What classic car is this?
A Beta is a Lancia, not an Alfa. Not that long ago I saw a reference to an "Austin Martin".... sigh.

What classic car is this?
People. It's ALFA ROMEO, not ALPHA ROMEO. Please.

New member from Norway...
I have to admit that—even though my official responsibility ended when I handed it off to the transport driver—there is a huge sense of relief in knowing that it arrived safely. After weeks of winter to clean and fiddle with the car, I suspect you will be very familiar with the entire car long before you get a chance to really drive it, Terje.

Later years had uncovered headlights and a truncated rear. The early ones with the rear you pictured and headlight covers are best.

Great news, Terje! It took longer than I would have thought, but it appears to have arrived safely. I know that you will be eagerly awaiting clear roads!

Aluminum Rim Identification
It's what I do, yes.

Aluminum Rim Identification
The wheels are a late '80s/early '90s knock-off of an original Enkei design. The knock-offs were made by several different companies, I'd need close-ups of both the front and back of the wheel to pin it any closer than that. As a first guess, I'd say American Eagle, or maybe Prime.

looking for a 240z project or complete car...
If you find one you like here in Oregon, shoot me a PM. I've done the overseas bit, and could act as an agent for you. Others here might be willing to do this in other parts of the country.

manual & auto starters
I believe this is true.In the early years, the different transmissions had a different starter because the mounting angle on the automatic bell housing was different than the manual transmissions. The solenoid on one of the starters was in the was in the wrong place for one of the applications. In the mid-70s Nissan changed and started using the automatic starters on all cars. IIRC, the early auto starters will fit the manual transmission, but not the other way 'round.

Finding Z-Cars by VIN number possible?
I don't think that's likely anymore. An officer doing a search like this for non-law enforcement reasons would be risking his job. Privacy concerns are rampant these days. Here in Oregon, years ago you could walk into a DMV office with a plate number, pay a small fee (couple of bucks) and get a complete printout of all the records of the car and its registered owner(s). Imagine trying that today!

l28 + zx 5spd into 70 240z
There is no standard lever that will work for a late transmission (either 4 or 5 speed) in an unmodified '70-71 body shell. In the later transmissions the shift lever is about 1.5" farther forward (from memory, correct me if I'm wrong) than the early transmissions. You either need to enlarge the opening in the tunnel forward by 2" or so, or modify a later shift lever to fit the smaller opening. Here is an early shifter: Here is a (broken) modified late lever for early tunnel opening:

l28 + zx 5spd into 70 240z
Wrong. The shifters from the early 4 speeds are totally different design from the late transmissions. Not interchangeable. If you don't want to cut the tunnel, some people have cut/welded the 5 speed lever to work. The welding needs to be done well, I've heard of them breaking later.

Damn, Terje! They must have loaded it on the slowest ship in the fleet! I really was thinking that you should have received it by now.

Finding Z-Cars by VIN number possible?
Welcome to CZCC.com, Wick! Any of us who have (or had) a copy of your book are familiar with that car - in print. Tracking it down might be tough, but it's possible that some of the members here may have a lead or two. Best of luck!

Please help identify these brackets
After further review of my notes and pictures, you are right. The original RF tow hook (which is the only one intended for towing, and the only one supposed to be left on the car after PDI) is the same two-hole unit shown (located on the wrong side of the car) in your rotisserie picture. I know I've seen that two-plane mounted version somewhere before, but can't place it right now.

Please help identify these brackets
I agree. The car only uses one of them, it attaches to the right side frame rail in front of the sway bar mount.

[2012] What did you do to/with your S30 today?
Funny, as I've spent the past few weeks slowly selling off all my extra Z parts.

New engine
I've found that a lot of the Porsche crowd favors Brad Penn oil, even over the VR-1 (which is a close second choice).

[2012] What did you do to/with your S130 (ZX) today?
Rather than let these threads go on forever as they do in some other forums, I thought I'd start new ones for separate generations for the New Year. Use these threads for short, Twitter-like posts, things that may not be worth their own thread. This one is for the S130s. Enjoy, and let's keep each other involved!
