OK, that's the one. My eyes must be getting bad, I had gone to ZTherapy's site and could have sworn that the linkages pictured there didn't have it. Of course, when I go back today and really stare at them, now I see it. So I just let it rattle around there?

My SUs arrived yesterday. A decent set of 4 screw round-tops on E88 manifolds. After searching and studying old posts and pictures, I think I've got it all figured out - what connects where and such. But I noticed that the center linkage between my carbs doesn't look like other pictures, it seems to have an extra lever near the front carb. (See pics below.) Would this have perhaps been for the optional hand throttle?

On the opposite end of the spectrum, here's the auction where I just scored some clutch parts - as an eBay seller sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you you get hosed. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8005852303

No, he started them at $1.00. The $500 price was what they bid! In fact, look at the bid history - two different people were willing to pay $500 for those lights. Now I will admit that they appear to be better than mine, the chrome strips were described has having some pitting. Mine are not just pitted, but peeling. And one of my chrome strips is broken as well. But other than that, mine are probably just as good. No way I'd pay that much for those.

Shoot, the ratty ones in my car must be worth $250-300 then! That's nuts! :stupid:

Thanks to you both. As for the heat riser, I won't be using one at all, since I will still have the cast exhaust manifold from the ZX on it for the foreseeable future. One thing at a time.

I'm gathering the parts to get rid of the injection on my 71 240Z (installed with the L28), and have a couple more questions: My carbs arrived today (4 screw round tops on an E88 manifold set). I'm going to need a heat shield. Will any heat shield ('70-74) work? Or do I need one that came with round tops? Also, I'm going to go to the local pick-n-pull to find an RX7 fuel pump. Anyone know where Mazda mounted these units? Underneath, near the tank, I assume?

Thanks for reminding me, I'm going to need that as well. Not sure how soon I'll have all the parts gathered up, but I will be installing a '71 4 speed box, Ty. If you still have that later down the road, I may be in touch. But for now, if it will work for Shane, he's got dibs.

I agree, the Webers and the early front bumper together are worth more than what you paid for the car. Good luck with the rust repair. Yours looks worse than mine, but I think it can be salvaged. I've been told the best replacement floors come from Zedd Findings in Canada.

There are several sources now other than Apple for battery replacement kits that a handy person can install at home. A couple of examples: http://www.smalldog.com http://www.macsales.com I also have a 3rd gen iPod (only 10 GB), and even have an FM modulator for it. If I had the choice, I'd try to get a head unit (or amp) with Aux. input, rather than FM or cassette adapters.

Hi, all. I've been hanging out and posting here for a few months now, but since I now do own a Z, thought it was time to go public. I live in Oregon, about 40 miles South of Mike, and 110 miles South of Gary (Beandip). Corresponded with both of them prior to my recent purchase. I now own a Series I 240Z, HLS30-12746. I won't go into detail here, because I am blogging my progress at the site linked in my signature. Don't expect a how-to site with lots of pictures as everything unfolds, because I can't be bothered to wash up to grab the camera when I'm working on the car. But if you wish, follow along as I make slow headway.

Yours appear to be worse than mine. The rust holes in mine are larger but are just one localized hole per side, not spread out as yours are. I will probably just do the patch panel on mine, but I might replace them if they looked like yours. Just my opinion, of course.
  13. If anyone really does get in touch with Danny's, I'd love to hear about it. I've e-mailed and left a message on his phone, no reply to either.

My Z will have to sit outdoors at times, and I looked at the Tyvek covers but decided on a traditional Technalon (aka Evolution) cover instead. I ordered a custom fitted cover (early Z with small bumpers, one mirror pocket) from MSA. It should be here today, or perhaps early next week at the latest. I'll post a review after I get it.
  15. Yes, it does. I saw it in the last row of pics on his page.

I don't think it has anything to do with RHD, but it just has to be that way for fit. If you have a transmission out of the car and look at it, you'll see that the bellhousing is flared out on the right side for the starter. The tunnel is flared on that side to match.

No reason I can see that a ZX engine would be bad. My 240Z came with one in it. The ZX engines aren't all that much different than the Z 2.8s. I'd be much more concerned about what the brand new paint might be hiding...
  18. Arne replied to gator's post in a topic in Body & Paint
    Yeah, that's a given.

Good to know. So to summarize, if I need to replace the doors on my early '71 (and I may need to), I can use later doors (with minor mods) as long as they have the same type door striker. Probably up through '76, subject to verification. Sound right?

The overflows from the SUs on my old '67 MGB were just routed under the car. Times change...

That is generally true for turn signals, but hazard relays are typically designed to flash any good bulbs, even if one or more are burned out.
  22. Arne replied to winstonsmith's post in a topic in Electrical
I should clarify - it's not the bulbs because when I switch on the hazards all the bulbs (both front and all 6 rear) flash at a normal rate. I doubt that it is the relay causing the right side no flash, as it works (slowly) for the left side. I'll probably replace it anyway to speed up the flash. My best guess right now is the column switch.

How odd. The '71 I picked up last weekend is the opposite - the left side blinks (a bit slowly), and the right side does nothing at all. No click, no light, no nothing. It's not the bulbs because the hazards work normally. I'll post back when I find it.

Yup, off an '83 ZX. Yes, it has all the components, but no it was not installed properly. Pretty much cobbled together by a previous owner (twice removed). I thought about trying to debug it, but the guy I bought the car from is giving me a set of '71 SUs with manifold and airbox. I figure it'll be simpler to go back to the carbs than it would be to fix the injection, as I'd pretty much have to start over.
