Rumble noise in the back end
I am having my struts replaced next week - scheduled with the Z-Man at `Z-Specialies' in Clearview WA to do the work. I will also him take a look at what you recommended regarding the U-Joints and mounts. Thanks for your reply. Dan.

John, Replace the transmission? Why? Also, the Front diff. mounts? Not clear on what `front diff. mounts are'. Dan.

Shortening Struts
My 73 240Z has been lowered as well. I bought my car back in 1978 and the original owner before me (I am the 2nd owner) did the special suspension. There is no doubt in all of these years that I have had a lot of nice comments on how the car looks so much better than other Z's because it rides lower than stock. However, it no doubt can be a rough ride. Yes it handles corners very nicely, but now that it is 24 years later and I am now in my mid 40's (oh god), this ride can get a little too stiff for me. Speed bumps can be killer (I had a friend who weighed 350 lbs and I had to make him get out of the car before crossing speedbumps or we would bottom out). I am presently looking to get new Struts installed to help get a better smoother ride, yet maintain the performance. But I do not want to raise the car back up. I know... I can't have the cake and eat it too. I'm not expecting a luxery car ride, but I definitely need as much as I can get. Does anybody have a suggestions or recommendations as to what Struts I should get installed or anything else I should know? Dan.

Wood steering wheel
Bill, Got your reply. Make me an offer. Otherwise I will get back to ya on how much in the next few days. This will be my first Z part I ever sold, so I have no idea what it goes for. I read the reply from EScanlon and I believe he is correct on that the steering wheels are actually not wood, but a type of plastic with a wood-grain look. However, it shouldn't matter as the important thing is - it is the original. As for it being in storage, the steering wheel has only been used a few years, as I am the 2nd owner of the car and bought the car from the original owner (whom I still have contact with) somewhere around 1978. The original owner installed the racing steering wheel and gave me the original one (as well as a few other original items like wheel covers) in a box. I just put the box into my attic. So I am a little off on my original guess of 15 years. It is more like 24 years+/- in storage. Dan.

Rumble noise in the back end
Whoa. I didn't know this rumbling noise was so common. I have a 73 240Z and also have this rumbling noise that occurs, but only at times. My suspension is lowered (about a 4" clearance off the road), so I was always told by mechanics that the angle between the U-joints to the driveshaft/differential is the culprit (because the car is lower than stock). The rumbling on mine however, occurs only at times, which I have no idea why and it can drive me nuts. I do notice that it is most prominant on my Z between the speeds of 50 to 65 mph. So I just cruise between 70+ mph whenever I can. My car just purrs over 70+. However, the officers never believe me when I have to explain this to them. Dan.

Wood steering wheel
I own a 73 240Z. I presently have a racing steering wheel installed in my Z. The original steering wheel (wood) has been safely in storage and has been there for over 15 years. Let me know if you are still looking for one. Dan.
