Heatshield after header install
You don't have to use the original heatshield, but as Bruce notes, you WILL want a heatshield of some sort there.

Accent stripe
Pull the emblems off, install the stripes, use a sharp exacto knife to cut the emblem holes through the stripe, re-install the emblems. Nothing to it.

240z Radiator
To the best of my knowledge, there are no replacement radiators with the fan guard. Your best bet is to find a old-fashioned radiator shop who will re-core an original. Finding a shop willing to do that is getting harder, and if you find one it'll cost you more than any replacement. Most shops don't want to solder and braise anymore, all they want to do is replace. But when needed, I will have my original repaired, not replaced, no matter how much more it might cost.

Accent stripe
Jerry Purcell may already have the original style in red. I know he does black and white. Either way, I'm certain he already has the correct pattern. The originals were not as shown in the picture you attached, the logo was cut out of the strip, not the other way around. Like in mally02's sig pic, which I load below. Either way, you might want to send Jerry a PM at JLPurcell.

Rear speaker panel install
There is a mounting tab welded to the hatch opening, but the actual support bracket is bolted to the welded tab. Once the lower support is unbolted, the welded tab is smaller and has no protrusions on the back side. Your panel should be able to flex enough to go in then.

Can you ID these calipers?
Master cylinder ports had already changed by '72, only the '70-71 cars had the reversed ports. This should not be your issue.

Can you ID these calipers?
Those look like rear calipers from an early Maxima, or something similar. A very common rear disc conversion part. The Toyota 4x4 calipers are used on the front to give four piston front brakes, rather than the stock two piston units from a normal Z.

1 way to put a smile on her face
Steve, could you (or Toni) take a picture of the rear from straight behind the car for me? I'd like to see how well you were able to get the big oval muffler tucked up in there. Did the install of the system give you any problems?

1971 Datsun 240 Z near perfect - $19900 (san jose downtown)
Hard to say from here. Pictures make it appear that all the stuff that should be cad plated under the hood have been painted gold. And the console is not for a '71 either, so maybe the hubcaps are correct and it's really a '72?

One and only - 1974 Datsun 260 ZX, factory V-8 and original!
A seller with 0 feedback and a stupid asking price? I figured it was a scam from the beginning. And as of this morning, the auction is gone, pulled by eBay.

American Racing Equipment Catalog 9-70
American still sells some of their classic caps. Like this one? http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=areacc&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=626552760&Count2=543693184

Original Tire and Spare Specs for 75 280Z?
No Michelins. Bridgestone and Toyo for sure, and Yokohama for some years.

Original Tire and Spare Specs for 75 280Z?
No Wyatts come immediately to mind.

Original Tire and Spare Specs for 75 280Z?
Toyo was an alternate supplier to Nissan for earlier cars, and probably for later Zs as well. The 702 model is about the correct vintage, so as a guess I'd say it's original.

Front Grill info needed
The '70-72 are all the same. The '73 is a bit different in mounting points, I believe.

Paint update on #797
I dunno, Mike. Maybe #32 is the oddball. My Series 1 (RIP) only had two holes on the right side as well, so that looks to be consistent with these two early cars. (My Series 2 has 3 holes on both sides.) But my yellow car had the exact same crease near the left bumper mount. The yellow car showed no other evidence of damage there, so I always assumed it was a stamping artifact.

American Racing Equipment Catalog 9-70
Yeah, I'll have to keep my eyes open for a set down here. But please don't tell my wife I'm looking for yet another set of wheels... :paranoid:

American Racing Equipment Catalog 9-70
Good stuff, Mike, thanks for sharing. From my perspective as an ex-tire/wheel guy, it is interesting to note: 1.) Like the Shelby catalog you posted a while back, this AR book shows that the definition of 'offset' has reversed over the intervening years. 2.) In 1970, the only magnesium LeMans sizes for a Datsun were 14x6 and 14x6.5. Nothing wider. Magnesium Libres were only offered in 13". 3.) American did not make 14" 4 lug slot mags in 1970. They must have been the only company who didn't! 4.) Aluminum LeMans was touted for European applications because the only size offered was 15x5.5, and while they did offer it in the Datsun bolt circle there was no such thing as low profile tires then, so no way to use them on a Z. That size and bolt pattern was intended for use on Triumphs, MGAs and similar Brit cars. Today though, you could use 185/65, 195/65, 195/60 or even 205/60-15 on those wheels. The best of both worlds, in my opinion - true period mags, but with modern rubber. I want a set!

SU Carb advice
I've heard Roadsters, and possibly some VERY early Zs as well.

Coil power?????
The electrical switch on the back of the ignition lock can be replaced separately from the key part. No need to have separate keys. Don't sweat that issue. In fact, the electrical switch is relatively affordable - about $25 or so, as I recall.

Original Tire and Spare Specs for 75 280Z?
If the '75 280Z still had a full size spare (as I recall), the spare would have been the same as the four on the ground. The original size was 195/70HR14. As I recall, the original brand was generally (if not always) Bridgestone. I don't recall the model.

HELP! All Mechanical Eliminated- Wont rev past 4K
Interestingly enough, I have been experiencing the same issue on mine. Felt like a 4000 RPM rev limiter. Just today I finally got a change in symptom by advancing the timing more. My current theory is that the timing pointer is not correct, and that I was running it very much retarded. Try advancing the timing about 10 degrees more than what it is now and see if that helps.

16x7 Rota RB and Eibachs
No recent experience, but 16x7 +4 should be fine with either 205/55-16 or 205/50-16, even lowered. You might even get away with 225/50-16. The only place I'd expect any possible rubbing would be when turning at the front valance, assuming no air dam. Any good tire shop should be willing to mount a tire and test fit it for you, before mounting the entire set. Watch the right front during the trial fitment.

Early Shift Boots
Excellent info. I figured there must be a suitable alternative out there somewhere. While I'm happy that I still have my original grommet, if I needed one this looks like it would do just fine.

stock rims
No, 14x5.5 steel wheels were standard on the base model 280ZX from '79-81. (14x6 Iron Crosses were optional.) Not sure about the '82 and '83 models. The '79-81 with steel rims came with these hubcaps.
