My advice to you, is to carry a debit card instead of cash. Lindsey isn't able to read cards, loose change, or checks/money orders... at least not in the 2+ years I've owned her. The Z only seems capable of reading cash as far as I can tell... Oh, and in terms of the valve seals, that is a pretty common problem, and there is an article (somewhere, I'll have to find it) that explains how to replace them without popping off the cylinder head... I've personally opted for some of that Lucas Oil Stabilizer as a quick 'band-aid' fix and the effects, thus far, have been quite positive.

Lookat What I did!
MBC, I acquired the new connectors on ebay as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/injector-connectors-kit-6pc-datsun-280z-280zx-300zx_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33553QQihZ019QQitemZ290155376831QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW He also sells individual ones... I purchased a 7th one for the coolant temp. sensor and he sent it as one package. I hope this helps too

MBC, Don't sweat the minor 'hijacking,' if nothing else this thread is a great conduit to open up a dialog about this project and can serve as a resource for those who wish to do what I did. Now about the hoses, Bill from Mr. Injector actually replaces them. The ones I sent out to him had the same sort of funky thing at the bottom affixing it (one even had a torn hose) ... and they all came back with new ones, so if you're planning to send them out, don't sweat the hoses... on these cars (at their age) they usually get a little beat up with the removal of the injectors anyway.

Wtf?.........
*slaps* NO! Not ALLOWED!! Srsly wtf omg ...

Lookat What I did!
Beat me to the punch, that's exactly what I did. I bought a used set on ebay for $5, then sent them to Mr. Injector (his name is Bill) ... and got them back the following week with a flow report indicating that they were all totally flawless. Total cost was about $100 for the injectors. You have to initially ship the injectors to him, so the 80's ish dollars you spend for his service on ebay is actually just paying for the cleaning/refurbishing and the trip back. Well worth it though, no complaints! EDIT: Here's the address to his ebay thing... did I also mention he included a couple of butterscotch candies in the envelope the injectors came back in? ... He must know what a bitch it is to replace them in a Z! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ASNU-Ultrasonic-Fuel-Injector-Cleaning-Service-6CYL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33554QQihZ009QQitemZ190135307890QQtcZphoto

Lookat What I did!
7 hours, 20 min No way buddy, not happening in my Z... too noisy, and the ride quality is awful... maybe once I finally can figure out how to change the diff fluid (so it doesn't whine as much) and replace the shocks and springs... and the weatherstripping and have decent AC ... then maybe I can roadtrip in it... Hrm, it wouldn't be entirely untrue :nervous: Thanks for the tip E! duely noted!

Lookat What I did!
E: Thanks dude ... ... Darbji isn't a huuge help in the parts department at present... it'd be nice if I could get her AZ discount, but I can't... and her being in Indy isn't helpin' much either... but at least I had a 25% off coupon at Checker for the final major purchase for the project... and I ended up saving close to $30... off of what would have been a $110 purchase or so... so really I got a lot of that air-stuff for free when you look at it that way (or the coil was 75% off... however you wanna slice it). She says I get to have her car bra though (for the car)... I'm hoping it detracts from the peeling paint and rust on the hood!! Haha, thanks. I was only joking really, 'just seemed like it was sort of belittling my victory over the car. I've been looking to do this project for over a year now... and it feels -really- good to have it out of the way. I've been working, saving, and accumulating parts for this since late June... student budgets are limited you see. ...isn't that made by the POR-15 folks? I never thought of trying it under the hood. Interesting...

very poor looking 2+2 on Ebay
Oh man, scary... doesn't look as bad as some of the other ones I've seen out there. I'd still drive it though... at least if it sounded as badass as it sounds... seriously, it has a skull on it!!

Mayday!!! Mayday!!!Mayday!!!
Hrm... maybe this is a shot in the dark... but I had something similar to this happen once... I was getting on an off-ramp on the freeway, and when I pushed in the clutch, everything died... and then promptly came back... Turns out my battery cables were really, REALLY corroded and were occasionally not making good contact and thus, killing everything. 'Might be worth looking at.

What to do with my car
Hrm... well I'm under the impression that of the Series 1 240z's ... only the first 500 have truly achieved 'collector car' status ... I personally think it would be really slick to see some period-correct modification done to the car... and I think it would really impress at car shows too (if you're into that kind of thing) to have a modified car that still looks as though it could have been delivered from the 70's ... In my mind it represents a nice compromise, you get to make the car faster and modify it without upsetting a lot of purists doing it.
