  1. Going to look at a bone stock (supposedly) 72 that's been idled but garaged for 5+ years, would like to take the correct socket to try and give the crank a spin, what size socket fits? Thanks, Mike

Did that PN get you the blue color background?

You will never be able to fully(?) enjoy wringing out the motor if in the back of your mind you have "matching numbers" on the brain. Pull the motor and build yourself a good balanced 2.8 with a little cam and some good carbs. Years ago I ground up restored a 69 RS Z/28, lots of time and money, never got all the fun out of as I was worried I might sling a rod out of the 302. In my mind it was a mistake to keep the original motor in a driver, it won't happen again. My 2 cents, Mike.

If you can get the guy awake from his coma or whatever it is that makes it so strange and IF he wants to sell off HIS car collection I may buy the Jeeps. This might help turn him into a seller if you can offer to buy the whole shooting match, feel sure you can get a bite on the vette, if you work this right maybe you can get a Camaro and a Z free, for your trouble. 5. 78 Z, stock, may have later model tranny installed. It jumps out of 1st and 5th gear, does this sound like an easy fix? ie something is just loose like a nut on the end of a shaft? Thoughts?

Note: Chit-Chat Forums / Open General Discussions, looks like a fit to me, if it had been posted in a technical or other "serious" forum I could understand your stinging comments, but it wasn't. That forum exists for such trivial matters so as not to bother you oh too serious types. Why did you read it at all if it was so offensive to you? Apparently you need to stick to the "serious stuff" and and let all those who wish to join in such trivial pursuits to do just that. It was posted in the right area, seems you were in the wrong area, seems you have an exaggerated sense of self worth and wish to dictate to others what is "proper" to post and reply to. Why not lighten up? When you have time check out the different forums that are available, might come as a surprise to you. In addition you can check out which forums comments are posted in simply by reading, if it's a waste of your valuable time and an insult to your intellect, don't read it. PS This is just mild flaming and it's fun to exchange sassy banter on occasion, no hard feelings. Mike

Sounds to me like you are easily amazed and just as eager to insult people. Perhaps you and Mr 71 Z are good buds huh? You could have made your point about property values and your thoughts without the name calling. As it is you are just another tough guy on the keyboard with a smart mouth. That's OK though as I accept your apology which is what you would be doing if you had grouped me into your insult in person. Mike

In 1986 I bought a house in a snooty neighborhood in Round rock TX, Austin suburb, I had a 1971 Toyota Corona with 40k miles that was basically a new car as a "spare car" it was parked in the street with expired tags, someone complained, I moved it into the drivway and made myself a 5 gallon bucket of mud pies and coated the car completely glass and all, made for quite a site, and left it that way for a week, washed it and moved it back to the street, oddly there was never another complaint lodged, Mike
  9. The term for this is "peening", might be a crappy thing in this instance, but if you're broke you're borke, this may have been done 20 plus years ago by someone who just wanted to make it stay together long enough to get to work and back, something about "till you have walked in another man's shoes".
  10. Too rusty for me, floors are gone, no pics, quarters are good, vin 9338( I think) that's within a couple, 71 motor, mostly complete roller, best for parts but someone wanting a 70 cheap this might be it.
  11. hook up the trailer and come get the rusty 70 Z I have here in Little Rock, straight hood, door latches good, straight radiator with fan and shroud, AT car with e31 head, all guages, speedo, title, a/c, good cosole, tach etc etc $500, maybe you 2 Dallas residents can split the cost and divvy it up, Mike rmearkie@earthlink.net

I have found car 136, "Not for sale" been sitting years I will keep after him, someday it will be mine hopefully as he is never going to touch it. Car is gold, and has the best color change I have ever seen if in fact that's the case, under the seats it's BRG and that's the only place I can find green. Is this a good color change or greenish primer?
  13. I did not get to have a good look under the hood, dark and no flashlight, there is a tag there but all I could make out was 1 set of stamped numbers that matched the VIN, could have been more but it looked like the rest of the tag was printed, not stamped, could be wrong. Inside old closed down truck repair business, it's a 78 and the paint code is right and the price is very right. Jumped it and it cranked right up after 4 or 5 months, old gas smelled nasty. 5 speed without the "Appearance Group". The price is so good I only want to make 1 more trip to verify motor and make a cash offer, no need to spook the guy. Should motor number be on tag? Mike
  14. Found a pretty nice Black Pearl Edition, I am familiar with 70 and 71 Zs and they have the motor number on the fender tag, how can I verify motor is correct(original) for this 78? Hurry!! The money is burning a hole in my pocket and the price is right. Thanks, Mike
  15. Anyone who could pick up a motor/build a small crate and deliver to shipper for me? The red one that has been for sale for awhile and is now on ebay, he is willing to sell turbo motor package seperately. I would try and by if someone could get it headed in my direction. Free or fee let me know. Mike
  16. I am enrolled now, would have made Harrison but Family reunion was planned long before and had to go. Next meeting, if I get a notice I will attend, Mike

Randy, Thanks, I am fixed up now, Mike
  18. Bill why don't you come over Sat. morning and help me put mine back? You can see my 2 70 models and hear about #156 that I found today, Mike
  19. SM needles, all edges cut down to radius including front lip on floating piston in carb throat, throttle bars(butterfly holders)cut down to maximize flow, running Motosport Auto Jet Hot Coated 6 into 2 headers(disappointed in the amount of rust on these in such a short amount of runtime, boo hiss), carbs have individual K & N filters but I want to go back to stock set up(trade someone?) Mike
  20. No access(or money)for dyno, 280zx turbo block, bottom end balanced and blueprinted, ported and polished E31, .475/280 cam big springs and valves, jetted etc SUs, MSD 6AL, looking to put in the Rev limiter chip, anyone with similar motor have a suggestion on RPM limit? It's in my '70 Z with a 3.90 R200 Don't need to completey max it out. Thoughts, suggestions? Mike (PS runs like a scalded dog)

Do you think if the "Hamptons" had a similar disaster, the response time for aid would have still been a week? Well suuuure it would have been, lot's of mistakes along the way on this one, but don't worry "The buck never stops here" baby bush is sure to point the finger and roll some heads. Same old story, to me at least, no matter what happens the guy at the top has ultimate responsibilty, but not "Mr resolve".

OK, different tact, for those ofr you who have converted later model Zs to a fuse holder and done away with the fusible links, what size fuses are you using on the different circuits?
  23. MikeZcar posted a post in a topic in Open Chit Chat
It's there and more is coming. You can get a short wave radio pretty cheap and listen in world wide, there are relief efforts most everywhere for this disaster. Think about it, when the US helps someone it's on our news outlets, unless you are watching, German, French, Canadian etc etc TV odds are you are not going to see the collection center at the local bank in Britian. Besides we used to be the richest country in the world and the country most able to afford to offer help after a disaster that is untill those tax cuts for the wealthiest 2%, the 200 BILLION dollar WMD war(wonder how much that would help the hurricane victims), half a trillion dollar deficet, oops I digress, my thought and prayers to all those jammed up by Katrina, Mike.

Thanks, but I do not want to replace the link with a link, I want to put a fuse in the line, anyone know amp rating for factory 1970 link/links?
  25. MikeZcar posted a post in a topic in Electrical
Previous owner has done away with links on 70 model, I am going to install "in line fuse holder", are there just 2 links? (ie starter and alternator?) What amp rating fuse should I use on each? Thanks, Mike :paranoid:
