Is there such thing as a "smoke bomb"?
i kno of little tiny smoke bombs you can buy in firework stores, they make them in many different colors. They also sell smoke bombs for paintball gun wars. Call around to a fireworks shop first because i kno they have them... used to play around with em all the time =) They look like little hard colored balls with a fuse attached (kind of an odd sounding description.... ) They would be perfect

I checked out a Datsun today, and now I need some help...
What u mentioned is more of a drive way mechanics job anyways, if u have a manual you should be alright and you could also invest in a car Canopy... they go from $100-$700 dollars depending on what you are looking for. A single car canopy with side walls and a door usually runs from $120-$150. I think they are great because they withstand all weather and can easily be moved. Hope this information helps!

Simple Brake Question?
you will notice this in every single car you get into, if they dont feel very firm when ur driving, try rebleeding them, maybe you have some air in the lines.

72 240z forsale
Hi guys. I recently just bought a 1972 datsun 240z and started to restore it. I took most of it apart and I was going start from the ground up. As i got into it i realized i dont have the money or the time to spend on it, and i believe that this particular z deserves to be restored porperly. The car's unibody isnt in the greatest shape, but the rear end is solid as a rock, The Fenders are great ( right side off the car at the moment) with the exception of the bottom of the right front fender which needs repair. The quarter pannels seem solid, suspension is good ( front suspension is off the car). Before i took the car apart it ran, drove, and stopped( boy did this thing scream). The engine has 55K original miles on it and it runs very nice. The interior rugs and seats are all perfect, dash seems to be fine, all the guage worked. For interior work the floor pannels need replacing ( already cut out of the car),floor supports need replacing, and there is no heating/cd player console. For exterior body work it needs a battery tray, possibly front frame rails, some patches on the inner wheel wells, rocker pannels, and some patches on the unibody. For new parts i have an ignition coil, wires, points, condenser, airfilter box, plugs, and a muffler i had ordered but im not sure if i am still going to buy it. I would like to see this car restored, but i will also parts it. The doors, seats, front right fender, rims+tires, shocks, and sway bar are all off the car. All the glass seems good aswell, except the windshield which has a very small crack. For the car itself i would like to get $1000 (which is what i payed for it) or if people want parts off of it they have to talk it over with me. Overall i am really sad to see it go, but i just cant get the job done at this time. I will get pics to those people who are interested, and i will not drive parts/ car to anyone (sry ). If you want anymore information on it please post, and if interested we will find better ways of communicating :lick:

I agree with u First gen Z, Try doing the work yourself, manuals like Chiltons manual go through step by step instrucutions to insure your doing it right, and they dont cost to much. In the long run you will save tons of money. Only reason im not saying buy it in a heart beat is because my Z looked perfect until i got it apart, now i need a new shell. Good luck

Help From you ole guys
That Z looks like it was in the same shape as mine was when i first bought it, i spent 1000 on mine, but it was complete and only had 50k miles on it with a clear title. I brought it home got it running, driving and stopping, but little did i know what I was gettin into. I tore off the fenders, hood, doors, seats, hatch, wheels, and suspension so it was just the unibody. It looked a little rusty but i figured i could just sandblast the unibody. So im out there workin on it and i look up only to see this massive whole in the unibody ( right side of the engine bay right over the inner wheel well). I then start tapping it with a screwdriver to see the extent of the rust and it was alot worse than i expected. There wasnt a 5 inch gap between rot holes. So now im stuck with a nice engine and suspension with nothing to put it in =( if anyones got a shell out there im searchin! Well anyways im just tryin to say check it over because looks can be decieving.

I dont know to much about the newer Z's, but i know they dont hold as much value as the older ones (unless they are like 2000's). I'd look into this, it could be a project car and you just dont know it. If i were you i would do some shopping around (if u havent already) and maybe you will find one in better condition. Especially if ur looking for more of a daily driver car. Just my thoughts.

240z shell
yah... still gotta work a few things out... once we get a word on whats happenin we will worry about a title.
-
240z shell
yah... as long as the unibody is strong... where the fenders mount on to then im cool with it, frame rails need to be strong, suspension doesnt matter as long as the shock towers are good. I just dont want it turnin out to be a repeat of the one i just bought =P... u get the fenders off and the unibody is rusted through and u can put ur hand through it. As far as price goes it depends on the condition. I will pay according to the condition of the unibody =) I appreciate this dude.. ur helpin put another Z on the road.

Advice

sry... forgot to post the other stuff... the keyswitch may be able to be saved, just disasemble it, see if anything is jamming, and if not remove the rust and lubricate it. As for the dash lights it may be faulty wiring or corrosion on the wires... not quite sure. The seatbelt is probably just sticking. The belt on my Z was just kinda rusty so it stayed out like urs, try jiggling it and lubricating the locking and retracting part. Good luck with ur z!

There are a few things to look at when u purchase an older car like this. I recently just purchased a 72 240z myself and it turned out to be a much bigger project than i expected. First off check the floor pannels to see if they are rotted through. If there is any surface rust remove it and prime it(ETC) Another thing to check is the front end, see how the shock towers are, frame rails, inner wheel wells and so on. As far as the rubber falling from the front end goes, id look into that. Overall just inspect the car for rot holes and rust, as i learned "never judge a book by its cover" :lick: Im not an expert on Z's but listen to the people here.. they know just about everything there is to know with Z's

240z shell
yah... new england is a terrible place to buy classic cars from. Whats weird is that the fenders and doors are mint without a spec of rust on them, along with the hood. Now i know never to judge a book by its cover Btw i do want those pics (prefferably the front frame rails, fire wall, under the engine bay, and battery tray.) of the black z and was wonderin what u were lookin to sell it for =) Also mines a 8/72 and u said urs was a 10/71? so everything should match up.

240z shell
sick dude i just was tappin the front shell with a screwdriver and there isnt 5 inches between rot holes... its ridiculous, the whole entire frame is just gone
-
240z shell
thanks for the reference man. I just stripped her down to the shell and when im done sandblasting it i might be able to restore it, although its unlikely because the rot is in the oddest places. Im still a little baffled as to what to do but i appreciate the responses

240z shell
yah i gotta do some plannin tho. Another thing is im not exactly sure if i want to devote that much time/money to this car. I dont mean to sound uninterested in Z's but id rather travel down to Arizona for some vette parts if u kno what i mean . Knowing me ill prolly end up goin down there cuz i would hate to see this car just half assly put together. In the mean time ill keep searchin for that shell and if any of u have one lieing around and ready to be sold im interested.

Welders
thanks a bunch. I wont be welding too much because i think im gunna try to buy a new shell... mines just to far rotted. Ill search around for a gas mig. appreciate the responses. If anyones knows of or has a spare shell they are selling im interested =) I also have a other thread on the shell
