  1. Bryan, Might I suggest that you also get Dave's parking light harness upgrade too. After you've installed both the headlight harness and the parking light harness you will notice a big improvement in your lights. You will also notice a big improvement with just the headlight harness but the parking light harness also makes a drastic improvement. Regardless of the upgrade, see how you like the lights that you have now. You may find that you don't need to go with the higher grade bulbs after adding Dave's products. I have both the headlight harness and parking light upgrade in my 76 280Z and they made a drastic improvement in my stock lighting. Dave Ruiz

If you need a gauge I have one from a 78 280Z that's working. Email me at: daveruiz_2000@yahoo.com. Dave Ruiz:beer:
  3. I used to visit the Zcar.com site but most of the informative (entertaining) people have left, TonyD, Blue, Kammy and if you ask what happen to them, your post gets deleted. It seems a large majority of people who ask questions are given lectures about the use of the "search " button. There seems to me that there are less stupid questions asked on this site and when one does occur, the offender isn't given a PH.D dissertation about the evils of misinformation. Anyway, enough of that! Have a good weekend! Dave Ruiz

Rob, Any chance of making a fuel filler tube for a 74-76 280Z? Dave Ruiz
  5. This is a write-up on zcar.com. Search for the name 280Z-hab dated November 29. Sorry I don't know the year "Here is how I did the front: I find a 240z front bumper and original mounting brackets. Remove the old 280z bumper and mounting brackets. Use the 280z bolts and bolt the 240z mounting brackets into place in the upper two 280z mounting bracket bolt holes. bend with a pipe wrench until they line up with the 240z bumper. continue to fine tune and test fit. Eventually the side mounting holes on the 240z bumper will line up with the 280z bumper rubber mounting holes. Go to Ace and buy some bolts for these holes. Test fit a bunch and tighten down." He has really nice photos of his 280 so check out the final product. Dave Ruiz

You didn't say what year of Z you have. If you have a 240Z ...Absolutely return the Black Dragon Harness and order one from Dave Irwin. They are plug & play. It took me about 15 minutes to install the harness Dave made for my 76 280Z. If you have a 260 or a 280Z Dave can make one for you if you supply him with 3 plugs. (I don't want to speak for Dave so check with him first). I had the Black Dragon Harness (new in the box) and sold it. So yes... BUY DAVE'S harness! Dave Ruiz

Steve, Nice tip. Thanks for the link to Remy Battery I replicated Dave Irwin's battery cable connection by using battery terminals with allen-bolts. They can be found at stereo shops and there are many brands. I used Raptor brand terminals and Distribution box. The last thing to do is create a cover for the positive terminal. Dave Ruiz 76 280Z
  8. I clicked on the "Classiczcars.com" "Store" under the "Shop" toolbar and got this message. Has anyone else gotten this message? Dave Ruiz
  9. Tyler, Glad I could help! Dave did me a favor by trading a clock for the wires. It's refreshing to deal with people like Dave & Ron at Zclcocks.com. Dave Ruiz
  10. Just wanted to thank Dave Irwin for making a headlight harness for my 76 280Z. I needed to supply some plugs from the 280Z. The workmanship is excellent and my headlights are much brighter. Thanks Dave. Dave Ruiz
  11. Fuel tank parts for a 76 280z particularly the filler tube. Dave Ruiz

Jonathan, Search for "replacing vent line hoses". There is an article that should help you out. I found a bunch of articles here, at zcar.com, and hybrid Z. If you can find the premier issue (Winter 2000) of "Sport Z magazine" There's an article on page 30 about replacing fuel vent lines. Some of the vendors are: your local Nissan Dealer, MSA , Black Dragon, your local auto parts store, McMaste Carr.com. etc. You may have to fabricate a couple of the vent hoses because of the 180 degree bends. This is covered in the above mentioned article. Good luck. Dave Ruiz
  14. Rich, Go to Steve J's reply and click on "Xenon S30" click on "Reference" "Other Guides" "1973-240Z/1974 260Z Fuel System Modification Plus Manual". This is a reference about the Flattop carburetors. Also as Jeff mentioned, check with Tony D. Dave Ruiz
  15. Same here with my Z parts CD and Sentra Parts CD. Made a copy of both of them and have them on my hard drive. I have Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 9. Do you need help with a part? DaveRUiz
  16. You should be able to get the gaskets from Z-Therapy and the hardware from you Z-Threapy, your local hardware store or from an online store. Good luck Dave Ruiz
  17. My 76 failed too when I first bought it. Very high HC's. My mechanic did the following: Replaced the catalytic converter Adjusted the timing Adjusted the Air/Fuel ratio Total cost was about $230.00 Dave Ruiz
  18. I have a converted 76 280Z and used a fuel mechanical fuel pump from a 240 that I got at the junk yard for $9.00. If you go this route get the gaskets and insulators as well. And obviously get a fuel filter for a 240. I believe you can also use a mechanical fuel pump from a 260. Good Luck. Dave Ruiz
  19. When you finally go to get the car smogged get a PRETEST! If you take smog test without getting pretested and the car fails you may be considered a "GROSS POLLUTER" and be subject to yearly smog checks. In other words you'll be on California Air Resources Board S*#T list! Search for discussions about preparing your car for smog testing on this site and check out zcar.com as well. Anyway, Good luck and keep us posted! Dave Ruiz
  20. Hope I'm not too late to chime in. If you can, put new gas in and jump start it at the seller place. You also stated the car hasn't been registered since 2003. Has the previous owner had it registered as non-operative? If he hasn't then someone will need to pay the registration fees since 2003. Also will it pass smog? This is the seller's obligation. If you do buy this get a tune-up. You may want to find out the condition of the Catalytic converter as this effects the emissions and can be one of the reason why a car may not pass smog. I mention this because when I bought my 76 Z in 2002 from someone in the bay area the seller wasn't quite accurate about the condition of the car. For example if you do decide to buy this and the tags aren't current, and the vehicle isn't in any condition to be driven, towing companies, (at least AAA) won't tow a car with expired tags. Also make sure the person who is selling you is the person who has clear title (His name on the pink slip). I really wanted the car I bought even though I should've walked away from the purchase! Fortunately everything worked out. So my point is: Don't do what I did! As Mike suggested previously replace the fluids. Check for rust at the floorboards, tire well, under neath the wheel wells, the frame rails, battery well , behind the rear speaker panels. Check the bushings, condition of the tires (rubber does wear even though it may look ok). If you do finally purchase this beast get a factory service manual from Courtesy Nissan in Texas or download one from carfiche, com. You might also get the DVD's from Ztherapy.com entitled: "Datsun 240Z- 280Z Tune-Up" and "Street Racing Suspensions". The suspension dvd shows you how to replace all the major bushings, shocks and struts on your Z. Best of luck and let us know how things turn out! Dave Ruiz
  21. The former owner of ZTherapy, Scott Bruning, believed the stock air cleaner performed better then the individual air cleaners. This was on the Just Su's or Datsun Z Tune-Up Dvd from ZTherapy. Dave Ruiz
