Shops near N.J. that replate yellow chromate parts
I live in New Jersey and have 78 Z car. Is anyone aware of a shop that will re-plate my yellow chromate parts, e.g. fuel rails, etc.?

Refreshing Coolant Overflow Bottle
Greetings, I have a 78 Z and am refreshing the engine compartment. My overflow bottle has tarnished with age and I was wondering what others have done to clean it and brighten the plastic. Apparently, there are no NOS replacements available and I want to keep the bay as stock as possible, so don't want to replace with a generic version. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Datsunland Museum article
Ron, I agree. I was visiting LA about 3 weeks ago and made the trip to Murrieta to visit DHM. I had a wonderful time there, conversing with Fred and Betty and touring the museum with Johnnie Gable. Her stories about Mr. K and the early history of Datsuns in CA are fascinating. They are obviously extremely passionate about the Datsun brand and my hat is off to them. I hope they can keep the museum open. Jim

wiper arms/blades
Still looking for the answer to my question. Were the wiper arms on the 78 flat or gloss black from the factory? I want to repaint them to correct finish. Thanks.

wiper arms/blades
I have a 78...were the wiper arms flat black or glossy black? They look flat to me, but the screws that hold them in look glossy.

Refreshing Radiator Overflow Tank
Greetings, I've searched past posts and haven't seen an answer to this question. My overflow tank has yellowed over the years and I'd like to clean it up. Has anyone found a technique for cleaning the inside and outside of the tank? Thank you.

New Jersey "QQ" plates
I have "QQ" plates in NJ. While I got them about two years ago, here is what I remember: 1) For our non-New Jersey friends, the "QQ" is the prefix for a personalized historic car plate...car has to be at least 25 years old. 2) While the plates are meant for shows, weekend driving, etc., there is no stated mileage limit. 3) You need classic car insurance in order to get these plates. (I know, it sounds odd, but I guess that's how NJ ensures that you don't drive it very much.) 4) You never need to get the car inspected. Those are the highlights. The only negative factor I can think of is that you have to go to Trenton in order to obtain them. Jim

L28 vs. L28E Engines
Hello, all. I have a pretty simple question. What is the difference between the L28 and L28E engine and which do I have? The VIN of my 78 280z is HLS30467776. I have a set of gaskets and seals that fit the 1978-1980 L28E engine. IF it turns out I have an L28 engine, will these gaskets and seals fit mine also? Thank you.

What is the name of this song??
There's a song named "This Girl of Mine" by White Animals (out of Nashville), and one of the lines is "She’s my woman, I’m never gonna let her go." It came out in the early 80's I believe.

Need Wingnut for Air Cleaner
Hi, all. I have a 78 Z and am missing one wingnut that closes the air cleaner housing. Does anyone have an extra one hanging around I can buy? Thanks, Jim

Your First car.
...this thread brings back memories. My first car was a 1962 Ford Falcon which had been totalled and crudely repaired. My father paid $25.00 for it and gave it to me for my 16th birthday in 1969. It was a piece of crap, but it was mine and it ran well. About a year later, I traded up to a 1962 Mercury Comet for $50.00....

Color of Blue Air Cleaner
Beandip, I also heard the Chrysler blue was very close to the original block color. Did you find that to be the case? Do you have the paint code, by any chance? That's one of my next projects.

Color of Blue Air Cleaner
Hi, all. I want to repaint, as true as possible, the light blue color of the air cleaner in the 280. Has anyone been able to replicate that color, or have a color code? Many thanks in advance.

Trying To Identify Missing Sticker
Thank you for your input. I don't have air conditioning, so it can't be DE-08. I was just hoping someone could look under their hood and tell me if they have a similar sticker/decal on the left side of the hood and what it says. I'm wondering if it might be the Tuneup-Emission decal, sold as DE-15, at Banzai.

Trying To Identify Missing Sticker
Hello, all. I have a '78 Z. There are two stickers/labels that were adhered to the underside of the hood. One is the large (5"x5"?) silver Vehicles Emissions Sticker on the right as you look at the underside of the hood. There was another sticker on the left side of the hood that looks to be around 3"x2" or something like that. Most of the adhesive is still there, but the sticker is gone. Can anyone tell me what sticker that was...and is it offered as a reproduction by any company. Thanks.

Detailing Engine Compartment
The underside of the hood is definitely supposed to be painted the color of the car.

Detailing Engine Compartment
Yes, thank you. That picture will be a big help. Did you do the work yourself? Did have you any of the parts replated? I'm thinking especially of the valve cover. It looks like it's been degreased, etc., but did you replate that with the yellow chromate? Also, how did you clean some of more delicate parts, such as the EGR control valve and heat shield? Thanks for your input. Jim

Detailing Engine Compartment
I'm getting ready to detail the engine compartment of my 78 Z. I want to keep it all stock and bring it back as close as possible to when it was new. I have a couple of questions for the group. 1) Can you point me to a good picture of the engine compartment of a 280-Z when it was new or one that has been restored to the original? I've looked through the gallery and it's hard to discern what was stock (colors, etc.) and what was enhanced. 2) What have others done to clean up or revitalize bare metal parts, such as the alternator, etc. Thank you.

Removing Rear Window Louvers
Hi, all. I have a '78 Z with dealer-installed rear window louvers. I'm thinking about removing them. Were they actually glued to the glass? It looks like one long strip at the top (where it's hinged) and two shorter strips on each side for the locks. They must be glued on really well because they've lasted 27 years. Is it something I can do? Or am I getting myself in trouble by trying. Would the glass need to be replaced? There is no problem with the louvers. I'm just not a louver kind of guy.
