What makes you drive craZy?
If you want to know what it means to drive bumper by bumper at 100 - 130 mph, take the left lane on a german autobahn between 2 traffic jams (that immediately start as soon as one in the line steps on the brake because of a truck on the right lane that suddenly decided to pass another truck. Also dangerous are old Renault R4 , VW Beetles or Citroen 2 CV in front of you.) Happy hours Rolf

Headlight covers stock?
In the 70s I heared from a Datsun Germany salesman they were stock in Arabian countries. Funny because the material was quite soft and got easily scratches. I can't imagine they liked sandstorms. Rolf

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh
Where is the problem? There are not many nice Zs left, whereas .........Take your time, look for a nice girl that loves sports cars, travelling and good drivers and make it a win-win-situation. Both need "maintanance". Don't cut yourselft into pieces or you will never be happy.

Another Sunroof!!!
In Bavaria I saw a metallic blue 260Z 2+2 with a metal, sliding sunroof. The owner said this was a factory option here when he bought the car. It looks good. Rolf

Safety Concern?
This thread is very important, it is correct. Concerning automatic: I once had a 280ZX with automatic trans. On a rainy day I entered the bended entrance to a highway. I saw a truck coming, not too far away. So I accelerated hard. The AT kicked down from stage 3 to 1st gear. The wheels spun and I "flew"sideways into the highway. Okay, when I lifted my right food the AT shifted up to the 3rd gear and the car stabilized itself but didn't accelerate enaugh. So the truck gave me a light push, nothing really serious, but nevertheless a hard lesson. The next day I sold the AT and got a new MT. That's the car we still have, see in my gallery "Partenen". Since then I never bought an Automatic again. Being in the US the rental cars I had all had AT. The only advantage to me was that I could get used to "left foot braking", good for rallying! Rolf

Interior Ergonomics
Here in Germany the few imported 240Zs had the factory comp.close ratio gearbox, the 3,9:1 diff. and 195/70-14 tires on alloy rims. Same was to all 260Z 2+2. My '82 280ZX 2+2 came with the factory comp. wide ratio gearbox and the 3,7 R2oo and 205/70-14. No extra orders! in www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/ you can see the speed calculation for these sets.

240Z Competition Parts Catalogue
Afildes, try to get the FIA Homologation papers for the H(L)S 30 and H®S 30 from your national motorsports authority or the japanese motorsports authorities or from NISSAN directly. I think anywhere here in the Rallye&Racing forum you can find the Homologation Nr. you have to look for. There the 44 Mikuni is homologated for Group 4 only, as Alan mentioned. Electronic ignition is not allowed in group 3 (may be Lumitron), oil cooling also only in Group 4. For FIA events you should also look into App. K of the FIA rules, esp. concerning ignition in your case. Rolf

Interior Ergonomics
Alan, my first 260Z 2+2 had the foot rest and I didn't order it as an extra. I'm not shure, but I think all german Zs had it. Rolf

Bought a 240z today, Perth WA.
The km-Tacho (Speedo) is from a 260, the other is mph from my '72 240. There are some differences in wiring and fixing.

Painting Advice
Clean the compartment totally and also use silikon solving. Get rid of all rust as good as you can and use rust protection. All oil sparkles and dirt has to be off. I than painted the compartment with silver Hammerite colour (hammered-look) with different fine (smaller, bigger, bended) brushs, no spray. See the result in my "gallery". Good luck! Rolf

Interior Ergonomics
Alan, I would prefer to have it on the left side of the tunnel, a bit backwards to the shifter and easy to pull in a snowy u-turn. Rolf
