It looks almost like a starter relay out of an older jeep. I will try and barrow a camera and take pictures of that area. The shock tower in my 78 has nothing on it.

I don't believe it is a stock part. my 78 doesn't have it and I couldn't find anything about it in the repair manual.
  4. All this info and number crunching is fine and good but what will it do in the real world? Numbers on paper don't win races.
  5. Woops sorry The book gav240z is talking about is written by Frank Honsowetz. book number ISBN 0-89586-353-7. Both books have alot of info.
  6. I think the book gav240z is talking about is how to hotrod & race your datsun by Bob waar. It has a section on head work. The book number is ISBN 0-936834-41-2

Glad I live in a cool neighborhood. I had my 28 ford sedan setting outside. Just the tub on a dolly and people were stopping and checking it out. Complimenting and talking about there cars from the past. My 280z has been sitting on the side of the garage looking like hell and no complaints. The next time the cops come out be cool to them. They probably don't want to be there either. Just ask them how to make things right. They might be cool about it and offer some advice.

I wish those engines were cheap here in the states.

zwief280z You can drag race the z. I have done enough stop light to stop light racing to know the car will hold it's own. It is not it's original design intent but it is fun. it will also give you an excuse to learn how to tune the engine. have fun.

My uncle gave me an old beat up 62 chevy pick up. My dad burned it up and left it for dead along the highway. A little while later I was looking at a toyota truck. There was a 1978 280Z parked next to it. For shits and giggles my uncle and I took the Z for a test drive. I fell in love and bought it. That was in 1988 and I still have it.
  13. Makes sense, thanks

I understand zpression. When I was away at school my mom asked me to come home for the summer. I didn't want to but did. When I got back there my brother and parents did nothing but fight. I rolled my Datsun and spent the rest of the summer trying to get the car put back together. Fighting with the insurance people ( I put a curse on state farm) trying to make some money doing anything that paid. Finding parts, most coming from a wrecking yard run by the biggest a$$hole in the world. I finally made it back to school to find out my student aid was being reduced rent was going up etc etc. Then some arse t-boned me a lttle while later and ruined my new quarter panel. there was the break up with my girlfriend and some other stuff that went on. The entire time my z was begging for a rebuild. It has been a few years but I am finally getting to the rebuild. The only advice I can offer is be patient. Time and money will come around sooner or later.

It would be cheaper to buy a econo car than do an engine swap.
  17. There is another movie called the gumball rally. About the same as cannon ball run. I love the end when the ferrari and cobra(?) are going at it.

I wish I had some pics. I had all the body work done new paint.Motor, tranny rebuilt. I was very happy. Then I put the poor thing on the roof a few years later. So now the roof and rear quarter is red the left front fender is a nice rust color with a dent kind of motif it matches the door though. the rest of the car is a two tone blue. To make things even greater some fool t-boned me a few months after reskinning the rear quarter panel so the dent motif is complete. Looks good from the passsenger side though.

Glad to hear the Z was found. I've never had one stolen but mine was broken into twice .That was bad enough.

Hello all I have been lurking here for awhile and finally decided to join. I have a 78 280z that is in desperate need of a rebuild. Hopefully this winter I will have the time and money to get started.
