What is the best part of owning a classic Z?
Knowing that is all mine and I don't have to let anyone else drive it. Laughing in the face of all those strangers that "ask how much you want for that old car"?when I park it. There isn't that much money. Love my 72

4x4 Trashed Z
Could be worse. Some guy in Memphis turned his Z into a rolling Bar-B-que cooker. It has smoked windows.

This car is shown on page 458, of the September 2006 Hemmings Motor News. The asking price looks like $20,000 OBO. Sure wish I had $20,000 spare change.

ever put auto trans fluid in your motor oil????
When I went through Mechanic night classes in the late 1960 and 1970s, several of the instructors suggested putting a very small amount ( a couple of table spoons) of transmission fluid in the gas tank. It is supposed to clean off the valves by loosening up built up carbon. Don't over do it though. It might not be a good idea to put in a car with fuel injection. It could clog the injectors.I have tried it in my 72 Z , but can't really say if it helped or not. It hasn't stopped my car from passing smog inspection. The best way of cleaning valves is using a good grade oil and gas with clean filters and running at sustained 60 plus speeds for about an hour.

WHich would you rather have(and post why)?
My 72 Z has a 4 speed from the factory. My truck has a 5 speed and the gas mileage is higher on the truck. I just got back from a trip to Chattanooga ,Tennessee and that 5 speed really helped going up and down Lookout mountain. I would put a 5 speed in the Z; if I could afford it.

a little update of my project. but what now?
I hope you welded some door braces in before you removed the doors and replaced the quarter panels. If not; sitting on that body dolly for any length of time may have distorted the body.

Gasoline Prices, and your Z
Gas here in Memphis is $ 2.87 and rising. Luckily my little darling is on Jack stands getting her 135,000 mile check up. She won't be taking any trips to the gas pumps any time soon. Now my 58 Chevy Biscayne.......Thats a gas hog.
