My new 280Z
sounds like you got quite a deal for a rust free Z. Anyways let me be the first to say congratulations and welcome to the site! Ur starting plan seems to be good, but is this goin to be a daily driver or a weekend driver? If its a weekend driver and ur looking for top quality i would recomend stripping it down a little. this means seeing if the unibody under the front fenders is still sturdy, the floor pans are strong and sturdy, frame rails are strong, floor supports and so on. If you do a search im sure there is many threads on inspecting your z. Once again congrats and i hope to see some pics! Also invest in rust proofing the Z too.. in the long run its more than just worth it. EDIT: for the battery terminal thing try flipping it 180* so the terminals are further away from the firewall.. Also make sure you dont connect them wrong... heard some bad stories bout that. If you need any help along the way im sure everyone here will be glad to help you. Enjoy!

v8 in a 280
haha yah im still debating. I dont know how i would get this engine outa a dump truck . Im tryin to get my hands on a cheap 350 aswell. In all honesty i dont think ill end up gettin the 427 but im definantly getting a small block 350. The 350 can fit into a normal engine bay without much hassle right? Anyways where can i purchase the conversion kit?

v8 in a 280
Hellooo. Im in the process of restoring a 1976 280z and i wanted to put a small block chevy 350 in it. I noticed this was brought up several times in other threads but i would like to get questions answered as i go along. anyways for me finding a chevy 350 to rebuild wont be a problem at all. I just want to know is what i would do about the tranny and drivetrain, also what the weight difference is ( if ill need to do some stiffening of the frame rails) and where i could purchase the conversion kit or if i could make it myself. Any input is welcome.

California Crackdown on Modified Cars
That article is bull sh*t. A cop cant pull you over because he feels the need he needs to have a legal reason not a hunch. This makes me very mad . As much as i hate little civics with the fart canons and big spoilers i think that this is just crap. As far as the mufflers it seems more like a personal issue. If you dont like the damn noise then move Ed is right about the motorcycle part. I hear so many bikes go by that are by far louder than any car and have never heard 1 complaint about them. They should keep the laws they have now. And for pulling over someone for having a sticker is just beyond ridiculous.... its insanity. MY overall opinion is they can take that article and shuv it up ther u knowwhat....

Rust proofing my car, should I open this up?
if ur bringin the Z make sure you do a good job rust proofing it. Thankfully my 280 was made in cali and it came over in 1999 but since then rust has already started, just glad i got to it in time.

Whats your most outragous kill story?
civics should not exist on this planet... they should just be sent to the crusher or melted down so i can use there metal for my floor pans. :devious:

3rd Z, 1st 240
welcome aboard and congratulations on ur new Z. This is a great reference site if ur in the midst, or just beginning a restoration of the Z. From what i saw in your pics and from what you just posted it sounds like you have a nice start to your restoration. First thing I would purchase is a manual. Either Chiltons Haynes ( preferably one that covers 240-280 because you have a 280 engine)... any of those are fine. Another thing i would purchase is a body restoration book if ur just gettin into car restoration. The people here are great and will help you with darn near everything Also if you need any parts for the restoration im parting out a 72 240z

HELP ME!!! only gettin fuel to 1 cylinder!
Yes i notice the difference in the manifolds.. I think im going to put the 280 manifold back on or fabricate the heat shield so i dont have to go through all that trouble again.. As for it running bad it seems perfectly fine. I havent even adjusted the timing yet since i got it. Once i get everthing tuned right ill see if i need to swap the old manifold back on.

HELP ME!!! only gettin fuel to 1 cylinder!
well that makes perfect sense. My 240 was a late 72 so it probably had some of the 73 features

Cold Air Intake--NOT a "fifteen minute install"
im using the stock air box for my 280z would i really even notice a difference if i went for a top of the line cold air intake? from what ive heard they dont do much or not enough so u cant notice a difference

HELP ME!!! only gettin fuel to 1 cylinder!
Well in all honesty it runs a hell of alot better than my former exhaust and i do have 1 leak but its just because of a broken stud. I have to drill this one out but the others just screwed out... i dont get it This manifold might not be permant, i want to see if i can get the 280 manifold back on but i broke the studs on that aswell .. If i get it running smooth then i may not put the old manifold back on. I matched the exhaust ports and they were identical but one thing im not sure of is that the exhaust i put on is off a stock 240z because it has an EGR valve.... Correct me if im wrong but 240z's didnt come with an egr right? It did come off my 240 though...
