e88 and n42

e88 and n42
i was just reading that web page u had sent me texasz and it showed that the n42 and the e88 made no compression differences on that chart. Also my Z is a california Z and it came with a catylitic converter, and on that site it said that the valves were different on the 280z's with cat's than on the 280z w/o. i have recently got rid of the cat. and also that page said that the l28 from 75-77 came with dished pistons instead of flat top like u said 240z man. so what in the world am i dealing with here? ohh yea it also says that the 76 ran leaded fuel, however mine doesnt....

e88 and n42
alright it sounds like the n42 is better from what u guys say and searching around.. I have dug into the valves and adjusted them after one of the rockers (i believe it was the rocker, happened ahwile ago) came off. it made it a little better but i still heard a rattly noise coming from the timing chain area, but everything seemed tight sound when i opened it up. another thing i wasnt sure of is the compatibility of the SU's on an n42 head but i guess after researching u can just use a e88 intake manifold gasket to cover up the injector holes. i was reading through one of my MSA catalogs and i saw one of the cam kits. Im thinking about purchasing the stage 3 if im goin to rebuild the n42. Any feedback on this kit, or has anyone run it in an n42 head with SU's?? i would still need to get the valve guide seals and timing chain kit too right?? sorry for the bombardment of questions but i really want to know alot on the area before i start throwing money around...

e88 and n42
i have 2 engines right now. ones a 1976 l28 with an n42 head and 150k miles on it. I have a 1972 l24 with an e88 head and only 50k miles on it. i was tryin to research the difference between the e88 and n42 but i couldnt find alot of info. i was wondering if i were to swap heads what would be best? could i use the l28 engine with the e88 head or would i lose hp from using the n42 head i have now? the n42 head has a bunch of noise coming from it and needs a total rebuild if i were to keep using it, the e88 head was as quiet as a mouse. whats my best bet here? ive got a weaker engine with less miles (l24) and a stronger engine with high mileage(l28) what shall i do to get the best from both worlds?

The best oil?
anyone use synthetic? i was doing an oil change on mine not to long ago and i was quite sure what to buy for a fairly high milaged Z. the person behind the counter reccomended to run a synthetic blend for like 2 oil changes then go to full synthetic. is this correct and is synthetic good/bad to use? sorry for jackin the thread if i did but i was curious. theres so many damn oil types nowadays its overwhelming.

window guide broken... what do i do?
i was replacing some window linkage in my door and i pulled the window out and found why all my linkage was bent. The plastic guide at the front of the window (passanger side on my 76) had broken off... i tried hammerin it back on but the peice doesnt sit well anymore and causes the window to go fall off the linkage. It appears that the knobs that click into the window frame broke so. what are my options here... any ideas?

so, i started to roller paint...
im very interested in the roller paint... can anyone send me some info on it? or a link? my Z is close to painting and i am still in a debate on how to do it. I have all the painting equipment but not the proper place for a sprayer... does roller paint require a less paint adequate place?

painting rims?
My polished aluminum rims are all scratched and see to be near impossibly to clean up... is there any type of paint that i could use to bring some life back into them...? not necessarily a clear coat but i think i was gunna go with black because i want a whole yellow and black color scheme on my Z. any ideas? (theres a pic of the rims in my gallery)

what a day...
so ive been workin on my 76 280 for awhile now and i have finally gotten around to the floors and i started cutting them out.... little did i know the damn fuel lines were underneath them ... so hear i am cutting away and i notice that it was gettin rather difficult to cut... look underneath and realize i just cut through the fuel send and return lines... just another thing to add to the list... anyone know the size of the fuel lines in the 280z? i suppose if im replacing one, why not do them all! Ontop of it all i went out and bought all new brakes for my Z and i went to look for the wheel lock socket and its gone missing.... it seems to always be the small set backs that make these projects take forever... Anyways ill have some recent pics added to my profile soon if any of u are interested.. right now im doing body work and partial pre-assembly before painting to make sure everything lines up properly.

Why are 72's considered best Z
Theres pluses and downsides to just about every year in my opinion. If ur into low # Z's then older is obviously better. If ur looking for a stiff rigid unibody then i would say 73 and into the 76 280z. The best Z car is the one that suites u best. Overall if i had to say which one was best it would be the 72

What is the worst part of this club
ive been a member here for quite sometime, but still consider myself a newb compared to all the veterans here such as Will and Sblake. I have found very few annoyances to this site. As mentioned early i can turn my head to them and it wont bother me. If theres anything i would change it would be the occasional drama that occurs on the site when everyone trash talks eachother. This site has quadrupled my knowledge of Z's and i wouldnt be where i was with my Z if it hadnt existed. And i too agree that the small amount of annoyances are largely cancelled out by the endless lists of pluses

I'm Back!
Hey all you fellow Z fans. Im finally back after this great summer. Hope everyones projects are coming along well. Ive been keeping busy with my Z and she sha'll soon be on the road, but nowhere near done!. Im starting on the interior structure this week, i started cutting out the floor pans and just purchased the metal that will takes the rust's place. I have finally have the nose done, all welded up and ready for the fenders to be mounted. Engines running smooth and im starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Only one problem i have run into. I need a hose that goes from the AFM to the throttle body (1976 280z) . Would Victoria british sell this item? right now i have black duct tape taking its place and i would really like that to get out of there. I have been using the spray on truck bedliner for most of the undercarraige and interior and i must say it was well worth the money spent. Anyways thats my update since i havent been on the site for awhile. Im Looking forward to everyones ideas and inputs again!
