If you took the ballast resistor out of the circuit the car won't run (ask me how I know). Connect the two wires from the b-r together and see what happens. It would also make a great anti-theft device, because no one would look for it there. Cheers, Mike

Just a WAG...it sounds like a bad tire. When belts in the tire shift they balance fine but they still cause the problems you describe. Try front to rear rotation and see what happens. Also have the tire shop do the balance on the car at speed. When I worked at a tire shop we had a portable roller we put up against the tire and we could then run it up to speed. The other thing that waves it's flag at me is the rims drilled for conical lug nuts. If at all possible see if you can switch out your rims/tires for another set from a Z friend to see if it's the your rims/tires. Good luck. I'm sure others will chime in here, also. Cheers, Mike

I had a similar issue when I put in a 5 spd. I rotated the speedo gear housing 180 degrees in the transmission, cut a new slot with a Dremel tool. Problem solved. Cheers, Mike

Also check the nuts holding the diffy to the mustache bar, and the bolts holding the mustache bar to the car. If any of them are loose they can cause a clunk, also. Cheers, Mike

Or you could hunt through the junk yards for a ZX 5 spd. We have found that they are around if you hunt for them. The ones we have found are actually in pretty good shape requiring only new seals. Just a thought. I like the 240SX idea also...they are fairly easy to find and require only seals and a bit of machining to adapt the Z bell housing. Cheers, Mike

Hi all, Well I heard from Daniel Stern lighting...Daniel himself. Very helpful, but $79.99 for one headlight w/o a bulb seems a bit steep. Do any of you have a spare Cibie light hiding out in your parts bins? It seems that there are a plethora of H4 lights out there some more expensive than others. Any experiences with "Autopal, Hella, etc.? H4lights offers a set from "Autopal" for $90 w/ bulbs. MSA and Black Dragon have similar offers. I'm not trying to cheap out, but are there less expensive alternatives? I don't really drive all that much at night, but I don't want two different brands of lights. I guess I'm just fussy that way. Yesterday while washing my '73 I found a small hole in my Cibie HCR (rock). These headlights were installed by the P.O. a long time ago. Are they still available? The light still works, but it won't when water gets in. I would like to replace the unit with one the same or at least similar enough so you can't tell the difference. No, you are not missing any parts. See the crack? Take a ziptie and put it around the horn button (inside where the crack is), tighten and voila horn pad doesn't fall off. Cheers, Mike

That cutaway motor in the utube vid is none other than our own Kiwi friend Brian Schou. I met Brian and his lovely bride Sheryl a couple of years ago when we visited New Zealand. Wonderful hosts (they met us at the airport, and got the Zclub of New Zealand to turn out and throw us a bash at a winery in Auckland), and good friends. Hi Tony, I bought my first 240 Zed from ****'s Datsun in Fort Collins, Colorado in 1974. It was a used '73, Blue with off-white interior, with 32,000 miles. ****'s was the first Datsun dealer in Northern Colorado. He had been a body shop guy and Datsun came around with a small pickup and some spare parts. He was bought out by Tynan's who is a big dealer around here: Nissan, Kia etc. Hope this helps. Thank you. I had the car repainted when I got it. The original owner had some friends paint it and the color did not match when I removed the white vinyl roof. We matched the original color, but put some metallic in it so it was more like the 280 Z color previously mentioned. Modern paint with a clear coat, also. Cheers, Mike

It is possible that they are from a later ZX and in your'73 they are superfluous. On a ZX they hook up to warning sensors for low fluid. Cheers, Mike

You won't notice any effect from a rear spoiler unless you are driving over 100 mph. I have both spook and spoiler. You will notice a difference with the spook at highway speeds especially in a cross wind. Cheers, mike

FYI, Dave also refurbishes headlight/turn signal switches, too. He did mine and they work perfectly. I also have his relay harnesses and they also work perfectly. Cheers, Mike
