  1. Will, Are you sure they never came from the factory? I purchased a 78 Z new and I don't remember ordering dealer-installed parts. Mine came with the molding on it. Of course, that was a long time ago and my memory ain't what it used to be. I'm interested also. Jim
  2. I have a silver 78 Z. I'm looking to buy the original body side molding that was color-matched to the car. I'm not really concerned if the rubber insert isn't silver, because I'll try to get it painted. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find one for sale. Anyone have such a thing for sale?
  3. I found that out the hard way last month. I basically just went to meet people and see how my car stacks up against the others. It was fun. The original owner had bumper guards installed at the dealer and, as I read the ZCCA judging criteria for Stock, that will be a deduction because it was not factory-installed. I wonder if that applies to rear-hatch louvers too? I know the ones I have were dealer installed because I have the original invoice. But, I think they were also factory-installed options, weren't they?
  4. Great info. Thank you, Glen.
  5. Hi, everyone. I recently purchased a '78 Z. The exterior and interior are are mint condition. I now want to focus my attention on restoring the engine compartment. The engine itself only has 22,000 miles on it, so I don't have to rebuild it, but I want to restore the compartment to show condition. I want to keep it stock, like just out of the showroom. My questions: Can anyone point me to some good pictures of the compartment when the car was new? Is it possible to get the parts that were plated that yellowish color (was it zinc or something like that) redone? For instance, I've seen polished and painted valve covers everywhere, but have not seen covers restored to their original coating. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a 78 280z, 4-speed manual transmission. The transmission works great, but there's a lot of play in the shift control lever.. I'm thinking that the control lever bushings may be dried out. I bought a pair of bushings, but before I go crazy I was wondering if the bushings can be replaced from the interior by removing the console and boots...or do I have to drop the transmission and do it from there. Any ideas?

I recently purchased a Silver 1978 280Z. I'm pleased to see that you can still purchase a lot of OEM parts for the cars. I've searched the Internet a lot but have been unable to find the color-matched body side molding that came with the car. Any suggestions? Thank you, Jim
  8. Greetings, I just purchased a 1978 280Z. It has chrome bumper guards on the front and rear bumpers, rear window louvers and pinstripes. I know these weren't standard equipment because I purchased one new in 1978 and it didn't have these features. But, I was told that this was a special rally package, or something of the sort, that could be purchased at sale time. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you,
  9. I just purchased a mint condition 1978 280-Z. It has chrome guards on front and rear bumpers, rear window louvers, and black pinstriping. I purchased a similar car new in 1978 and I know these weren't standard equipment. I believe the guards and louvers were part of a dealer sport package or something similar. Does anyone know for sure? How about the pinstriping? Could that have been part of the same package? Thank you in advance.
