This may or may not be a Scarab, however the engine is in the JTR setback position and that is a JTR (Jags That Run) hood latch. This may be a JTR makeover, but it is still a nice V8 Z from the pictures.

Are you doing the swap yourself ? Do you have the tools to do the engine install. Do you have salvage yard or pic-n-pull connections? There only two places I have seen engine/tranny installs or swaps done for less than $6k, and thats the Grassroots challenge and a friend on mine who did it for about $8k, but he has a lift, some dragracing and hot-rod connections and everything Craftsman tools make. I have spent about $14k on my LS1 swap and that does not include tools (some you can rent), and I still need brakes, tires/wheels and paint. Good luck if you can make it happen. Google below get you started. Rebello Racing - Can build you a nice stroker z motor. Jags that Run - Gen 1 and LT1 small block swap- supply parts for LS swaps. Johns Car, Inc. LS Swap parts, motor mounts, tranny mounts and accessories. Also LT1 parts. Mckinney Motorsports -RB and SR20 engine swaps http://www.vildinimotorsport.com/ -SR20 experts and work on other cars
  3. That looks real good !!!! Did you do any sanding or prepping outside of removing the panels ? My car is street/track car, so I may have to consider Maaco.

Added note, Zguitar is correct 3.5 inches to 4.5 inches is the max on a non-coilover suspension. Wheel width greater than 7 inches, depending on the height of your car you will need flares or want flares because the tires stick out so far. Keep in mind also, Zs are finicky upfront with a lot of negative backspace and wide wheels. You expose yourself to other weak or strong areas of the suspension geometry.

71datsunsZ, The 15 x 7 with a bolt pattern of 4 x 4.5 with a 0mm offset will fit, if the backspace is 4 inches. The best tire size is 225/50-15 at all four corners. That is a nice looking wheel, however if you are autocrossing are doing any kind of racing the wheel is kind of heavy. For daily driver you will be fine. Go to 1010tires.com and click on tech, they have a good tire height/width calculator. Also, go to rsracing.com, go to tech wheel and you see how the width and backspace works. The wheel height is reduced and your tach and speedo will be off, IMO wider tires, tucked under a Z is sweet:)

zman525, You can make the mounts and fabricate yourself, however as mention get the JTR manual and go over to hybridz.org. 98% of all questions will be answered in a search. The other 2% will be your skills and how much money you want to spend. Quick answers: 1. Transmissions: 700r4, 200r4 (bowtieoverdrives.com) World class T5 only good to 300-350hp/tq Tremec T56 from GM f-body there are two models- Centerforce flywheel-clutch/ -Mccleod also has set-ups. Weir Hot rods makes modular bellhousing kit for both early and late model T56 TKO 500 and TK0 600 -550\650 TQ -5 speeds--These transmissions work well with the R200 -3.54 gearing - (25-26 inch tall tire) 2. Depending on horsepower look at converting halfshafts to CV. go here www.modern-motorsports.com. Ross C. is a great guy and knows Z's and ZX, also here: www.magshooterz.com/v8240z, good v8 information. 3. Z unibody integrity: Rollbar, strut bars and go here for more thorough drivetrain info: www.alteredz.com. Pete Paraska's one the best V8 z and z sites for information. 4. Brakes -suspension: Modern-motorsports or www.arizonazcar.com Generation 1 smallblock (carburetor) and Lt1 go here: http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Datsun_Z_V-8.html Motorsport Auto (MSA) sells kit also allows usage of full length headers-fabrication needed. Generation 3 (Ls1) go here: http://www.brokenkitty.com/zcar/zcar.htm Also, JTR sells LS1 bits and pieces as well. I am in the middle of my V8 swap on a 1977 280z, so I can attest to all this information being on hybridz.
  9. zeewhiz, From my research ( I have 1977 with no rear bumper) there are no rear kits for shaved bumpers. Motorsport Auto sells the rear bumper/valence that it is part of a body kit. If you are going for the no bumper smooth look, you would have to weld in some steel were the bumper shocks come through and other holes. A buddy mine just took a whole complete piece of steel and replaced from the rear light panel down. Some body filler, sanding and some good metal prepping and your done. Be careful with the heat settings as you are welding in panels -Z body sensitive to heat !!!!!
