hey datsunzsrule, now that i looked back at the main page i noticed it was pretty obvious :stupid: . i remember you were helpin me decide with the one in arizona. good thing i passed on that one. i found one last week and i will put the pics up soon. it was a nevada car like a half hour away from me here in Il. no major rust, no accidents, and best of all i got to see it in person. it was a real good find. thanks for your help

i need a moderator to delete the pics in my gallary for me. they are pics of a car that i was looking into buying and dont need anymore, so i can put picks of the car that i bought. i looked around for a list of mods, most forums have a list of the mods for each section but i didnt see any here. thanks
  4. Cool, I'll pick up the resto book for sure. Would it be better to get the actual datsun shop manual, oppossed to the suplement one by nissan for half as much or a chiltons? I have noticed with other cars i worked on that the factory's shop manual is usually more comprehensive.
  5. Hey guys. I was lookin around for places that have manuals and books on z's and i found this site, http://www.books4cars.com/search~findmake~Nissan~finddesc~Z.htm What books do you guys recomend that i should pick up for my 71. I was thinkin a shop manual for sure, and maybe the "how to restore" book cuz everyone says it has good info. If you guys know a place to get these books at a better price or if there are any other must reads that arent on that list let me know. thanks

hey guys, some of you might remember i was looking into a Z in Arizona. Good thing i didnt pick that one up cuz few days ago my dad handed me an ad from the newspaper for a 71 240. The car is from Nevada and has been in Chicago for only one year. The car has no rust, well one spot on the cowl where like 2 bubles are cumming from under the paint, thats all though. Floor pans, frame rails, spare tire well, inner fenders, its all mint condition. no body filler, never been in an accident. The car has some nice 14" spoke rims with new tires, interior is complete, one rip in the 30 year old leather seat. looking underneath and at the suspension no bolts appear to be rusted. My plan for the car is to strip it down and build it back up as a track car. I figure this is a great starting point cuz its a solid chasis. So im just happy that the year and a half long search is over and now i can get to work. By the way i got the car for 3k. so im very pleased with this purchase and look forward to hangin out here. ill go buy a disposable camera tomorrow and get some pics of the car, but for now im headed back in the garage to stare at the z some more. later guys

no, i meant ill offer the guy in arizona 700. But after thinkin about it i cant bring myself to spend 900 to ship a car that i havnt seen in person. so it looks like my search continues. if anyone knows of any clean shells let me know. thanks for helping me out guys, this seems like a very helpful board and i look forward to chattin more with you guys once i find a 240. later john

He has the same description on the autoextra.com site. I asked him about that what he said he means is that there is no major rust like holes, just minor surface rust. He has sent me more pics of the inner fender wells, doorjams/rockers, underbody, and some engine bay pics and everything looks pretty clean. just that litte frekle surface rust, but not much of that even. I am lookin for a restore project, so im basically just lookin for a straight forward shell. I dont mind alil rust and dents as im gonna be takin car of that stuff. Even if it ran i would be pullin the motor out anyway, and probably gonna put something else in there, so that doesnt matter much. Wanna hear something that drives me crazy, the guy across the street has a 72 240 in mint condition, no rust anywhere, perfect int. its been sitting in the same spot for the past 25 years atleast but he doesnt want to sell it. everytime i ask he just says he likes to look at it in his driveway. kinda frustrating that what i want is right across the street but ill probably end up having to get one from across the country. eh, im thinkin ill offer the guy 700 and see what he says. If he doesnt take that then ill keep looking. Thanks for the replies guys.

I know the car is not mint. He has been pretty up front and honest about the car. He told me the interior is beat, the engine runs but there are drivetrain problems that prevent it from driving. some surface rust, but nothing is rusting through. he said below the battery tray is fine, floor boards frame rails and rockers are fine. In the shot of the rear, right below the bumper, the body looks alil tweaked, maybe its just the picture though. Im still talking with the owner and getting more info on the car and im gonna ask about that. hes askin 1k for the car. if its as clean as he says it is then it sounds like a good deal to me. what do you guys think

Anybody near Paradise Valley, Arizona 85253 wanna take a look at a 240z for me? I live near Chicago Il. and with my work schedule there is no way i will be able to get down there to take a look at it. I am lookin at this car for the shell only, im not worried about the mechanical or interior condition. Just want someone to check it out and verrify that there is only minimal surface rust, all body panels line up right, and there is no major body filler. Gotta make sure before i spend the money to have it shipped up here. If someone could help me out i would be more than willing to reimburse you for your time. thanks john

Ok, i put the pics in my gallary but they are waiting for approval i guess before they will show up. I havnt bought the car yet, first im gonna try and have someone go look at it in person for me just to make sure the car is what im expecting after i pay 900+ to get it to my house. Hey guys. Thanks for the replies. I found a site called autoshippingquotes.com. i filled out a form and they emailed it to a bunch of transporters for me. About 6 companies got back to me already and it appears that 950-1k is what its gonna cost. 200 less if it were running. Oh well. I will look around for any member near the location of the car and see if they would help me out. I have been told many times how clean a car is and then its a different story in person, and i would hate to waste all this time and money for a bondo covered rust bucket. but it doesnt look like the one in 26th-z's pic at all. I hope this is the one so i can start wrenchin on a car again instead of lookin for one. thanks alot guys.

Hey guys. After a lengthy search i think i found the 240z for me. Only problem is that its in Arizona and im in Illinois. My work schedule wont allow me to go see the car in person, but from the many pics and talkin to the guy it sounds like its in fine shape and at a great price too. So what i wanted to know is how have you guys transported your z's. what company did you use and how much am i lookin at to get it moved? I already tried dependable auto shippers, but they wont answere the phone or emails. So they seem to be kind of shady. Also the car is non running, i know that makes a difference. I really appreciate the help guys. john
