ZX alternator?
Diode is only needed on 240Z, not on 280Zs.

Metal 240z Emblems/Badges?
Ahh. Good question! No, I don't think they have been. A mistake in my post above. All emblems other than the pillar vents were plastic on later cars.

ZX alternator?
While the improvement for a 280Z is less than for a 240Z, it is still worthwhile, especially if you need an alternator anyway. The adapters you mention won't fit a 280Z, and really aren't needed anyway. All you need there is a couple of small jumper wires to replace the external regulator.

1971 door seals
The seals MSA sells are made by Precision. The door seals that come in the full kit are the later one-piece type. I am not totally happy with them on my '71. While they mostly look OK, the black scuff plate doesn't fit over them well, and it bothers me if I look at it. Eventually I'll try to get the correct style seal, I kept the original welting for mine.

Metal 240z Emblems/Badges?
Early emblems were all metal. I believe the hatch vents were always plastic. Somewhere down the road, Nissan replaced the metal emblems with plastic to save costs. My 7/71 car has all plastic, and all are original. The 10/70 car I parted out had metal hood, fender and pillar emblems. The deck emblems were long gone by the time I got the car, so I don't know for certain about them. I'd say that a 3/70 car probably should have come with all metal emblems, so the plastic ones now on your car are probably replacements.

Roberts Competition's Exhaust
Mark, I think the 1 3/4" he noted was the dual pipe size, not the header primary size.

Roberts Competition's Exhaust
In the rust belt, yes, stainless is worth it. Here out West, stainless is unnecessary. Aluminized out here can last for decades.

Roberts Competition's Exhaust
I think if I were going to do it, I'd repro the connecting tubes to mate up with the un-merged collectors from an MSA 6-into-2 header. Easily available, and should be easy to fab.

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
OK. That being the case, to get true performance rubber in a size suitable for a 240Z with 14x6 wheels, you're going to want to go to a different size. There are no good performance options in 195/70-14 anymore. The most common sizes that others with 14" use these days are 205/60-14, with a few using 215/60-14. Both of these sizes are both shorter and wider than the size you now have - the 205 being the smaller of the two. The selection of tires will be greatest in the 205/60-14, even the 215/60 is becoming a rare size any more.In the 205/60 you should be able to find tires by Kumho, Falken, Yokohama and more. Most any of those will do better than what you have now. If you do decide to shop for Z tires at Schwab, the ones they market under the Ohtsu Ziex label are the same as similar Falkens - Ohtsu is the parent company of Falken. Those are probably the only performance tires they will have available in a suitable size. I know that there are at least one or two others here who are interested in cloning that system. ToXic for one. Check out his thread:http://classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32243

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
Bob, the choices for true performance rubber in 14" sizes are becoming rather meager. Before I go any farther than that, knowing that you are in Central Oregon, my first question will be whether you shop at Schwab, or elsewhere?

Teach me about my z car (1971 240z Series II)
That's what most of us who own them think. And actually, you'll have plenty of company in Washington, and down here into Oregon as well. Some of the local Datsun gatherings are quite well attended.

Core support holes
Possibly, good thought.

Core support holes
While I don't have any pictures right now to confirm it, I'm certain my car does not have anything similar. My best guess is that the car pictured may have had an oversized radiator mounted in it at some point.

Transmission Mount Issue
Bear in mind I used that auction only as a picture example. My experience tells me that if that particular eBay seller is selling them as "NOS", what that really means is that you can buy it brand new from your Nissan dealer's parts department, often for less. Plus that seller charges a pile for shipping.

Transmission Mount Issue
No, not of that part. (Other miscellaneous parts, yes, but not this one.) But it looked just like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240z-260z-280z-280zx-Transmission-Mount-NOS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1240Q7c39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem370095737769QQitemZ370095737769#ht_500wt_0

Transmission Mount Issue
Interestingly, the rear transmission mount in mine is one of the very few parts that I have bought from BD, part number #62-700. I've had that mount in my prior yellow 240Z (10/70) and later moved it to the current red 240Z (7/71) when I began parting the yellow car out. It worked(s) fine in both. However, I did buy it from them more than two years ago.

Engine Stand Question
The thread pitch is 1.25. I can't recall whether they are 12 mm or 10 mm. It's one or the other. 12 sounds correct to me as well.

Powder blue air cleaner correct?
I've heard that some of the replacement airboxes from the dealer parts department were blue. But the originals (here in the States, at least) were all orange. Also, I believe that your 11/70 would have come with the snorkel and Summer/Winter flap.

Maybe a dumb question.. snowboards?
Probably not the right car for you then. A light-weight, short wheelbase car like a classic Z is not all that great in slippery conditions. And all classic Zs are rust magnets. Neither bodes well for your needs as an only car.

need help, erratic engine
I'm wondering about insufficient fuel pressure, not keeping the float bowls full. How old and what type is the fuel pump?

window roller guide
I'll almost guarantee the the clip has broken off of the one you found in the bottom of the door, and the the rest is still clipped under the stainless trim.

Bamper Placement
The reason you couldn't find it in a search is because I don't think anyone else has ever called it by its real name! Try this thread I found by searching for 'window roller'. http://classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31669
