Engine coming apart problems
for my 280 i went to a pick n pull for my fuel injector and i ganked one off a 81 z and its working fine. I THINK they are compatible from 1983 and below however i could be wrong. Take the # 5 injector with u and just match it up with something there. Hope this helps!

mechanical fuel pump woes
kinda what i ment, but just take it out and move it up and down when u push up and let go does it fly back down? if not then it needs to be cleaned and lubed, and yes when you put it back in make sure its ontop of the lobe

mechanical fuel pump woes
wait wait wait... this happened to me on my 72 240 aswell.. Check the arm to the mechanical fuel pump that is suppose to be pushing on the lobe, make sure it has downward force on it... This is EXACTLY what mine did and i just loosened it all up and she pumped like she just came off the showroom floor

Your First car.
Well lets see.. I cant even drive yet and my first car was a 1984 dodge d-250 prospector. I was going to restore it but it was to far gone to restore ( they look cool all done up) So i had some fun with that in my back yard till i towed it away ( i was doing brake stands and it started to slip down a hill.. I slammed into a tree and broke the body mounts on the bed :nervous: ) My next car to restore was the 1972 240z Which seemed to good to be true. I had the car for about a month or two months just stripping it down, gettin the engine running smooth and all that good stuff when it came down to taking the fenders off. This thing was so rotted that you couldnt even put ur own weight on the unibody. The car ended up being a former resto job where they did NO rust proofing and decided to use bondo for the rear quarters and some weird molding puddy for the rockers ( in other words the car was more bondo/plastic than metal). Im now partsing that out ( has an amazingly strong engine with only 50k original miles) . Im currently restoring a 1976 280z from cali and that should be my first car that i use on the road legally =). I may be young but i have so much experience with cars and small engines. I think the 2nd word outa my mouth was either truck or car. Im just fascinated by every automobile. I have the car bug really bad...

speakers
I had 6 by 9's behind the seats of my 240 but they were custom, as for the 10 inch woofers... try mounting the somehow in the corner of the rear shock towers so the the driver side speaker is facing the passenger and the passenger side woofer is facing the driver. Just to give you that... all around sound Just an idea... ohh and for the front 4 inch my 280 has them mounted in the door pannels right near your feet. Heh the 240 i was restoring had em magnetised to the stearing column and the firewall... what a half arse way. But i can take some pics of the door pan speakers if youd like.. they look really nice in there.. If you wanted to get fancy you could mount them in the dash towards the far right and left with those screen covers on them like you see in modern cars nowadays

My new 280Z
i went through the same procedures as u listed before i fired up my 280. Plugs, rotor, blew some compressed air through the gas lines incase it was clogged, new dist. cap, plug wires, new gas, ( gas tank was nice and clean so i just put some of that heet water removal stuff in it, id reccomend seafoam... stuff works wonders), charged battery, terminal cleaning ( by the starter and starter slonoid), After that i turned the key and she fired right up. Make sure to check fluid levels ( tranny, engine oil, coolant etc..) Pretty much just perform a basic engine overhaul pefore you fire it up just to keep things clean. I did this on mt 240z and 280z and it worked out fine. Good luck and keep us posted! EDIT: sorry forgot about the rust proofing part. Rust eats away at Z's rapidly and theres ways to treat it. Stuff called POR-15 is usually the best way to go.. Just apply to arreas that are prone to rusting (floor pans, front end of the unibody, etc) do a forum search on it and ull find plenty of information. There youl find the process of applying it and what materials u need and where you can purchase them. In the long run it is really worth it.
