My car made it into a movie. recently released on DVD, "Milk". Its a little over 14 min into the movie. Its the scene where one of the guys is dancing. He passes by in front of the window. You can see my orange Z in the backround parked across the street. If you blink youll miss it (0.5 seconds of onscreen time).

All fittings are tight and no noticable cracks. No fuel on the tank just in the gas filler area. Mmmm, kinda stumped. Next step is to replace all of the gas lines since it is almost 37 years old. Thanks to all who wrote.

Thanks for your help. My car is a 72. The cap, rubber ring and flap are all new. Ill have to check the filler neck for cracks. Maybe i should just replace the entire setup since it is 37 years old.

Here's the deal, I have a fuel leak coming from the gas cap area. If the tank is more than 1/2 full and I make a sharp left turn, gas will leak out from the cap area and down the side of the car (YIKES). Not a good thing for the paint. Ive replaced the gas cap, gas flap and tighten all the screws. Not sure what the problem is. Anyone got have an idea about what's going on? Is there a NOS fuel filler neck replacement part?
  5. Hey Coastie, I know im late in the game but i have a 3.0 Rebello motor for my car. I didnt care about numbers matching, just wanted more power. With the 3.0, it got alot more power! Mostly in the torque area. If your in the SF area, hit me up and ill give you a ride in my car. Rebello is expensive but he does good work.

Hey JC, Im in the East Bay. There are a few Z owners in the area. The local club is "Z Owners of Northern California" or ZONC (zonc.org). Look'em up. Hit me up if you need some help with your ride. John

What is the difference between an R200 differential from a 280Z and a R200 differential from a 240SX? The one from the Z has a longer “nose” than the other. Could the guts of the diff be swapped and used with each other?

The producers of the up coming Harvey Milk movie used my Z for backround (70s orange). I hope it makes it into the final cut.

Did you bleed the brake system correctly? Are the front brake calipers on the correct side? I ONCE put the calipers on the wrong side. They are side specific. Make sure the bleeding nipple is on the top.

"Rebello quoted me 220bhp, which is actually the number that I have been looking for. The speed to weight ratio, a long with the 80' 5-speed and a LSD 3.9 or 4.11 is really my dream 240z." I have the exact same Rebello set up in my car that you are looking for (except for the L$D). Not the fastest Z ive ever been in but its what i was looking for. Enough grunt to put a good oldfashioned smiley face on me. Id say GO FOR IT!!!
  13. For sale: A beautiful 1972 Datsun 240Z. ALL ORIGINAL (except the radio and tires). ONE OWNER and only 89,000 miles. This orange Z has been in the bay area it entire life and always garaged. The motor purrs and the automatic transmission shifts smoothly. Feels like it just left the dealership. There are not many Z’s left and very few that are this original and unmodified. When you drive it, you’ll be impressed. If your interested, i can send some pics. Price: $8.000 John 510-517-0304 or mullare@comcast.net

I recently lent my Z out to a movie studio to use in an upcoming motion picture (Milk). They kept it for 1 week and used Teamsters to drive it around for the shoot. When I got it back, it had a few new scratches and refused to start. I had it towed back to the house at my expense. This was my experience at loaning out my classic car to someone I don’t know. Would I do it again? Hmm, ill have to think about it. Me and every classic car and Z owner I know are very picky about our rides. You’ll have to ask yourself this question, Would you loan your car out to a friends friend, someone you don’t know personally, to use for a week?
  15. Matching numbers are only for the most hardcore collectors. If your going to modify your Z in any way, there is no reason to keep matching numbers. I have a 3.1 stroker from Rebello in my slightly modified Z. No matching numbers. The engine is just what i want. So if your not going to keep your Z stock, go for the biggest, baddest motor you want.

Its amazing what a frontal lobotomy and small testicles will do to a guys self esteem.

Do you have the front calipers on the correct side? The bleeder valve should be at the upper side of the caliper. If the bleeder valve is on the bottom, air will not bleed out properly and cause an air bubble to form in the caliper.
  18. I had my engine done at Rebellos in Antioch. So far im pleased. Lots of horsepower from the 3.1 stroker. Just got to get rid of the exhaust fumes.
  19. Yes, there was the horsehair underpadding under the carpeting behind the seats. It was a loose piece similar shape to the carpet.
  20. Check out this guys web page. He does a good job of explaining tranny issues. http://www.geocities.com/jasonparuta/

  22. Thanks for all your replys. I have fixed the problem. After I rewired the distributor and synced the carbs, it was down on power. I pulled the spark plugs and found all of them in poor condition. I dont understand how the engine ran before with the plugs in that condition. I installed new plugs and now it runs perfectly.
  23. Thanks Arne, your right. I called Pertronix who stated i do not need the ballast. OK but how do i wire it? Add a third wire to the + terminal of the coil? Right now i have two wires to the + terminal and two (including the wires from the distributor) attached. HELP.
  24. Thats right, no power over 4000 rpms. Just installed Pertronix points and new "Flame thrower" coil. Starts just fine, runs well upto 4000 rpms. Then no more power. I think i might have wired the coil/ballast wrong. Got any ideas? Got a pic of the coil/ballast so i can compare my wiring to yours? What do i do with that?
  25. Im looking into a Rebello 2.7L motor for my Z. Id like to ride in your car to see and feel the difference. You got time to drive me around? Im coming from the East Bay.
