  1. Good point. I'll look around for another Z automatic then, thanks for all the help.
  2. What is the newest automatic transmission that I can bolt up?
  3. Mull, how's the carbon dash and center console going along?

So, I was out in the backyard having fun. Turns out fireworks are illegal in Redmond, so that nice police officer just took all my stuff (except for the roman candels I threw under the couch when he was on the way to my front door). Oh well.
  5. I've heard that all manual transmissions from '70 to '83 are all interchangable and bolt up directly to the L-series motor, is this the same with the automatic transmissions? I'm going to swap out the automatic for a manual next year when I do a motor swap, but for now I could really use a solid automatic. Thanks, Ian.

Welcome to the club expresso. Check for rust in the usual places, rear deck lid, battery track, spare tire well, bottoms of the fenders, floor pans. Just look around the car, in the engine bay, make sure everything looks good. Have the guy fire up the car too. The other members will have a lot more to say, good luck! - Ian.
  10. if you don't mind me asking, whom did you order from and how much did they cost?

The drivers side on my car was pretty rust free too, just a bunch of surface rust. I haven't finished the passenger side, but frankly, I'm scared.
  12. can't complain with a free z. i had one (was my parts car), but she deserved to be free, haha. this one looks pretty nice.

Hey everybody. I primered my car a few weeks ago, didn't get around to taking pictures, and the ones I have are only from the rear and part of the driver's side. The first picture is of my shaved antenna and rear quarter emblems, and the second picture is just the back. - Ian
  14. Even for the 1993 Protege?
  15. Sorry Alfadog, I don't think we have any of those. I'll look into those Shelby motors though.
  16. You can do the primer after the body work, exactly what I did.
  17. Well, here's the story. My mom has a 1993 Mazda Protege with 197,000 miles on it. She's thinking about buying a new car, which means I get the Mazda. I want to turn it into a front wheel drive sleeper, which means a motor swap. The only badass front wheel drive motor I know of is the Cadillac STS, but are there any Japenese motors (not Honda or Acura) that would be a good powerplant for a little project? - Ian.

Have you ever thought that if you had the money and the means of doing so, you would approach your project completely different? Or that, you'll get it done, but maybe sometime in the future you'll re-restore it so its done much better? I was just thinking today, that even though I just sprayed primer on my car last night, there's some things I would I could've fixed differently or completely replaced. Just wondering if lots of people have pondered this.
  21. To mask things off and primer it? What's the fun in having someone else do the work for you, then you're not restoring the car, someone else is.
  22. I'll post some up tomorrow.
  23. Thanks for all the help guys. I sprayed primer tonight, its finally one color!
  24. What's the best way to mask off a door, when you've masked one side from the inside, but if you mask the other side from the inside, you're stuck inside, haha. Any ideas? I need to know pretty quick guys.
