2006 Japanese Car Show (QLD, Australia)
Yeah, I've been looking forward to it too. Although every time I want to take the car to a meeting or an event, something on the car breaks... It's the clutch this time. Murphy's law I suppose... As long as I don't have to reverse I should be fine

Cam Grinders
I've got a mild cam in my L28 with an N42 head. I'm also running it with flat top pistons, compression in the low to mid tens. The cam came from a place in Brisbane called Tighe cams. It was in the car when I baught it about a year ago. If you want to have a look at the specs, got to http://www.tighecams.com.au/ My cam profile number is 812C I've had a lot of trouble getting the timing correct. Having very little mechanical experience doesn't help :stupid: but even my mechanic (who is very experienced) has had trouble getting the engine to run smoothly. He says there's a fine line between getting it to idle without stalling and making sure that it doesn't lean out in the mid range. We think this is partly because of the SU carbs (round tops) and the stock cam gear. He suggested getting a Vernier cam gear and a richer set of needles for the carbs. All things considered, I still love the performance the the mild cam has to offer and think that the lumpy idle sounds great

choke cable, replace or repair???
I just repaired my choke cable on my 71 a couple of days ago. The cable was sticking inside the sheath making it increasingly difficult to pull on and even more difficult to push off. It was a case of simply taking the cable out of it's sheath and cleaning it, sanding it back with a bit of 'wet and dry' and pouring a bit of oil down the choke cable tubes. It was important to make sure that the cable was dead straight because the slightest kink in the cable makes it very difficult to push it back through. I also shortened the cables slightly to remove the dirty and badly bent cable ends. Another option, as Arne mentioned, is to replace the internal cable with a new one, just make sure that you replace it with a high tensile cable.

71 oct's distributor
You could also check out eBay. I got my 280z electronic distributor for $12.00US in the states and had it sent to Australia. After postage I got it for less than $40.00AU I had to clean it up a bit but it works fine. There's a few on eBay at the moment. Just search under 'car parts' Datsun, distributor.

E12-80 Module on a 280z Distributor?
I installed the 280z distributor with the E12-80 Ignition module over the weekend and it works just fine. I just fabricated an aluminum bracket and mounted the module on it. Then I bolted it on where the resistor used to be under the coil. Even with the mild cam it's idling a lot smoother now, although it's running a bit hot so I'll probably need to adjust the timing a little.

280 Dizzy cap and rotor?
Hi guys, I'm having a bit of trouble trying to find a cap and rotor for my 280z electronic distributor. In searching through Bosch catalogues I can only find reference to 240z, 260z and 280zx. I know that the 280z and 280zx distributor differ slightly but I'm not sure if a zx cap and rotor will work with a 280z dizzy. I've called most of the major outlets, Auto one, Repco, Super cheap auto, auto barn and none of them have a listing fo the 280z. I getting the dizzy recurved as we speak and would like to bung it in the car over the weekend... If I can get my hands on the parts. Cheers, Bill

E12-80 Module on a 280z Distributor?
Hi guys, I got my 240z about a year ago and I've been cruising this site ever since then. It's taken me a year but I think I'm getting my head around the mechanicle side of things... Having no mechanicle experience at all :squareeye I want to know if I can put an E12-80 Ignition module out of a 280zx on a 280z electronic distributor? As far as I know the 280zx ignition module mounts directly onto the side of the distributor, where as the 280z distributor has no area to mount the ignition module on it. I was just going to fabricate a plate that I can mount on the side of the 280z distributor and then screw the ignition module onto that. Any input would ne great. Cheers!

Another z bites the dust
I was driving home yesterday after work and passed a white 280z that had T-boned a taxi. The cabie was doing a U-ie at an intersection and the Zed was speeding to get through the lights. Looks like the Zed was going way to fast because there wasn't much left of the front end of the Zed. Looks like a write off. I don't think anyone was badly hurt. Speeding during peek hour traffic isn't a good idea... Too many inattentive freaks on the road all at once, fighting for pole position.

Yep, these pics are from the ad on carsales.com They're good enough for the moment. I've got the forms filled out to join the Brisbane z club, just gotta send them off. Sounds like a good place to get good advice.

Side of 240z
Two silver Datsun Z's in the family that both look great... I'll have to get my brother to buy one now

Yeah, they look good on yours. I could just buff them myself with a rag wheel and some buffing compound, but if it's cheep to have it done I could save myself some time. How much did you pay?
