  1. All original, except the paint, wheels and who knows what else. Is it me or do you just want to scream or thump someone's head when you see this? WHAT is "All Original" about a repainted Z with the wrong wheels? In addition it has a direct quote from ZHOME (Mr. Beck?) imbedded in the ad with no credit to its author or source. Feel like bombarding them with emails and ask what it means when ad ad says "All Original" and the description says originally "mustard green". OK through venting now, will crawl back into my dream world where people understand what "original' actually means. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-240Z-all-original-75k-miles-collector-NO-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ4629193724QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  2. Glad to hear it, my Grampa would have loved it. He and his brother were the first 2 "Authorized" Lincoln/Mercury(Factory Trained) mechanics in the State of Texas and when he was 94 and mostly blind could still put his ear to a motor and tell you what was going on. Only Saint I have ever known, he was a good man with a hearty sense of humor and a natural teacher. What little I know I owe to him, miss him still. Go out and drive that car!!!!! Live it up, you only get one go around in this life. Mike
  3. The good news is=if it was running ok before you "fixed it" it will be ok again, bad news=you are going to have to go back over everything you touched and verify it's the way it belongs. Plug wires and injector wiring to start, you NEED a Factory Shop Manual. Don't feel bad, I am 50 and have been working with car/motorcycle "stuff" since I was 13, the big question I get asked by son's and their friends (in amazement most of the time) is "How did you know that, or How did you know that would happen" , because I learned lot's of hard lessons, over the years I have "fixed" a lot of things that worked ok after I fixed em again. Live and learn, 20 years ago I built a 302 Chevy motor, yes 302, and left the dist drive out, that was one of the most painful lessons. All ready to stab the dist. and oops it won't grab anything. Found that cute little 4" shaft in my 7 at the time, son's room later(not on the bench), pulled the motor back out, pulled the oil pan and pump then put it all back again, and the list goes on,,,,,,,,, Anyway I digress, just check all your wiring first, plugs wires, injector wiring and go from there.
  4. If you use tape skip the first thread of the fitting, 2 wraps is plenty. Or hit the hardware store and buy some "pipe dope", they sell it impregnated with teflon, it comes in a container with a brush attached to the lid. Designed and fromulated for use on pipe threads to prevent leaks and aid in later removal.
  5. Think I will replace all the under hood, heat and a/c vacuum line(hose/tubing) on the 78, anyone know what size in mm is needed? Thanks, Mike
  6. Not a turbo but I know someone who fought a problem similar to this and previous owner had installed a distributor that would not work with his car. Also I think hyrbridz (org I think) has a lot of turbo guys who might be of help.
  7. All vacuum hoses for cracks, leaks? All intake hoses, fittings, connections for leaks? Fuel pressure? Fuel return valve? If you don't own the Factory Service Manual buy one. Kinda pricey sometimes but a wealth of info and well worth it. It will walk you thru what to check and how to check it. Some of the best money you can spend. Where are you located? You might find a fellow turbo on here he is close to help you out depending on where you live. Sorry I can't be of more help. Mike

If not clear enough I will take a pic of the one on my car, be a couple of days, THANKS for the replies, are those MSA mirrors same as Nissan? The car has had 1 repaint, came with the stripes(lost in paint job) sunroof, rear louvers, BP wheels(upgraded???? to cross, I have 3 BP wheels still looking for that 4th one) and only ONE of the mirrors, dealer must have dropped one and broke it or just didn't feel like putting it on, and correct paint code. Would like to have both mirrors and the BP wheels "to feel cool". Mike

Anyone have part numbers or know what "other" cars these mirrors came on? I need a right side mirror, complete, for a 78 Black Pearl. SAP "Racing Mirrors"

There is no way to even guess a price without more info, unless of course it has a title and $200 will buy it AND it's close to where you live. Title? Rust? (How much and where?) Wheels? How badly do you want it? Original motor and running gear? Color?(in and out) Mainly it's the rust, the rust, how bad does it appear to be, you can't see all of it but if you CAN see a bunch then there is probably a lot more. That will decide is it's a fix up and drive, restore or a parts car. How's that for a no answer answer? Need more info, at least my little mind does.

You are SO much more patient and calm than I could ever be, get some kahunas man. That may be part of the reason for the treatment, it's time to make a stand. Find out the real reason for the delay and as you and your car are leaving promise to post his name/place of business and the way you were treated every place you can find on the Internet. As long as all the dates and broken promises are the truth he can't even defend himself much less have a leg to stand on in a libel suit. Give him that one last chance with a no BS date. That's my 2 cents.

I think you will find all types of info, news, pointers, opinions, some cheesey jokes, the exchange of sassy banter and more, feel sure you will be glad you signed up. NO sunroof, I have a 78 Black Pearl and it came with a sunroof, only car I ever owned with one, I am 50 and have owned a few along the path. Just a place for water to leak in, road noise and its so hard to drive looking up. I would never (to each his own) cut a hole in the roof of an otherwise great car. Bet if you ask nice someone here would probably donate a decent headliner out of a parts car to keep your roof intact. Mike
  14. I sent you an email, when you get a chance give it a read, Thanks, Mike
  15. It's in Tulsa and it's on evilbay, so please folks, no bidding. You got a trailer so I don't have to rent one? Mike
  16. OK this is not a "Wanted to Buy" ad this is a fishing expedition. My Son, the "Wonder Boy" who has his Honda Prelude sitting out back with a terriffic knock in the motor. He can't work with no transport, well he could but he may as well get better than fast food money, and I may kill him if I can't get him out of my hair. There was a warning issued with the Prelude purchase, tear it up and it's yours to fix, buy something I have an interest in and I will help work on it. There is a Z car that is close enough to go get, at a reasonable price, and it seems to be close to running. It needs carbs, there are none included but the manifolds are there. Don't really want to buy the car for him to use and sure don't want to spring for Z Therapy stuff or buy a set that has benn sitting 10 years so here is where I am at. If anyone has a set of carbs, complete and ready to run please respond either thru this thread or PM and let me know what you need for them. If I know there are a set of carbs handy (all I need is money) I will try and work a deal on this carbless car and get "the boy" back on track. He has been carless better than 2 months and I think he has learned something from this. Thanks in Advance, Mike
  17. The top is round and open all the way around, it does not need to "suck" air, the issue is the end that is built into the shaft that goes down in the tranny, it has a "cutaway" section on it. Come up 3/16ths" or so and imagine about half the shaft removed up to that height, in a nice pretty arc. Looking in the tranny I can't see any real advantage to one direction or the other but I bet those engineers put that cutaway there and an arrow to insure a certain direction was used at installation on purpose. If you pulled your 5sp last night and no one has been there in awhile it may be correct, still leaning to "arrow front". Good thing I have time to get hung up on something that is probably a moot point, but haveto believe they cut the bottom and put an arrow on it for a reason. Which way, Which way???? Mike Another Question: If our knees bent backwards could we still ride a bicycle?
  18. Anyone have a tranny setting around that they can look at the vent (pressure relief) for me? Think I'll point it toward the front of the car unless I hear otherwise, Thanks, Mike
  19. The vent has an arrow embossed on the top of it, which direction should the arrow be facing? Thanks, Mike

Just too far and snakey for me, would have gone in $$ but can't go get it right now and owner said city was after him to move it. Oh well it's not the first good one that distance has put a damper on, win some, lose some. Count this as lost, Mike

Sounds like you could be more a consultant than anything else and help keep this a safe job. Spring compressor and air tools handy? If so sounds like a walk in the park, a free lunch, probably gas money and maybe access to a shop sometime when you need it most. Mike in Arkansas

    Can't see bumpers real well

If we can get Tomohawk interested, he sounds the closest, we can decide on an upper limit on the bid. There is someone in KY who has emailed me who wants to save the car, really want the wheels but would rather see the car saved. I just bought a 78 parts car, from pictures, will get it this weekend, if the bumpers are good we'll see if we can cut a deal. Mike

\I have a Pearl with the wrong wheels and need a hood, I have found someone close who can throw thoses parts in a pickup for me. How about it Cleveland? You rent the trailer and Canada and I buy the car, I get the wheels and hood and Canada gets what he wants and you part it out on evilbay? Should be LOTS of good stuff left, the lights and turn signal switch should pay for a trailer and gas, Just a thought, Mike
