  1. On my 7/70 the way you are describing sounds basically like how I have done it in the past. When I unhooked the heater cables I only pulled the heater control panel out enough to allow installation of the radio so that the routing of the cables was not disturbed to much. Then I hooked up the wiring and installed the rear screws on the radio loosely into the chassis brackets. After that I placed the metal backing plate onto the radio and repositioned the heater control panel over the front of the radio, then installed the radio plastic face plate, installed the four heater control panel screws and put the nuts and knobs onto the radio and tightened the back radio to chassis screws. Then finally re-hooked up the heater control cables. It was many years ago so hopefully I didn't miss any thing.

Just to add to what @dhp123166 has summarized here are screen captures from the 1979 Nissan parts micro fiche. I did notice that the 62591-N4500 part number is shown applying to both the 2 seater and 2+2 from 09/74 to 07/76

Are you looking for an assembly with the lever and choke knob? I have an almost complete set, part number 18410-E8803 that I mistakenly purchased in '05 for my 7/70. I used the cables for short time but later took them out and repaired the old cables as the '72 cables are a little shorter than the '70 cables and it made pulling the lever difficult. I had to rob the firewall grommet and the white plastic tombstone washer from this set to use on my car so they are not included. On the plus side the lever and knob parts and end bellows have never been used. here are a couple of pictures:

Too good to be true, he's probably just fishing. I used Google to reverse search that image and found the same one used in an ad from early last year on this site: http://classicvehicleslist.com/datsun/186116-1972-datsun-240z-s-matching-complete-texas-project-sports-car-nissandatsun.html

If you are talking about @Wick Humble's book pages 74 thru 76 have quite a bit of detail on this subject he calls it "instrument panel removal" instead of dash removal. Also here is a link to some good info in our knowledge base: HTH Mike
  6. I would say dealer installled based on the picture of your interior above in post 10.
  7. As far as I know none of the 240z's exported to North America came with factory A/C. What makes you think yours is?
  8. Here's a link called L-Series Engine Porn: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipOOstuMLWQ-T-nfkSMbw1tvyAboqyIZEECGlrSo1O7NPbcNEB-Of7X1-LCM-BVavA?key=VXlBaFpISGZBcTl1T1lTcVVuUEVwbWRwMkJPekdn Shows them installed both ways, but more examples seem to be tight side in the engine bay. The logic provided by @jfa.series1 does make sense but I like the look of the other way better and I think of the tight side as being a sealing lip to keep dirt, debris & fumes out of the cabin with the lip in that direction.
  9. Mine are like this. As far as I know these are original and have never been removed. Below is the best pic I could find from the 1971 FSM supplement, it's hard to see but to me it looks like the tight fitting end of the grommet is facing out. .
  10. Look at what's on ebay now. Happy Bidding!
  11. Maybe they are a provision for installing the A/C controls used on JDM cars that were equipped the A/C option. Thanks to @hr369 for adding the JDM parts book to our downloads section.
  12. Based only on the pictures and write up in the ad as of today I would say that the asking price of $3000 is definitely to high, even if the car was a '70 around the 2500 s/n mark. Without more pictures one must assume that much more rust is lurking underneath. In general terms for series one cars, up to approx. SN 21000, value is more determined by condition and other factors until you get to very low numbers in the below 100 range or with a '69 production date. Of course this is my opinion. My car is a 6xxx car with a 7'70 production date and was registered as a 1970 but I could only wish that it would be worth significantly more that a later series one car in same condition, in todays market that is not really the case, unless you get lucky and find the right buyer. That being said the value of series one cars with production dates before 9'70 would have a small bump in value due to some one their unique features, like the 2400 valve cover. In my opinion for cars with 1970 production dates value is mainly set, in todays market, by condition, matching engine, and having all the correct parts that would have been on the car when it was delivered. Documentation like original dealer invoice, owners manual and warranty book etc. are definite plus as well. All of this has been discussed many times on this forum, and in a lot more detail by people much more knowledgeable than me, but I think it is still worth mentioning again. HTH Mike
  13. Ad says its a '71 so probably a S/N of 8xxx or higher.

Couldn't see this clearly from your pic but your 9'71 dash should look like the lower image to be correct. Source: http://www.zhome.com/

The console changed 8'71, yours looks correct. The dash change is a little trickier to confirm. What number does your speedo start at? Series one starts at 20mph. http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/Z-1969-1978/body-240z/floor-console-finisher-ash-tray http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/Z-1969-1978/body-240z/dash-panel-side-instrument
  16. Probably something like, "I am currently out of the country settling the affairs of my Nigerian great uncle and the car is in storage. Please pay the $5,000 owing to get access and I will reimburse you. Please forward all of your banking and credit card information, including passwords. Don't worry I am very trustworthy."
  17. Definitely a scam, I just google searched the one only picture from the CL ad, found four pages of hits using that small image.

No problem, send me your address and I will drop it in the mail. This is a very small step towards curing my Z hoarding problem. If you come across one I am looking for is a series 1 unlit defroster switch, working or not, to replace or repair my old switch. I lost the small spring that goes on the pin that actuates the switch, and that pin is broken. Here is a picture, before I lost the spring.

I recently found one of those handle parts in the glove compartment of the dash I pulled from a 12'70 parts car. It's yours if you want it. Mike

@siteunseen I have corrected one of the meme's you posted... there was something missing. Cheers, Mike
  21. Here is a source for fuel compatible hose that has an original black cloth wrapped look that comes in 6mm and 8mm sizes, as well as others. They have also have JIS fasteners that look interesting as well. http://www.newcoproducts.com/new/cohline/hoses.html
  22. Interesting, my car had the non-braided type for all of the fuel supply & return hoses. Three of the hoses have been replaced but I still have the old ones, don't ask me why, I just have trouble tossing old parts. The ones I had to replace (about 12 years ago) were extremely hard and some cracking was evident on the ends. The rest are now getting quite hard so I probably won't get many more years out of them.
  23. Jerry, are the fuel hoses you have ordered wrapped with braided cloth? Or are they more like this picture (fuel rail to front carb)? Some of the fuel hoses on my series 1 car look like the one in this pictured here , when you look close they have a cloth wrapped (not braided) texture that seams to be rubberized as well. They don't have the glossy smooth finish like modern hoses.
  24. If you go to the link I posted above it goes to a post that has the complete US dealer list (for 1972?). The full list is spread over posts 8 & 9. I have no idea about finding old vin records but good luck on your search.
  25. Pic 8 (last) looks like the foam pads that go under the cowl that is between the hood and the windshield.
