SU issues
3 screw was able to get the right mix after adjusting the float even more. Runs smooth at 90-95% power now. yay! thx for all the help.

new sparkplugs same thing cant get ahold of timing light atm After running i pulled the piston off the carbs and compared fuel level in the nozzle. The rear one is much lower then the front, even after i adjusted the rear float bowl again. Although i think i saw a increase with the last adjustment. Yes, i know they dont have to be the same i have had them at 2.5 and 3.5 at the same time before and didnt notice a difference. Maybe now with the float bowl a little better maybe ill have some luck with the mix nut.

all wires are on correctly all sparkplugs are pretty nasty (cleaned/sanded them same problems tho) The jet hoses are good (expensive ones) If i squeeze the front jet hose the car stalls out If i squeeze the back hose the car runs at lower rpm a a little rough Im gonna go borrow a timing light now and buy new plugs

SU issues
Ive spent too many hours with limited success. It has been running rough the last few weeks with extreme loss of power. I tore the carbs apart cleaned them and put them back on and tuned them. Most power has returned but still running rough. The air flow is ballanced, im at 1 and 7/8 turns mixture, both float bowls appear to be working the same. Heres where the issue lies im sure: When i press on the piston lift button on the back carb (making it only run on the front carb) it lowers slighly in rpm and runs a little rough. That means the front carb is tuned correcly from my understanding. BUT when i do the same on the front ( making it run only on the back carb) it stalls out right away. From what i have read this means its lean. Currenly both carbs are at the same mixture but i have taken it all the way to 3.5 turns and it does the same thing. Any ideas?

1. no 2. yes i know there at 2 flashers and i am not comnining them 3. i bought this car as a running shell, i bought and installed everything in my interior ( and have yet to find a hazzard switch) 4 sanwsered above...and dont get me started on the PO 5. correct (only when the turn signal switch is centered....otheris it workes fine

I have the service manuals(ie the diagrams) thats how i know its the 2 center green wirings headed to the hazzard switch. I was hoping i could just bypass the hazzard by connecting them. it works but when i dont have the turn signales going to the left or right it flashs both in stead of none. Its a 74 260z

Its a 74 and ive been searching for a hazzard switch...if some one finds one for sale let me know. I don’t have a hazard switch/cant find one…and the turn signal power runs though the hazard. So I connected the 2 center green wires in the wiring diagram for the turn signals. Now the turn signals work correctly when I click left or right but when it’s in the center both flash (on the turn signal flasher…. NOT the hazard flasher…I have 2 different flashers so I can heard the difference) It shouldn’t be too hard but what do I need to do to prevent it from flashing when centered? (IE how dose the hazard switch allow power to go to the left and right but not when centered when hazard switch is off?)

Nevermind, It runs GREAT now! I took it for a little drive and Its back to full power (I love this car ) I guess the fuel in the filter is indeeed low just because its a big filter. Thanks for all the help guys! It woulda taken me x2 as long if i had done this on my own. Only thing is the fuel gauge dosent work now. I hooked up the wires both ways and it still didnt work. Its bound to just be a louse connection. But just to make sure the yellow wire dose go on the larger connection that has a bit of rubber on it (to keep it from grounding) right?

No more air in the lines! But it still seems like somethings wrong it dosent rev as fast as it used to. http://img358.imageshack.us/img358/2117/untitled17wu.jpg The new fuel filter stays filled when the car is off but its seems low all the time. like the fuel is barly raching the filter. maybe its because its a big filter.

The SU's were put on a lil while ago they were adjusted properly and it ran great. No, i taped the lines that were still good, mostly just for astetics. The tank had a little bit of crud in it. Yes i know i need to clean or replace the screens in the carbs.

I cleaned out the tank and took off all the hoses. I replaced a few hoses and wrapped some others in electrical tape just to be sure. I got the tank put back in but i don’t remember witch way the fuel gauge wires go on. Dose the yellow wire go on top or dose the back one? If some out could pop their head under the back right tire and check for me that be awesome. I need to replace the "fuel strainer" but the nearest parts store didn’t have one. I think its the same as an inline fuel filter but im not sure. Is it?

I droped the gas tank and blew air through all the lines and im about to take off the rest of the hoses fited on the metal lines. the distributer Cap is brand new. Its def a fuel problem because when i blew air though the fuel strainer i got tons of gunky mess out of it.After i make sure non of the rubber hoses have cracks ill replace the strainer and clean out the tank.

Well I got it to run decently for a while. Now something’s wrong though. The car sounds raspy, and there’s barley any acceleration. I put new SU carbs, wires, plugs, cap, and rotor on it. The carbs are tuned (as i said it was running fine). I thought it was the firing order, but I brought the first cylinder to TDC and rechecked the order and it was correct, there seems to be no vacuum leaks. So I figured I just got bad gas, because it happened soon after I filled up one day. I noticed there seems to be air bubbling up in the fuel line headed towards the mechanical fuel pump. I took off the fuel strainer, cleaned it out, put it back on, and still same thing. What should I do?

Gasoline Prices, and your Z
2.85 for 87 oct and 3.05 for 93 oct here by the Space Center in Florida. Not too bad. After im satisfied with my resoration of my Z ill have a little money left over. I'd like to pick up a smal little bike like that Kawasaki Ninja 250. As some one else said the danger of the bike is whats holding me back. My uncle road bikes in his day and was a great driver but that didnt stop people from pulling out in front of him or side swiping him (ended up in the hospital with major problems). Ill stick to reserch on finding the right bike for me anyway.
