  1. Need someone to look at a m/c in Clarksville TN for me, pics would be great, any help? Mike
  2. How about this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-510-240Z-BLUEBIRD-FAIRLADY-280Z-1600-SS-keychain_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ50431QQihZ022QQitemZ350060076448QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Ok got the black pearl home, in storage since '87. every once in a while when it was windy and warm it got pulled out and washed. When he brought it back in he used a wax from a spray bottle on it. The paint is perfect but it has a haze over the whole car. I used rubbing compound o a test spot and waxed it 3 times. It looks loads better but the haze is still a factor. Thoughts on what to use to remove it WITHOUT damaging the BP stripes? Maybe a good detergent suggestion? If not it will be rubbing compound over the whole car. Mike
  4. Sometimes the best action is no action, I'll just wait till I can pull the tank and take it to someone who really enjoys that kind of stuff. Thanks for the replies, Mike
  5. Going to trailer my new (to me) Black Pearl home on Saturday, dormant since '87. When it was stored the tank was topped off and of course it's all evaporated now. Thinking of throwing either a gallon of denatured alcohol or a gallon of paint thinner in the tank with 2 or 3 gallons of gas for the bouncy trailer ride home to help get the "goo" broken up. Thoughts on which one to pick? Mike

Did you pull the connector loose on the link to check for continuity? If you just stick a meter lead up into the connector and other lead to starter you will show "good" through the body.
  7. Not even sure what these are but bet I can find them. Just a good inspection and cleaning? Mike
  8. As far as the motor, 1 shot of PB Blaster per cylinder followed by tablespoon of ATF. Will pull the valve cover and Marvel Mystry Oil the valve train then some nice new Castrol poured on it. Only thing I did with the motor before purchase was put a socket on the crank and move it about 2 degrees just to make sure it wasn't locked in place. When I pull the plugs the old ones will be used to introduce never-seize to the threads. Every nut, bolt, screw and washer I touch on an old car gets never-seize, I love that stuff. A battery is way down the road. Car is so clean I'll pull and build the motor if I have to. Will also replace all hydraulic rubber as in brakes and clutch, and change all fluids. All work above and all FI lines and filters will be new BEFORE battery and gas introduced as well as blowing carb cleaner through the hard lines and a good tank inspection/cleaning. Just trying to get ready and have whatever "always screws up" as far as FI stuff. Keep those thoughts coming, this is my 3rd Pearl to own and it has an interesting story I'll relay later on. Mike
  9. Ok it's time for my "new" Black Pearl to come to life, it's been stored in a heated/cooled garage since 1987. It's a low miles, one owner, always serviced till it was stored, clean machine. If it was a "carb" car I'd have a better idea where to start but it has that voodoo fuel injection. I'm going to replace all the rubber parts I can to start with, including fuel and vacuum lines. What's almost surely gone bad in the FI system? What FI pieces should I go ahead and plan to purchase and replace? What might be marginal in FI that I need to take a look at? Can you tell I'm not well versed in FI and have dodged it for my 52 years on the planet? It's time to learn. Thoughts/suggestions appreciated, don't be shy. Mike
  10. Finally got to the car with a meter. Dead short from hot lead on alternator to ground. New alt and fuse link, good to go.
  11. Got him to pull all fuses, idea was to replace 1 at a time till problem comes back. All fuses pulled, car not running, wire still getting hot. Got him to pull W/R off the alternator, problem goes away. Dead short in alternator or voltage regulator? He was driving on interstate when heard a "pop" and lost the fusible link. He had been push started 15 minutes earlier after leaving lights on and killing battery. Too much on alt? It will either get in-line fuse or fusible link(quick as I can get one) NO wire as replacement.
  12. 72, link from harness to starter burnt up, no link to replce, tried jumper wire for diagnosis, it gets HOT fast! Where to look? Son stranded, me old and tired and had a couple Heinekins so no driving tonight.
  13. This is the same question I had,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Mike
  14. Well the flu took a week from me and I usually don't let stuff keep me from working but this was killer!! Back to the car today with a good meter, suspect he was around tach so thanks for heads up. May have already been a problem up under the dash since no instrument lights. If he can't get it going any permanent damage running a hot wire to the coil long enough (ten minutes) to drive it home? Thanks for the replies, Mike
  15. My son's 73 240 has not had instrument lights in a while, he's too busy running the wheels off it to look, till last night, across town in a dark parking lot. That's the same day my 103 to 104 fever of 3 days broke on this lovely flu I've had a week. Really didn't want to go look and don't want him (or me) to waste money on a wrecker and I'm still sick, but better. Anyway,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, No drawing, no print and no energy. He layed on drivers floor, probably "giggling" wires under the dash till it won't start, STILL turns over but no voltage to the coil per someone with a meter. What's pulled loose? What color? Ideas? Thoughts? Thanks in advance, Mike

Do a Google search on Zs and post (copy yours above) on every site that will let you. You will be doing a Public Service and as long as it is all truthful and documented he hasn't a leg to stand on as far as libel/slander. Might wait till you get your car though, would be a shame if someone "stole" or vandalized it while in his lot. Turn on the charm and call the folks at the TV Station and relay your story and be sure to tell them about your documentation. Mike

I am working with Mr Typhoon to become the local distributor for this awesome pice of upgrade equipment. The single biggest reason is because of the description on Ebay, "and it's not gaudy" like those turbos and other things people add. With the addition of this product to my line of performance enhancements people will be able to order enough upgrades that they can put on in 1 afternoon to increase HP 10 fold and cut their ETs in half all without having to open up the motor. (in some cases not even the hood). Surely there are enough rubes in the world to make me a wealthy man. Contact me if you have money burning a hole in your pocket(and another in your head) and I will send you a 12oz bottle of my Super Duper Top Secret HP making elixor for only $79.99 plus $20.00 shipping that will give you a minimum 30% HP increase, if you can prove it doesn't work IE Dyno Test, I will refund ALL shipping cost. Enough in 1 bottle to do 12 tanks of gas. (I will have to ship it in a Budweiser bottle as my labels are still being printed.) PS I need more info on those suspension upgrades as my internally bone stock , FI 280Z with all my upgrades is now producing in excess of 4000 HP I need a little help with the cornering. PSS If anyone would like to be on my mailing list please send $36 for a one year subscription to my PO Box, if I EVER (unlikely) run across anything on the Internet that looks like I think you might want/deserve to see I will drop you an Email and tell you where to look. No refunds. Thanks Mike

Welcome and good luck on the search, Mike
  20. The "car" is not offensive (well maybe the flares) it's the ebay description, "All Original" it is NOT all original, IE flares, re-paint, stripes, etc, looks like a decent car just hate to see someone who does not know any better buy a Z thinking it is something that it's not. If you like the car and don't care about what's original or not it looks like a pretty good bet. My guess is $4175 high bid, but what do I know.
  21. It was in the paper(go figure) "72 Datsun Station Wagon low miles". The price was "right" to say the least.
  22. This is the "other car" I bought, if I can weather the storm will keep the BP and this car. 510 will go into the shop as it's really hard to believe how clean it is. Already had someone offer to double my money on the 510 but it is in fact a "better" car than the BP, not that the BP is a bad car this one is just so clean and untouched. So if something HAS to go it will be the BP, hopefully I can keep both.
  23. 1972 510 Wagon, AT A/C 56k miles, 94 year old granny(not mine) bought it new, have owned tons of old cars in my 50 years and this is the cleanest ever. NO rust, all original, except tires and the like. Runs like a new one. Is there a 510 site as good as this Z site out there? Mike
  24. Anyone close to Newport News VA who could check out a Z for me? Main concern is rust, let me know please. Thanks, Mike
  25. This is a "Help Me" cause I can't drive the car and my truck is on it's last leg. Need right hand tail light 3 wire socket for brake and brake light, it's a 78 but I think any Z will work(someone know off the top of their head?) "My" parts car at the junk yard has been crushed. Anyone have a parts car laying around that can send this to me? I was going to find the problem with the light and the socket acted like it had a small bomb in it when I twisted the bulb out. PM if you will, will PayPal you for socket and Express Mail. Thanks in advance.
