Differential Damper
In theory, neither the differential not the cross-part of the sway bar should be moving up or down with suspension travel. The diff should be fairly firm, and only move under torque loads. The sway bar should twist, but the center part should never move vertically. If there is movement of this type with suspension travel, one or the other of these parts are not mounted securely.

New Z for sale on ebay
Well, for here out West, no, probably not. But in Connecticut? Sure, you can buy a car like that out here for a lot less, but then you have to get it shipped, and how do you spend that much on a car without checking it over in person? As a clean, East Coast car with little or no rust, $21k probably isn't out of line.

New Z for sale on ebay
I think the one he's talking about is this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1972-DATSUN-240Z-2-DR-COUPE-TROPHY-WINNER_W0QQitemZ380063093816QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item380063093816&_trkparms=39%3A1|65%3A1|240%3A1308&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 Not bad, but I'd rather buy this one inste4ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1971-DATSUN-240Z_W0QQitemZ280267272795QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item280267272795&_trkparms=39%3A1|65%3A1|240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

Am. Racing Magnesiums, anyone?
I'm still hunting for the perfect set of vintage rims for my car. When I find them, I'll consider Terry for the restoration if needed. His work appears to be great.

Media Blasting Resurrection of the Horns
OK, I was wrong. I went out and looked, my 7/71 car has the black horns as pictured above by Mike B. The dark olive horns must have been on one of the two cars I parted, either 10/70 or 4/71. I'll look through my notes and pictures to see if I can figure out which.

This is off-topic, but Carl and Ron, your cars are gorgeous! Two BIG thumbs up!

Well, he may be slow, but he's good... They look great!

NOS bumpers, butterscotch seats, 2400 ohc cover (and car)
Seth, I ended up buying a new aftermarket windshield when I painted mine. All the used Nissan glass I found were pitted, or had wiper blade scrapes.

Media Blasting Resurrection of the Horns
Mine are the same. Same color as used on the seat sliders.

I was going to say, if it was close to me I'd already have it at that price.

Last known 1970?
Interesting as trivia, but meaningless. Many states in the US had different rules on titling and registration. As long as the car was sold prior to the end of the year, it was legal to title it as a '70 in some states. My yellow car was a 10/70, so one month prior to that car. The emissions sticker under the hood said it conformed to 1971 model year standards. That tells me that - regardless what the production date and title say - Nissan considered it to be a 1971 model year car. I'll bet that the sticker for the car in the auction (probably long gone by now) said the same.

crankshaft pulley
Yes, for late '71 and newer.
-
S30 Production dates
No. Nissan does not have those records, or if they do, they are not available to the public.

Transmission Rebuild
I bought the gaskets, seals and synchro rings from Nissan. Got the bearings from a local bearing specialist.

HELP! Clutch grinding, very stiff 1st shift!
Not even all 240Zs, just the '70-71.Replacing both is a good idea. Might look at the hose to the slave too. If it's showing any age, this would be the time to change it out.

HELP! Clutch grinding, very stiff 1st shift!
I'm still leaning towards a rapidly failing slave cylinder. That air got in there past a seal somewhere. Bleeding won't totally fix it if the cylinder itself is going bad.

Classic Motorsports (Nov. 2008)
I don't recall anything in particular. Definitely no new revelations. As most people have noted, it's very difficult to compare a 240Z to a modern 350Z. Different times...

Classic Motorsports (Nov. 2008)
It's not really stock anymore. That car has had pretty regular coverage in the magazine. The original L24 is still in it, but it has been mildly massaged.http://classicmotorsports.net/project-cars/1970-datsun-240z/

Memoirs of your past Datsuns
I thought about asking that question, but decided it might be inappropriate! Thanks for sharing that!As for previous Datsun's, I'll need to dig through stacks of pictures and see if my scanner still works. Because all my extended family's Datsun history prior to my Zs was more than 25 years back. A '74 B210, '69 520, '74 620 and an '81 720 4x4. A high school buddy had a '73 610 coupe, too.

Discussing 240Z values, especially Low VIN
I've got a good spare early 4 speed here in Oregon. I've been planning to keep it just in case, but for the right price...

eBay audacity
Take my roof donor. It was a Series 1, but #12746 is not a very sexy number. Changing it to #4944 might improve its value a bit. Of course, now that it's "topless"...

anyone have big pics of flattops and roundtops?
No offense, Bruce, but the pictures and even the the website layout could use some help. But even so, I don't expect anything different. You guys work on carbs, not websites. About 85% yes. Still haven't been able to find out what time it all starts, though. That's NOT on the website.
