  1. I love that car. If I didn't already have a really nice driver 240Z, I'd be all over that one.
  2. IIRC, the plugs need to be BSP thread (British Standard Pipe). But in my experience on these, if the first fitting you try doesn't break loose fairly easily, you may as well stop there and not waste any time on it. If they are rusted, no amount of PB Blaster or whatever will get them out. I'll echo the comment above - you'll probably either want to live with it as is, or swap to a header. If either of the manifold studs at the ends of the exhaust manifold are broken or bent, definitely don't waste your time and plan for a header, as that is an indication that the manifold has warped.

No, was 55, now 56. I updated it right after I posted.
  4. Mark, the emission controls on a '71 240Z are simple, with few parts, and really very little effect on how the car runs. Looking at the pictures of yours, it has already been de-smogged. On your car the smog pump and associated plumbing has already been removed, and the air injection on the exhaust manifold has been capped. The vacuum ports on the manifold balance tube have been capped off where the anti-backfire valve (for the air injection) and throttle opener have been removed. Generally, no carb adjustments are necessary, or even desirable. So I'd say it's done, and not to worry about it. Nothing additional is needed. You could remove the air injection rail from the exhaust manifold and plug the holes for appearance sake, but it doesn't hurt anything where it's at, and chances are that it'll be rusted in place and not easily removable anyway.

I guess I can pull that out, if people don't like it. On the other hand, I just sold more parts to another new buyer - yet another Z for the list!
  6. HLS30-37705, build date 7/71. First five are from three years ago when I bought it, the last two are a couple of months ago.

Since that post in April, I talked about a two muffler Magnaflow system with a local shop, but then found a NOS Monza rear section similar to your Ansa, which I installed on my existing system. The Monza addition looks and sounds good enough to allow me more time to select or build a final solution. I've got some ideas brewing on that as well, but I'm not going to get into that until I get the S30 Bolder Tint project wrapped up. Realistically, that probably won't happen until after the first of the year.

Where does it hit the tranny?
  9. 2 more today, 61%. Almost there...
  10. Just to whet your appetites:
  11. All I need is the pair of advance weight return springs, so I really don't want to trash a good dizzy for that. I'll keep waiting for a worn out one, if this car doesn't have one.
  12. Received payment for 5 more today, up to 58%. Probably need another 5 paid in advance to proceed. We're finally getting close.
  13. Clive, if the distributor is original, I'd like it, regardless of wear.
  14. For a '73 all locks should use the same key.
  15. Haven't seen them in person, but I believe they are repros made in Thailand or somewhere close.
  16. Nope, those are only correct through 12/70 or so.
  17. Outstanding work! I love the fact that you're staying with mostly stock interior and exterior. The mechanical is a bit over the top for my taste, but well done. Obviously, this one is a work of love. You are undoubtedly into this car far more than you could sell it for. And I'm OK with that, too.

Regarding the first question, years of doing my own maintenance on many cars has taught me to not take half measures, because related things do fail together. So if I was going to replace my radiator, I'd normally plan on replacing all the hoses, thermostat, pump, etc. as part of the job.
  19. True, but I allowed for that. The Series 1 I parted did have much of the interior, and I ended up selling almost $3000 worth of stuff off it. This one will not generate that much, not unless there are more cool parts than what I see in the auction.
  20. Richard, a 240Z only has one tow hook bolted to the frame at the right front (2 large bolts). They also had three shipping tie downs, one on the left front and one on each rear bumper bracket. The three shipping tie downs were supposed to have been removed by the selling dealer during the pre-delivery prep. Many dealers apparently skipped that step. Good discussion on this in this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23699
  21. I've parted a couple of '71s in the past. Being that the car in question is a Series 1, I'd have to agree that parting it out should net someone $1000 or more. If it was close to me I'd probably do it.
  22. Still at 50%. Third day in a row with no checks in the mail. We're so close, but can't seem to make the final burst. Dang!
  23. Good point, Jon. I guess it all depends on the end goal. I don't need a lot of downforce for my street driving so I wouldn't necessarily looking for the "best", just a good combo of function and period correct looks. That's probably not the same parameters the original poster is looking for.
  24. At this point, just cross your fingers or whatever you do for luck. If we all can be patient, I think we'll get there. I have payment in hand now for 30 of the required 60. I have updates from buyers of another 11 telling me their checks are either in the mail or will be very shortly. If that happens, I think I can cover the remainder and will place the order. I also have inquiries on an additional 8, but no payment or payment status on those yet.
  25. That was actually the original plan. Will still happen if I can move the leftovers.
