Defroster vent hoses was the hardest part of my system hookup. It is hard to get non-double jointed hands and fingers up in there. I had the right one come off after the install and had to remove the glove box to get at it. Even then it was an adventure lying on my back in the right footwell with the seat out trying to get the hoses back on the defroster vent by the windshield. FYI, I used the original vent hoses and once they were in place I haven't had to touch them since. I had installed a Hot Rod Air system very much like the one you are working with. Unfortunately they went out of business. Cheers, Mike
  2. I installed the Crane XR 700 and coil when I first got my Z in 2005 to replace the point system. It worked OK, but there was no difference in performance. Later on I replaced that distributor with one from a ZX, also no performance gain, but reliable spark. No tach problems with either one. As has been said many times here the best bang for the buck performance-wise is cylinder head /cam work. I have been very happy with my F54 block and N42 head with a stage 2 Delta cam, Z Therapy carbs, and MSA header/exhaust system. Cheers, Mike
  3. Please, no politics. There's enough anger out there already. Z cars , etc., please. Cheers, Mike

Perhaps a copper water pipe of the same diameter with the edge ground down to a sharpness then using it as a punch. Might work? Mike
  6. As far as the shift lever noise goes, try removing the shift knob and see if it still does it. This has been discussed here before. Someone else will chime in about the brake noise. Cheers, Mike

That gap looks like it might be a '73 bumper. Mine has rubber inserts where you have gaps. Cheers, Mike
  8. I have found that when first starting up any work on the cooling system that it is preferable to use just plain water. Less mess and less coolant in the driveway. When everything is AOK then drain and replace with distilled water and the correct anti-freeze mixture. I had a freeze plug blow out on a fresh rebuild and was glad I just used plain water. Just my 2 cents. Cheers, Mike
  9. My '73 that I got in '75 had these same wheels with 185/70-14 Continentals dealer installed. They are pretty rare these days. They were originally for VWs as EMPI was and is a VW accessory and engine company. They had the same bolt pattern when VW went to 4 lugs from 5. I tried to find a set when I got my current car, but was unsuccessful. This set is gorgeous. I agree with the wall art sentiment. Cheers, Mike

I have the seats from my '73. No foam, no upholstery, no rails( I used them to mount my '90 ZX seats. You can have them, for free (payin' it forward), but shipping and boxing them up will be expensive. You might be better off finding them locally. Email me at homerun2@prodigy.net if you want them. Cheers, Mike

Thanks for the pics, Mike. This site helped me in so many ways. I met people from all over the world and visited a few in New Zealand. The Zed is a unique car. There is actually none like it for the affordable enjoyment. I had one back in '74. Traded it for a 3/4 ton 4X4 Chevy p/u when I moved to the mountains. But I never forgot the excitement and love I had for that first car. In 2005 I bought another one and made it mine with new parts, paint, upholstery, etc. My wife calls it the "acceptable mistress". I actually met you at the MSA show in 2006 when you complimented me on my hat (purchased from this site). This site is by far the BEST Z car site where folks can come and not be snarked on by the old members. The members here are the most helpful of any site I have visited...so THANK YOU! And thanks to the members who make it so good. Cheers, Mike
  14. Hi Jerry, If you look very carefully with good light near the brake booster just to the right and under the throttle assembly you will possibly find an indented circular mark. It's small, but it's there. On my '73 I moved the cables from the right side to the left side like on earlier models ( I used the old hole for an A/C hose.) I had to cut a hole in the firewall for the new cable routing. There was an indented circular mark where the cables ran on earlier cars. I also had to shorten the cables as they no longer needed to go over the valve/cam cover. an 11/72 car may have had the cables on the right side as that is very close to 1973 model year. Good luck. Cheers, Mike

Well, duh. "So simple like the jitterbug it plumb evaded me." (Jimmy Buffett) I did call him and the answer is: 240Z rotors cost him $50 more. Thanks for the tip. Ordered the basic big brake upgrade kit today. It is in stock and should be shipped tomorrow. Thread can be closed now. Cheers, Mike

I have emailed Silvermine to ask why his brake rotors for 240Z are $50 more than for 280Z. No reply. I have read many posts pro and con in dealing with him. I am interested in the basic big brake kit utilizing the non-vented rotors, but the fact he doesn't respond to a simple email has me questioning whether or not to use his services. Anyone? Cheers, Mike

  19. Someone once told me that the best way to get the weight down in my car was to lose 20 or 30 # off of my fat butt. LOL. And I could stand to do just that. Just sayin'. Cheers, Mike

It can be done, however you will have to remove the steering wheel, and the driver's seat, padd the floor, and be prepared to try and get your hand(s) up in there lying on your back while tearing flesh...ask me how I know. Your patience will be sorely tested and you will get cramps in your hands, wrists, arms , neck and back. You will have to do it by feel as it is almost impossible to see up there with your hands in the way. I found it was easier to remove the fasteners holding the dash and move it out a bit. You don't have to remove it all the way, but the extra room makes it a whole lot easier. I had to do it twice(!) when I installed my hvac system because it didn't connect correctly the first time. Good luck. Cheers, Mike

Mark, not to get all nit-picky, but the pilot bearing is actually in the crankshaft. Just did that when I replaced the main seal. Cheers, Mike
  24. Old cars+old music=TIME MACHINE. Rock on............... Cheers, Mike
  25. Except that "Twice Pipes" are not stacked vertically. They are side by side. This looks like a custom exhaust system modeled after the Scarab design, Footbalnick are there two more glass pacs in the tranny tunnel? Cheers, Mike
