I'm finally getting a "real" motor for the FP car so the stock Datsun oil/temp gauge is going to have to go. It has served me well for 7 years now, it's about time for some accuracy. So, I've got an Autometer mechanical gauge panel to install and I'm looking for pics and or recommendations from your installations to give me some ideas. My current setup is about as basic as can be so I'll have to build something to mount them on. No dash bar on the rollcage but I can probably add one if that's the easiest way. I do like to keep things simple as you can tell from the pics. Wiring and plumbing I understand, only thing left is the mounting. I've got passable fabrication skills and tools (check my fuel cell install) and can probably get (bribe?) my old buddy tholt to help out if it's something I can't handle. :-) Car here: http://www.typeischeap.com/ Current interior shots here: http://www.typeischeap.com/pics/DASH1.JPG http://www.typeischeap.com/pics/DASH2.JPG If you had a clean slate, what would you do? -Rick
  2. Very cool! Wow, finally a copy of SportsCar that may not go automatically into my trash after 10 minutes of browsing. Sweet! -Rick
  3. Best Nationals ever! And, once again, great driving John and Tom. Let's do it again next year! -Rick
  4. I fully agree with this one and while everyone was complaining in Topeka this year I was more than happy to realize that I could go another year without having to build a real motor. I was in a borrowed car this year in A Stock but I'm looking forward to showing up next year in FP again. Hopefully, we can fill all of the FP trophy spots with old Z cars! Back to the original cost question, I'm right around $10k with my build-up over the last 5 years. I've got most of everything on Tom's list except the race motor and pricey shocks and the car has shown to be competitive with his car with the right co-driver (someone faster than me). Again, much cheaper and arguably more fun than a new flavor of the month car! Details: http://www.typeischeap.com -Rick

Yes, it's been a tough year for me too. Dragging the car to two National-level events this year only to break the car at both of them (Houston Tour - front diff mount, and Mineral Wells ProSolo - three u-joints). It's been an honor padding Mr. Holt's class so that he can get his free tires. My glory will have to be reserved for our little local events where there is absolutely no tire contingency. Tom's luck has to run out one of these days... Oh yeah, on the subject of autocross fuel cell installs, you can see mine here: www.typeischeap.com (click on Specs->Fuel Cell). Rick Martinez

I've gained a lot of valuable info on tuning my Webers from this site, now I need parts! Before I go out and spend a bunch of money on new jets (which I'm not opposed to doing) I was wondering if any of the ex-Weber gurus out there have any jets/chokes/etc sitting around collecting dust. I'd be willing to take them off of your hands for a fair price. Thanks! Just trying to keep up with that tholt29 fella! Heheh. -Rick http://www.io.com/~rickm/fp280z http://www.io.com/~rickm/fp280z/new
