Bruce , Didn't ZTherapy recommend lawnmower cables instead of bicycles cable? Dave

I'm with SteveJ. Dave Irwin made a wiring harness for my stock 280 Z a few years ago and the headlights work great.
  3. Eric, I don't know if Sacramento is too far for you but there's transmission shop that rebuilt my 78 5-speed back in 2005 for $484.00. I brought it in on a Thursday and they had it the following Monday. The had a 60 day/6000mile warranty. The transmission still works flawlessly today. They are located a few blocks away from the convention center in downtown Sacramento. Good luck. Dave Ruiz Manual Transmission Warehouse 1220 C Street Sacramento, CA 95814 (919) 441-2712 Owner: Larry

Sk, If I understand your description, the red arrow hose goes to the front carb and connects to the diaphram on the distributor (the round thing sticking off the side of the distributor). The blue arrow indicates the front carb choke wire. You should see the choke linkage and where it connects. Do you have a Factory Service manual? (FSM). If not they can be downloaded. Just search for a member here who goes by "Blue". Also check the ZTherapy website for illustrations and you may want to get their SU Carburetor DVD. Good luck. Dave

RoCa, The wire coming from the engine bay firewall in picture #3 goes to the white plastic vacuum canister in the engine bay. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Dave Ruiz

Congratulations on your Z. The most difficult hose I found to get at a reasonable price was the fuel filler hose. The one from the filler neck to the tank. Mine had a hole in it and was dripping gas at fill-ups. I think the 240 Z hoses are easier to get than the 76 280 Z. If you have to replace one of the hoses you may want to do them all as well as rust proofing the gas tank with POR-15 or an equivalent. As much as I dreaded doing the entire gas tank/hose refurbishment, I turned out to be a fun project. Dave Ruiz

Art, Your suspension restoration looks great. Very nice work! Dave Ruiz
  8. It depends on what form of Aloe Vera. Extracts may contain undesired additives. Water is relatively safe.
  9. Water, coconut water, or aloe vera juice.
  10. David, I found this from my records by someone named KMack on this site when I did my 280 tank hoses: "I bought 5' of the 5/8" and 8' of the 1/2" hose when I did mine just to be on the safe side. To make the 180 degree bend you'll need a piece if 1/2" OD steel tubing (preferrably stainless) about 6" long. (Do not use copper tubing! The fuel will degrade the copper over time and could ruin your fuel system.) You can probably find a place that sells this (plumbing shop would be a good place to start) and they'll most likely be able to bend it for you. I used a bench mounted vise. Painfull and time consuming, but it worked. Once you have the tubing bent, just slide it in the 5/8" hose and hook it all up. It's pretty easy from there." Dave Ruiz
  11. I saw it a while back. It was a quirky entertaining movie. It made my Z look show quality! Dave Ruiz
  12. Have you checked Courtesy Nissan, Black Dragon or Nissan parts.com? My understanding is you don't want to use anything but original Nissan washers on the large ones. If you can't source any I can see what I have in my parts box this weekend. Dave Ruiz
  13. If you need to rebuild your steering rack, try Rareparts.com out of Stockton. You may be interested in the "Street Racing Suspension" DVD from ZTherapy. It shows the workings of both the front and rear suspensions of the Zcar and how to replace parts and bushings. Check out some of Blue's technical articles about the suspension system. Congratulations on winning the $1000 Walmart gift card! Dave Ruiz

    Nicely done! Dave Ruiz
  15. Some recommend using Urethane and rubber on the T/C rod bushings. The reason given for not using all Urethane on them is there have been cases of the T/C rod breaking because of the lack of flex. There is also a nylon (Delrin) ball and socket available from Black Dragon. I found Blue's tips very helpful and the "Street Racing Suspensions" DVD from ZTherapy helpful. Have fun! Dave Ruiz
  16. If you decide against this. I'm going to be selling my 76 280Z. Dave Ruiz daveruiz_2000@yahoo.com Mendocino County, CA

Try a pair of mirrors from a 280ZX. They usually can be had inexpensively. Dave Ruiz
  18. Mike, Happy New Year to you! My vote would be a fuel filler tube for a 76 280Z. Dave Ruiz
  19. Two other books that have been very helpful are: "How to Restore Your Datsun Z Car" by Wick Humble and although it doesn't cover the Z car specifically there is a lot of useful information in "How to Keep Your Datsun Nissan L-Series/Z-series Alive" by Colin Messer (This is out of print but can be had on used book sites). Search in the "Tech Pub & How to Articles" for: "Treating inside/outside of gas tank with POR15 products and removing evaporation tank". Written by Dogma420 on 10-8-12. Also when you install the tank, attach the fuel filler tube to the tank then feed it through the filler hole.

I used the POR-15 system on my 76 and it worked well. Make sure you have dry weather if you are working outside. I believe the entire process takes about 3-4 days. Check the condition of all the fuel hoses (may as well replace them), filler tube, and sending unit. The filler tube for the 76 280 is getting harder to come by as well as the sending unit (at least at a reasonable price). At least replace the fuel tank sending unit gasket. There are also companies that can do the work for you: gastankrenu.com and gas-tank.com. Good luck and have fun! Dave Ruiz
  23. Steve, There was somebody at hybridZ.com. Dave
  24. I'd call Bruce at Z Therapy. Didn't you also get a copy of the "Just SU's " DVD? If I remember correctly it shows a 260 to 240 conversion. Good luck. Dave Ruiz
  25. My 76 280 Z has no spray bar. The production date is 4-76 Dave Ruiz
