Who has owned their Z the longest?
Plenty of original owners out there. I have a close-by neighbor (not a member here) who's had his since August, 1970.

Wiring Fog Lights on the Early Z
I've connected my headlight and parking light relays to the battery terminal on the starter solenoid rather than the battery terminal itself. Much cleaner looking.

"Question on Eibach spring part number
Neither Eibach nor anyone else currently builds stock replacement springs for 240Z, to my knowledge. Arizona Z Cars offers a much stiffer performance spring that doesn't lower the car, but that about it today. Actually, I've never heard of Eibach making non-performance springs for any cars. Where did you hear of these?

What size Thread/Diameter for Engine Stand mounting? - F54
Definitely 10mm, and between 60-70 mm long. I can't remember if they are 1.25 or 1.5 pitch.

Mylar logo'd sunshades - Completed
Final size of the new product will be reduced from the 5 1/8" of the test papers to 4.5-4.75" to match measurements taken from originals. The logo characters will be 3" tall. Still working to optimize the curve of the top edge, while allowing for the fact that there will be differences from car to car depending on the condition and manufacturer of the windshield gasket. I think we're actually real close on this now. Latest work on the font/typeface is attached.

Looking for auto trans lines at radiator.
Richard, it wouldn't be totally original, but most hydraulic shops should be able to build replicas for you. No hose clamps needed.

Mylar logo'd sunshades - Completed
Due to some late requests, I have increased the order of the 'DATSUN' sunshades from 20 to 24. We are approaching the time when no further additions will be possible, so if you are interested and haven't got on board yet, don't wait much longer. The changes to the template size and shape have slowed the process some. I no longer think it likely that these will be shipped prior to Christmas. Possible, but not likely. Sorry for the delays, but we all want them to be right, and that is taking time. Updated availability stats (12/7/09): Item | 240-Z | DATSUN | Total | ------------------------------------------- Ordered | 40 | 24 | 64 | Paid for | 35 | 21 | 56 | Pending | 1 | 0 | 1 | ------------------------------------------- Available | 4 | 3 | 7 |

Excellent info, Michael, thank you! I have forwarded that and a couple of the pictures to the manufacturer for additional template tweaking. Best guess on the font at this point is that BRE and the original Bolder Tints used something very similar to "Eurostile Bold Extended #2".

headlight help
To clarify a little - the headlight bucket assembly is attached to the inside of the fender by four screws. You change the headlight by removing the four screws and the bucket assembly from inside the wheel opening. So there is no reason that you body guy can't install the headlight scoops as necessary, because you won't need to remove them to install or service the lights later.

headlight help
None of this makes sense. The headlight buckets mount to the INSIDE of the fender. No need to disturb the scoops at all. Tell the guy to ignore the headlights and get to work.

Strut insulators
Mark, I just saw this thread. I think what you may want to find is a set of the Nissan Euro Stage 1 springs - either original or a set of the reproduction set that Courtesy sold a few years ago. I'm betting someone around here still has a set from the Courtesy run. What those of us who installed those springs found was they they will raise the ride height of a US-spec 240Z by at least 3/4". I had to cut down my set significantly to get the ride height back down to stock. If you are truly wanting to raise yours to higher than stock height, those would be what I would use.

Replacement seat covers-QUALITY??
While my car still has the old 38 year old vinyl and foam, I have personally seen the replacement covers sold by Classic Datsun Motorsport on another car, and they are an amazingly accurate match for my originals. They are probably what I will use when the time comes someday.

Having trouble getting tank and filler to line up.
Richard, I'd still consider replacing it, despite it's apparent good condition. I recently replaced the original on my '71, only because the top flange was so crushed that the gas cap ring would no longer seal and gas would slosh out if I turned left turn with the tank full. The key issue is that while I felt that the original was not bad other than the top flange, I was amazed at how soft and flexible the new replacement was. If yours is stiff and hard, I'd guess that it will be hard to get it to seal well. I got mine from my local dealer, part #17208-N3050, price after club discount was less than $80.

Perhaps, and I'll be researching that angle as well. But on the other hand, the current BRE website graphics make heavy use of what appears to be the same font. It will be interesting to see if I get any response, and what that response might be.

Yes, Carl, I did. That was before we found that some of the original stencils were missing. So we are working on that now. On Friday I sent a message to info@bre2.net to inquire about the use of the original BRE font. No reply yet, but it's the weekend. If you've got any influence with Peter and Gayle, it might help.

Any thought on having a car wrapped in vinyl?
The paint underneath that film better be damn smooth. You'll see every chip and flaw under it. If you're going to have to put that much effort into the prep, you might as well just paint it anyway.

Test fitting the pre-production mockups is underway. There will need to be some minor tweaks to the shape of the template, based on my tests. And as mentioned in the previous post, the font/typeface has not been finalized yet.

I paid $14 and change for mine locally. The local store I buy from didn't stock them but had them in overnight with no shipping.

R-T diff mount Group Buy
Installed mine this morning. Took about 2 hours. I did not completely drop the diff as I was lazy and didn't want to disconnect the driveshaft or halfshafts. Was probably a bit harder that way, but not too bad. The mount was a VERY snug fit into my car's tunnel. Took some persuading to get it up far enough to get the bolts in place. Nothing too bad, but some work, none the less. I used the stock mount on the crossmember with a black #9.9101G bumpstop as noted earlier in this thread. On my car with the R180 in the stock '70-71 (forward) position and a reasonably fresh lower mount, I had to trim three 1/4" steps off the bumpstop (3/4" total, see attached picture). This gave me a really snug fit, there is pressure on the bumpstop at all times. I didn't want it to get too sloppy if bumpstop breaks in. Tried to grab a few pictures under the car as I worked, but I'm not going to bother posting them. I painted the R-T mount black, the bumpstop is black, the diff is black, and my car was undercoated when new (you guessed it, black) so even with the flash you really can't see anything. Test drive went fine. Since my car's lower mount was fairly new, any clunks I had weren't from that, so I expected no real change there, and there wasn't any. I could not tell any difference in NVH, either.

Today's trivia. I was conversing with the owner of the company who makes these about the font or typeface used. We have been discussing how closely the original typeface can be duplicated. Here's an interesting tidbit, not just referring to the font used for the 240Z or Datsun sunshades, but all of the originals. "...were hand cut stencils from fonts used by Pete Brock at the BRE shop." Now that he brought that to my attention, it's obvious. Compare the '4' in the 240-Z original sunshade to the numbers (46) on Ron Carter's BRE re-creation. I wonder if Pete now has electronic versions of that font, and if so, what it would take to be able to get use of it for these?

Starting Issues: Car acts like battery is dead.
Rob has a good point. I'd also add that you mention the battery is fine. What tests show that the battery is fine? How did you determine that?

Oil pump upgrade
Both turbo pumps have the same higher PSI rating, the auto pump is said to have higher volume as well because the automatics had an oil cooler and needed the extra volume. Not sure if the extra volume is worth the $30.

How do I test a 280 clock?
Actually, it just looks smooth. Your Rolex (like most other Swiss-made mechanical movements) ticks at 8 times per second. Most Japanese mechanicals tick at 6 beats per second.
