The brake shims may need replacing. Could you be more specific about the gas tank Leak? It could be a hole in the tank or a rotting hose. Dave Ruiz
  2. Philip, Thanks for the tip. I look forward to your posts and glad to see here! Dave Ruiz
  3. Alex, Nice find! Well done! You could really avoid confusion in your handle by using .71 liters. Dave Ruiz
  4. Yoshi, You will get a variety of opinions. There are a couple of options: 1. Learn to maintain the flattops. It can be done. Search HybridZ and zcar.com for TonyD. He has written about maintaining the Flattops and at one time had or has a standing offer to buy them. There is also a manual for the flattops. 2. If you can afford the Ztherapy Carbs I think that would be the general consensus. 3 Get a used set of the early SU's. Keep checking Ebay, the classified sections, post a parts wanted ad. Something will usually show up. Since I have no experience with Webers I can't help you. Dave Ruiz

Sean, Carburetors misfire and backfire too. As Steve suggested...read the factory service manual for the year of your car. Also download the Fuel Injection Bible. Do some tests. Then if you get stuck, post back here with the specific problem. There's a lot of people here who are glad to help but you have to do make the effort too. Good luck. Dave Ruiz
  6. Fram G-3 is the filter. They are usually available anywhere: Walmart, Kragen, Napa, Autozone, etc. Dave Ruiz
  7. New alternators can go bad quickly. Where did you get it? Have it tested by an automotive electric shop. If it's bad have them rebuild it. I've had better luck having my starters and alternators rebuilt by such shops than having to rely upon an alternator or starter with lifetime warranty from most of the chain stores. I have a bias because I had a car die on the bay bridge going into San Francisco with a new "lifetime warranty" starter. Dave Ruiz
  8. I'll second the ATF. Dave Ruiz:beer:

Chris, Are they the same caps that fit the Iron Cross wheels"? See photo. Dave Ruiz
  11. You should be able to get a gasket from MSA, Black dragon, Z man of Washington, Arizona Zcar, Courtesy Nissan of Texas. I think the service your radiator repairman is referring to is Gastankrenu.com or gastank.com. I've read good reviews about both but have not used either. I used regular hose clamps on all the hoses except the filler tube. I just cleaned up the filler tube clamp and reused it. Good luck Dave Ruiz
  12. Reese, I bought that harness from Black Dragon and eventually sold it. I really didn't like the workmanship and eventually bought Dave Irwin's (Z's-ondabrain) harness. I would recommend his harness. You will not be disappointed! I believe he can alter your existing wiring or send him the extra plugs and he can build one for you. Have you contacted him? Dave Ruiz
  13. Dave, Nice work as usual! Dave Ruiz
  14. Chad, Go to AtlanticZcar.com and look under the technical articles. There should be an article by "Blue" showing how to change wheel bearings. The author, Blue (aka Phillip), has written several "how to" articles. He also contributes to this forum and has also posted quite a bit on zcar.com. Although I don't recommend zcar.com any longer, there are some good articles by Blue in their archives. (After searching here extensively of course)! Dave Ruiz

Dave (Zs_ondabrain) built a headlight harness for my 76 280Z. You need to supple him with 2 or3 connections from a 280Z. His harness works great! Dave Ruiz
  17. Cheese, I just refurbished my tank last September. I have a 76 280Z Since you've gone through the trouble of removing the tank, I'd replace all of the hoses. The filler tube is pretty easy to install: the key is to attach the filler tube to the tank first...then fit it through the filler opening. You may have to heat (use a heat gun or hair dryer) the tube to get it to fit through the opening. You can get a little rough with the tube...it's pretty stout! Observe all safety precautions regarding possible gas tank fumes and heat sources! Most of the hoses are available from your local auto parts store. The problem child is the 16mm (5/8") hose with the 180 degree bend. I don't now the availability of new ones for a 73 Z but you can get a 6 inch length of 1/2 piece of stainless steel tubing and have it bent by a muffler shop, machine shop, or plumbing shop. Slip the 5/8" hose over the sleeve and you have a bend. The other hoses should be fairly easy. I'd also clean and coat the tank straps with POR-15. Clean the j-bolts and nuts. I'll state he obvious: get gasoline or fuel injection hoses NOT heater hoses. Do you plan on coating the inside and outside of the tank? If you do POR-15, Eastwood Company, Kreem make gas tank coating systems. I've used POR-15 on my Z and three motorcycle tanks, all with excellent results. I've not read or heard anything bad with the Eastwood products and have read mixed reviews about Kreem products. Good luck. Dave Ruiz
  18. I you are interested I have a brand new set of NGK Blue Spark plug wires. I would also recommend the NGK plugs over the Auto lite. Looking forward to your progress. Dave Ruiz

Reese, I second the recommendation for Z'sondabrain. Go to zhome.com Look under the "Documents" section then "Index of Technical Articles". "Body Electric" "Lights/Lighting". You'll find a couple of articles about making your own harness. Dave Ruiz

Phil Here's my 76 280z. The hood is a 77 and it was painted Chevy Orange (one of my early experiments with paint). Dave Ruiz
  21. I had a similar problem with my 280Z with 72 SU Carburetors. My fuel line was clogged. And my Mechanical fuel pump was leaking. You said you don't think it's a clogged line... are you sure? Spray starting fluid into the bowls of the carburetors. I just pulled the hose from the top of the carb bowl and sprayed starting fluid through the inlet in both of the carbs. (See photo) The car started and ran for about a minute. I then blew out the hard lines from the tank to the fuel pump and carburetors. The car started on it's own and ran fine until I noticed the fuel pump leaking. Ordered a new one from AutopartsWarehouse.com for $19.95. The car runs fine (Except for two bad plugs wires..on order). Sounds like you may have to check your fuel tank for debris. A recoating of the tank may be in order. Also do you have a factory service manual? They are easily downloaded from this site. Good luck. Dave Ruiz
  22. Replaced my fuel pump and found out why the car was running rough...two bad spark plug wires! Can't complain too much...the NGK wires have been in the car since 2002. Dave Ruiz Have I ever told you guys who own garages how much I envy you?

Arne, YORGO's posts have been mostly entertainment and I've never found them to be offensive. I think he would have a lot to contribute to the "Boobs" thread. In his defense Yorgo always seemed to post in the proper sections of ZCAR and I would think he'd do the same here. Dave Ruiz

Tony, Looking forward to your contributions! Do you still want to keep your "Emperor" Title? Dave Ruiz
  25. Could be a number of things. Usually if you're getting a clicking, your relay is working. Start with the battery. It could be a number of things: Battery, bad cables, bad connections on the battery terminals, alternator, starter, wiring. Do you have a service manual? Dave Ruiz
